PharmacoEconomics & Outcomes News 660 - 18 Aug 2012 Use of generic prescription drugs has saved the US healthcare system more than $US1 trillion over the past 10 years, with savings currently running at $0.5 billion per day, according an independent study undertaken by the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics for the Generic Pharmaceutical Association (GPhA). Ralph G. Neas, President and CEO of the GPhA, described the findings of the Generic Drug Savings study as "remarkable" and a testament to the generic industry’s accomplishments over the past decade. He went on to say that the study shows that "generic and biosimilar utilisation are the best places to go for the ‘offsets’ that everyone will be desperately seeking" in the coming year.
