■ Use of generic prescription drugs has saved theUS healthcare system more than $US1 trillion over thepast 10 years, with savings currently running at$0.5 billion per day, according an independent studyundertaken by the IMS Institute for HealthcareInformatics for the Generic Pharmaceutical Association(GPhA). Ralph G. Neas, President and CEO of theGPhA, described the findings of the Generic DrugSavings study as "remarkable" and a testament to thegeneric industry’s accomplishments over the pastdecade. He went on to say that the study shows that"generic and biosimilar utilisation are the best placesto go for the ‘offsets’ that everyone will be desperatelyseeking" in the coming year.The Generic Pharmaceutical Association.
