DECEMBER 2018 – An assessment is conducted to provide recommendations for the mainstreaming of gender considerations into the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) funding proposal submitted to the Green Climate Fund (GCF). JULY 2019 – Gender equality actors are heard during the development of a draft decree for the creation of a National Commission to Combat Climate Change. MARCH 2020 – The National Gender and Climate Change Strategy 2020–2024 identifies a common vision: “By 2030, all actions to combat climate change in Côte d'Ivoire will consider issues related to gender equality and social inclusion.” AUGUST 2020 – The Ministry of Environment establishes a National Gender and Climate Change Platform to promote networking among the relevant stakeholders. OCTOBER 2020 – A draft climate change law strengthens the mandate of the National Gender and Climate Change Strategy. FEBRUARY 2019 – The GCF approves Côte d’Ivoire’s funding proposal for the development of its NAP process from 2019 to 2022. JANUARY AND JULY 2020 – Two national gender advisors are made available to assist the Ministry of the Environment. JULY 2020 – The Ministry of Women launches a review of the National Gender Policy Document, in particular to ensure the incorporation of issues related to climate change. SEPTEMBER 2020 – A capacity-building plan for national actors on the link between climate change and gender begins to be implemented. DECEMBER 2020 – Three methodological guides promote the use of a standardized approach to assessing the vulnerability of priority sectors with respect to climate change, while taking gender equality into account. DECEMBER 2020 – The revision of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) takes gender into account as a cross-cutting theme in priority sectors. Gender Mainstreaming in Climate Change Action in Côte d’Ivoire Key milestones from 2018 to 2020 From 2018 to 2020, the Government of Côte d'Ivoire made substantial progress in mainstreaming gender in climate action. These milestones have benefited the areas of analysis, political and legal frameworks, institutional arrangements, financing, capacity building, and tools to support decision making.
