WHAT IS AN ENGINEERED FLOOR?

• An engineered floor is simply a floor board made of more than one piece of timber. The multi-

plywood layers use up to 12 layers of thinly cut hardwood and softwood plantation timbers,

placed and glued in multiple directions to increase the strength and stability of the top layer

of solid timber.

• By utilising fast growing softwood plantation timbers in the base it minimises the old

technology requirement of using slow growing timber in all layers – this is a far more

environmentally advanced selection that still offers the same strength and stability in the

board and beauty of the top layer. Engineered timber flooring technology has developed

greatly over the past 25 years and has dramatically improved the quality of flooring products

in that time.

ENGINEERED FLOORS - PROS OVER SOLID FLOORS

• Far greater stability means less floor failures than with solid floors.

• Wider board widths are achievable with the inherent stability of a multi-plywood base.

• Has a thicker ‘wear’ layer and can be refinished without the need to sand.

• Available in a range of pre-finished, hard to achieve colours.

• Far lower VOC emissions once installed compared with on-site finishing.

• Reduced installation time due to pre-finished product.

• Far more efficient use of slow-growing top layer timbers (Oak, Teak and Walnut, etc.) than

solid floors.

• Reduced waste factors - with engineered floors there is usually a 6% waste factor compared

with 10% to 15% waste with a solid floor installation.

• Can be secret-nailed or just glued down, unlike solid boards which, if over 90mm wide,

require top-nailing.

• Can be used in conjunction with in-slab and other sub-floor heating systems.

WHAT IS LAMINATE FLOORING?

• CFA 8mm and 12mm iLaminate flooring utilises high-density fibre (HDF) core board and the

top layer has a protective scratch resistant layer, giving your laminate floors the highest level

of protection against everyday living. iLaminate floors are easy for the DIY handyman and fast

laying for installers, saving you time and money. The latest colourfast technology also gives

the flooring protection from the harsh Australian sun.

• CFA Vaucluse Rigid Plank is the latest in new generation flooring technology. It uses the latest

in colourfast technology and deep embossing to give you a natural timber look. It also uses

the latest acoustic backing for excellent sound absorption.

plywood and does not need to be nailed or glued to the subfloor.

• FLOATING LAMINATE - A floating laminate floor is made up of wooden board, a wood ‘image’

and a wear layer, and does not need to be nailed or glued to the subfloor.

• DIRECT STICK ENGINEERED - A direct stick engineered floor is made up of layers of

hardwood and plywood that are glued down directly to a subfloor.

• HERRINGBONE/CHEVRON - please inquire for an installation

quote. Herringbone and Chevron are two different laying

DISCLAIMER

Please understand that approximately 30% of orders come in random short lengths and that our

timber is supplied as ABCD grade generally. Timber is a natural product. Colours can and may

vary from images shown from actual samples. Boards will vary across every floor in colour, tone

and knot frequency. It is this variation that gives timber its natural beauty and appeal.
