Grant Awards
Jayme’s Fund for Social Justice is growing!Due to your generosity, Jayme’s well articulatedpassions are alive and making a positive difference in the lives of others!
While we are fundraising and supporting initiatives that promote tolerance, educationand human rights….we are also bringingmusic and cultural events to the areaand encouraging young people to getinvolved in community service.
Jayme garnered numerous awards andhonors, but she was humble and uncom-fortable with personal recognition. That iswhy I was surprised by what she told to meduring our flight to Washington, D.C., inFebruary of 2002 for the weeklong Mediaand Democracy Program in which she participated. She was pondering what shewould do with her life. With a deliberate toneand beaming smile, she turned to me andannounced, “Mom, I’ve decided that I’m going
to be famous, but I don’t want my face to be famous, just my name. I want to make a difference in the world!” She concluded thatshe could best accomplish her goals throughjournalism, writing books, law, and teaching.
Jayme commanded ourattention to many socialconcerns and engaged us in lively, informative
discussions on education, human rights, diversity, disenfranchised youth, tolerance, the arts andculture. Her vision of empowering people totake action is rooted in the Fund’s mission andthese values will forever guide our purpose.
Many of you have shared how Jayme touchedyour lives in so many special ways. Theseheartfelt stories continue to inspire me togrow the Fund to be far-reaching andmeaningful. I remain deeply touched andhonored by the commitment of theAdvisory Board and so many otherswho have assisted in the developmentof the Fund.
Jayme’s name will surely be wellknown… maybe even famous…through the charitable work ofJayme’s Fund for Social Justice.
