    Metal Work was set up in 1967 for theproduction of push-in fittings for compressedair systems.

    The company gradually extended itsproduction and sales structure to become aleader in pneumatic systems for automation.

    Now the production unit in Concesio has astaff of about 350, while the national andinternational sales organisation staff numberaround 450.

    In 1992 Metal Work has obtained the ISO9001 certification.To the quality managment one, in 2000 wehave add the one related to the enviromentalmanagment according the ISO 14001.To these METAL WORK S.p.A. applied theOHSAS 18001 standard in 2007 to guaranteea Management System of Occupational Safetyand Health.

    All the certifications above mentioned havebeen released by the German certificationbody DEKRA ITS, accredited by TGA

    Products are distributed through 38 branchesin Italy and abroad, which offer an efficientcapillary before- and after-sales service.

    The product quality and an efficient salesorganisation are the basis on whichMetal Work firmly stands and enable thecompany to meet all possible requirementsin pneumatic systems for automation.

  • Quality in design, production and distribution

    Total quality

    Metal Work is a fully integrated manufacturingcompany. This system guarantees the customer a fullymonitored production process and a consistentlytop quality product.

    Process engineering and product engineering cometogether in the constant quest for perfection.

    Virtually all the products are manufactured at thecompany's own production site allowing the companyto monitor the entire process from the selection ofraw materials to final assembly, thus cutting wastageand lead times.

    Production data and test results undergo criticalanalysis to enable the company to upgrade theproducts and the manufacturing process.Company-wide quality control is a permanentfeature at Metal Work.

    Metal Work obtained ISO 9001 certification in 1992 and ISO14001 certification in 2000, and OHSAS 18001 certificationin 2007, ample proof of our way of working and dailymission. Particular care is taken at all levels, from design toenergy saving, and we can safely state that, compared withconventional products, the electrical power required tooperate our valves has been cut by 75% over the last fewyears.

    Certification covers not only the holding company but also theother companies in the Group, allowing both our products andour philosophy to gain world-wide recognition.

    All Metal Work products meet EC and other standardsincluding electromagnetic compatibility (EMC certificate).

    Metal Work engineers are on ISO, UNI and ASSOFLUIDcommittees as product standardisation is always a guaranteeof product quality.

    The product is not Metal Work's only strong point.Great care is taken over customer service, with theaim of providing the best possible solution for aspecific requirement within the allotted time and withthe utmost safety.

    The Metal Work or P Service sales personnel workin close co-operation with the customer, providing thenecessary backup to solve any technical problems,and search for new materials or information.

    Metal Work invests heavily in providing the customerswith the necessary training.

    Our range includes all types of special productssuitable for use in a wide variety of applications.

  • COMPACT CYLINDERS SERIES CMPC 3280 TWO-FLAT

    This version is used to keep at an angle the objects fixedonto the piston rod and to apply torques within the specifiedlimits.The piston rod in two-flat cylinders has two opposinglongitudinal surfaces and is made entirely of stainless steel.The front head of the cylinder includes a sintered bronzebush that engages the piston rod and prevents it fromrotating.A special polyurethane gasket guarantees air-tightness anddirt removal.This technical solution is more airtight and reliable thansquare or hexagonal piston rods.These compact cylinders come in the following versions: with or without a magnet dual-acting, single piston rod dual-acting, through piston rod one piston rod is

    two-flat, and the other is cylindrical fixing centre distances compatible with ,ISO 15552

    ( former ISO 6431), or with French standardNFE 49-004-1 and 2 (UNITOP).

    The special profile and the fact that the external heads arescrewed onto the liner give an excellent guide. Numerousfixing options are available thanks to wide range of anchorpoints.Retractable magnetic limit switches can be mounted in slotsin the cylinder to measure the position.

    With this type of cylinder, thevalves (D) can be mounteddirectly using the retractingsensor slot, without requiringthe use of intermediate brackets.This can be done using thespecial plates (A) which comewith both M3 and M4 threads,and screws (B) of the size, typeand quantity shown in the tablebelow.The plates are suppliedcomplete with 2 stud pins, oneM3 and one M4 (C).After the valve centre distanceand the position of the valvehave been determined, theplates can be secured to thecylinder. A position memorywill be created to facilitatesubsequent maintenance on thevalve.

