Oakland Infrastructure Working Group ‐ The Oakland Mayor’s Office invited AC Transit to serve on the Mayor’s Infrastructure Working Group to help the City develop new principles and priorities for sound capital infrastructure investments. The Working Group stems from the successful passage of the Infrastructure and Affordable Housing Bond (Measure KK) with 82.4% Yes votes. The bond presents Oakland with an opportunity and a responsibility to reinvest in vital infrastructure. As the City works to propose its first bond issuance and develop Oakland’s Fiscal Year 2018‐20 Budget & Capital Improvement Program, there is a critical need to develop the equity, resiliency, and mobility metrics required in the bond ordinance. The application of these historically important new metrics will ensure that capital investments are smart and equitable, and carry Oakland toward a collective vision of an inclusive, resilient and thriving city.
The Working Group kick‐off meeting took place on January 19th. Based on stakeholder feedback at that meeting, Oakland will present the proposed CIP methodologies on February 9th, followed by a presentation of final methodologies on February 23rd to recommend to City Council. AC Planning Staff will cover the entire process and attend all workshop meetings.
MTC Shared Use Mobility Workshops – On January 27th, AC Transit Planning Staff attended MTC’s Shared Use Mobility Workshop, which is part of a series of three workshops on transportation Innovation. The purpose of this meeting was to kick‐off the workshop series and receive presentations on how public transportation agencies are partnering with with Shared Use Mobility Providers. In addition, MTC laid out their intentions to study the opportunities and tradeoffs associated with technology innovation in transportation, including Shared Use Mobility and Connected/Automated Vehicles. Overall, while there are opportunities to partner with the Transportation Network Companies, there are many questions and concerns over their impact on public transit, as expressed by workshop participants. The next workshop will cover Connected/Automated Vehicles, while the final workshop will be a Special MTC Commission Meeting on Shared Use Mobility, including a panel of vendors, experts and public sector staff for a joint discussion. This meeting will occur in March or April of this year.

This initial “soft opening” was established to provide for a limited number of buses on four routes to work out any technical issues prior to additional buses being added to the facility during the March sign up. The rollout was preceded by a very successful grand opening event that occurred on Friday, January 27.
