Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007 offers My Site,

a personal site that pulls together summary views of

personal information and provides full control over

information "for me, by me, and about me." Role-Based

Templates for SharePoint My Sites are custom templates

designed for Office SharePoint Server 2007 and tailored to

address the unique needs and requirements of specific

roles. They are envisioned as extensions to the standard

My Site functionality, providing a personal portal and

dashboard data relevant to your role.

Role-Based Templates for SharePoint My Sites can provide enhanced business insight and help drive company-

wide productivity through a common interface to access priority information from varied sources and systems

related to job roles, individual responsibilities, and surrounding processes. The templates display information in

a way that is familiar and easy, and is built around the way people in the company work, enabling business

decision-making with greater confidence.

Available Role-Based My Site TemplatesMicrosoft has developed seven role-based My Site templates for Office SharePoint Server 2007 that can be

downloaded at no extra charge. Each template was designed with a specific job role in mind and provides a

base of functionality that can be customized to meet individual needs.

Administrative AssistantAssists the administrative assistant with managing the day-to-day office activities. The template displays a company events, details of requisitions and assets, a summary of payment details for office items and supplies, lists of available company facilities, and details about issues related to office management.

Controller-Financial AnalystHelps controllers and financial analysts automate the process of analyzing financial data and information. The template assists in tracking top performing products and opportunities at different geography levels, and provides a graphical view of product sales and revenue.

Customer Service ManagerHelps customer service managers streamline the process of monitoring team performance. The template assists in reviewing order status, displays key performance indicators for customer satisfaction and vendor performance, and provides a graphical view showing call distribution, service performance, operation costs and quality indicators.

HR ManagerHelps HR managers keep track of employee composition and distribution within the organization. The template provides information on the status of performance reviews, displays details of employee training, shows attrition rates at the organization and business unit level, and lists job openings.

IT ManagerFocuses on the IT manager in a maintenance division handling location support. The template helps oversee the support services provided by the team of IT engineers for SLA adherence, coordinate with the team for backups and updates, and review incident calls and escalations being logged in the help desk.

Marketing ManagerAssists the marketing manager with streamlining the process of lead inquiries and conversions. The template helps with budget planning for marketing activities, planning activities for certain initiatives, planning for collateral, implementing a wide range of promotions for products, and tracking metrics related to activities.

Sales Account ManagerHelps sales account managers streamline the process of analyzing sales and opportunity information for their overall decision making. The template assists in customer account tracking against a set of performance metrics and provides a graphical view of the geographical distribution of product sales and opportunities.

solutions that integrate with important IT investments.

The templates are built using existing out-of-the-box

SharePoint Web parts, and are flexible, providing a starting

point for custom development. They come with a sample SQL

Server™ 2005 database, a BDC application file and a SQL

Server 2005 Analysis Services (SSAS) cube to show sample

data. This datasheet describes the web parts and functionality

Microsoft used when designing the templates. The role-based

My Site template Setup Guide explains in detail how to

configure them for your own data.

Common Role-Based My Site Template FeaturesThere are a number of different features that make up the Role-Based Templates for SharePoint My Sites, all

contributing to a personal portal that helps the end-user accomplish their day-to-day tasks efficiently. Below is

a description of features common to each of the role-based templates:

ReportingBusiness information and data from LOB systems

Business Data Catalog (BDC) application XML file is uploaded to the Shared Services Provider (SSP) to

facilitate a seamless connection to backend systems such as SQL Server, SAP and Seibel. Associations

between entities defined in the application file are displayed through Business Data Catalog List web parts

and Business Data Catalog Related List web parts.

Business IntelligenceKey Performance Indicators (KPIs)

KPIs are defined on data in SharePoint lists, Excel spreadsheets or the SSAS cube through KPI web parts.

When KPIs are displayed from the SSAS cube, the SSAS Filter web part is configured to dimension attributes

or hierarchies in the cube and can be connected to the KPI web parts for filtering.

Dashboards

Connections between Office Excel 2007 workbooks and SQL Server 2005 database or the SQL Server

Analysis Services (SSAS) cube are established through Office Database Connection (.odc) files to create

pivot tables and charts of the data. Workbooks containing pivot tables, charts and named ranges are

published in Excel Services to a document library and then rendered in the browser through an Excel Web

Access web part. Office Database Connections are created in Office Excel 2007.

CollaborationEmails, Appointments and Tasks; SharePoint User Tasks

View emails, appointments and tasks through My Inbox, My Calendar and My Tasks web parts, respectively.

The web parts need to be configured to communicate with the Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. A

consolidated view of tasks assigned in SharePoint to users is displayed in the User Tasks web part.

List and Library Items from Outlook

Office SharePoint Server 2007 lists and libraries can be connected to Microsoft Office Outlook® 2007 to

view and update lists and libraries from Outlook. Calendar lists from SharePoint can be connected to Office

Outlook 2007 and compared against the user’s personal calendar.

Presence Management

Send instant messages, schedule meetings, and check the availability of team members with the presence

icon. Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 should be installed to use this feature.

Business Process Management

Workflow

Business process management can be achieved through Microsoft Office InfoPath® 2007 forms and

workflows. Microsoft Office Forms Server 2007 enables InfoPath forms to be rendered in the browser.

Office SharePoint Server 2007 comes with a set of workflows that can be configured by the site

administrator. Custom workflows can be developed with Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 or

Microsoft Visual Studio® 2005.

Project ManagementA project list shows items assigned to the user and can be tracked with a Gantt chart view of the data.

PersonalizationPersonalized User Experience through Custom Views in Lists and Libraries

Custom views are created in lists and libraries to render a personalized user experience where items and

documents created only by the end user will be visible. List View web parts are configured to custom views.

Branding

Office SharePoint Server 2007 user interface architecture is based on the master page feature in ASP.NET

2.0. The layout of the page is set by the master page and the theme is controlled by cascading style sheets

used in the master page. Custom logos and banners are applied via the master page.

Custom logo, banner and theme can be applied to the site template.