  • INTEGRATED HYDRAULIC BRAKE

    The integrated hydraulic brake is comprised of a pneumaticcylinder that acts as an actuator and an oleo-dynamiccircuit that acts as a brake.The dimensions of the pneumatic cylinder (bore 63) complywith ISO 15552.The hydraulic circuit is comprised of a brake fluid tank andone or two flow regulation pins. It can mount one or more(slow-fast) SKIP or STOP valves that are normally open(NO) or normally closed (NC), for the piston rod extensionand retraction.The basic feature of this device is that the driving force andthe braking force are coaxial, so they do not generateundesired bending moments on the piston rod and theexternal structures connected to it. Due to its conception,this brake is particularly compact and has reduceddimensions compared to BRK external hydraulic brakes.After a certain operating time, the brake fluid tank mustbe topped up with oil. This needs doing when the oil levelreaches the minimum mark on the rod. With the pistonrod right out, the minimum level mark must not projectless than 8-10 mm from the cap.Always use Comlube DEXRON ATF hydraulic oil or anothercompatible product. During the first operating cycles, excessoil is expelled through a hole in the tank.

    TECHNICAL DATA

    The HDM+PROFIBUS system has been designed in such a way that thepneumatic input terminal contains all the electronics, signals and connectors.It is a very compact and sturdy system where everything is housed in athick casing aluminium to protect the delicate components against impact.The valves and accessories are HDM standard, which means that youonly need to replace the input terminal to convert the valve island withmultiple connector into an PROFIBUS island. All the advantages of theHDM system can be exploited: the possibility of mounting valves ofdifferent size, with fittings for pipes 4, 6 or 8; the insertion of intermediatemodules with separate power supply or outlets; aluminium valves withchemical nickel plating enclosed in a protective casing in reinforcedtechnopolymer, with an index of protection IP65.The arrangement of the functions continues the traditional optimisationof the HDM: the user interface of the valves and bus all on one side, sothat the fitter and service engineer have everything within easy reach: allcompressed air connections are on the other side, and the electricalconnectors and selectors are at the end of the island.It is advisable to earth the system to prevent electrical or electrostaticdischarge from damaging the electronic circuit.

    An advanced field bus system interfacing with the Multimachworld.B&R has developed a new standard for automation, calledFORMULA X.For further details about features, functions and qualitiesof this system, reference must be made to the B&Rdocumentation, also available on the web sitewww.br-automation.comAn overview is given below.The X-system is a system handling analogue and digitalinputs and outputs for local or remote use, which B&Rdefines as decentralised backplane.Different types of modules are available. We present thosedesigned for connection with Multimach and HDM valveislands. We only indicate the B&Rs code root, since eachtype of module comes in different variants, that differ bynumber of signals handled, that can be 8, 16 or 24, andby type of signal, that can be input, output or input/outputindifferently. Common to all the modules is the presenceof 4 connections: a signal input, a signal output for thefollowing modules, a power input (24V DC), a power outputfor the following modules.

    These are modules with protection IP67, receiving a signalaccording to one of the DP Profibus, CAN open, DeviceNet, Ethernet Powerlink protocols (the module code differsobviously according to the protocol being controlled).   • PADLOCKABLEREGULATOR

    The padlockable regulator has a pin with a hole in it thatprojects from the top of the knob. When the knob is in thepush-lock position, the padlock can be inserted in the hole,preventing the knob from being operated. A padlock andtwo keys are supplied with the regulator.The new Skillair regulator uses a rolling diaphragm whichgives a much better performance than the flat version.Advantages of this system: Increased stroke, increased valve opening and hencehigher flow rate. Decreased dynamic and inrush friction; prompter, moresensitive operation. Reduced working stress and hence longer life allowingthe use of thinner diaphragms (0.45 mm versus 1.5 mmfor a flat one) which increases regulator sensitivity andprompt action. Increased accuracy in maintaining the set pressure withboth variable flow rates and different feed pressures. Downstream overpressures relieved quickly.
