Geberit HDPE is manufactured for discharging wastewater from greasy wastes

(restaurants etc), trade waste (factories), laboratory waste, sanitary and stormwater.

“HDPE” stands for “High Density Polyethylene”. All pipes & fittings are made with

plain ends, and are joined by Fusion Welding, either Butt-Welding or Electrofusion.

Mechanical joints are also available. The product size range is from 50mm O.D.

(outside dimension) to 315mm O.D. pipe lengths are 5 metres.

Geberit HDPE is mainly used for Commercial and Industrial type applications in water discharge, where Temperature, Chemicals, Grease or Abrasion may effect other types of materials.

This product can be installed in accordance with AS 3500. For Drainage, Waste and Vent (DWV).

bEnEFItS

HDPE has established itself as an economic alternative to traditional metal products such as cast Iron, copper, 70/30 brass and Stainless Steel. It can also replace Eathenware or PVc in ground where unstable ground or tree roots threaten to disrupt the integrity of the system.

Geberit HDPE pipes and fittings are an economical alternative to

Earthenware, Copper, Brass, Cast Iron and Stainless steel pipes in gravity drainage systems. Being lightweight they can be easily pre-fabricated for stack work as well as domestic and multi-story applications.

Geberit HDPE has a higher abrasion resistance than metal which gives

it the edge over other materials in drainage applications where abrasion effects the life of the pipework.

Geberit HDPE is extremely resistant to chemicals and solvents. It also

resists pH levels from 0 to 14 making it the ideal material for use in Trade Waste, Greasy Waste, DWV, Stormwater, Laboratory or Industrial Drainage applications.

Geberit HDPE pipes are stress relieved so tensions created during

manufacturing are minimised making them dimensionally stable and more reliable.

Geberit HDPE is temperature resistant and can be used in gravity

drainage systems for discharge temperatures up to 80° C (short cycles up to 100°C).

Geberit HDPE is low maintenance: - smooth bore and the water

repelling properties minimises deposits in the pipe.

- low heat loss through the pipe wall prevents grease and fat from solidifying.

Geberit HDPE is impact resistant and flexible without cracking or

breaking. This material quality makes it the perfect material for inground drainage systems that also resist tree root penetration and aggressive soil conditions (pH levels 0-14).

Geberit HDPE pipes and fittings are uV stabilised, and suitable for

above ground installations.

Geberit HDPE comes in a wide range of pipes and fittings from

50mm OD to 315mm OD.

1 trench

The trench is to be dug as narrow as possible – but not narrower than the pipe diameter +40cm. The floor of the trench must be level and free from rocks and loose clumps. Correct elevation and slope are also important.

2 b = bedding

Under normal soil conditions the trench is provided with a bedding layer of round gravel (grading up to 30mm) or of broken material (grading up to 10mm) of a thickness of approximately 100mm. The bedding layer must be compacted and tampered. In certain cases it will be necessary to reinforce the ground.

3 u = underpinning

After the pipe has been laid, recesses are to be provided for sockets and flanges so that the pipe is supported along its entire length. The underpinning is to be done with a tamping post or the like. It must be done very carefully. If several pipes are laid, make sure that the lowest one is fully covered before the one above is placed. The pipe must lay flat, and it must be installed with the correct slope.

4 c = consolidation layer

The material is to be filled in layers of approx. 100mm thickness. Tamping can be done by stamping with the feet, or with a special tool. The purpose of this material is to help prevent the pipe form deforming, so that it must be compacted well on both sides at the same time.

GEnEraL

Geberit “HDPE” can be used successfully installed in-ground, in concrete (in-situ) and above ground also known as “suspended”. These three installation methods are most common with Geberit HDPE Pipe.

Geberit Pipe and Fittings can be used inground.

Prefabricated or conventional installation. Pipeline embedded in concrete. Underground drainage pipes.

rigid Installation

The rigid fixings must be stronger than the possible expansion or contraction forces of the HDPE pipe.

Geberit pipes can be installed rigidly with relatively low effort, for which the following elements are required:

use Butt Welding is the easiest jointing method, providing the many advantageous benefits of prefabrication; HDPE needs no other component in order to welded.

It can be used in all circumstances where prefabrication is used on site or in the workshop.

The essential conditions for a perfect weld are: • Cleanlinessoftheweldingplateandthepartswhicharetobewelded. • Acorrectweldingplatetemperature. • Thecorrectpressureforjointingthepartswhicharetobewelded. • Thepartstobeweldedmustbecutsquare90°.

Butt-welding takes up little space. The edge of the weld does not obstruct the pipe, leaving its internal cross-section virtually unchanged. Even quite complicated distribution parts can be assembled in a small space, without wastage of material, because lengths of pipe or elbow sections can be easily reused through butt-welding.

Place pipe parts in the tension plates and fix them in a line.

use On-site welding, conversion, additional installations, repairs. The small outside diameter provides a great advantage.

Conventional assembly, on the nesting principle, made for easy use. The joint obtained is simple, quick and reliable.

The heating and melting zone is divided into two fields, as there are no electrical resistances in the centre of the sleeve. This provides a very satisfactory safety factor.

Also the ends of the pipes are not heated, the zones remain effectively cold, and provide further reinforcement, thus cancelling out shrinkage of the pipe.

The pressure required for welding is obtained from the shrinking effect of the sleeve when it is heated, and is evenly distributed over the entire weld. This shrinkage has a compensating effect on pipe diameter measurement tolerances.

The electrical resistance wires will not corrode. Once the weld has been made they are entirely covered by PE.

The use of original Geberit equipment, especially tempered Geberit HDPE, pipes, are recommended for correct welding.

Electrical sleeves can be made to slide by removing the central stop ring, thus making system conversion and repair work easier. (see below)

An expansion socket is recommended between anchor brackets, particularly on installations assembled with rigid joints and where excessive thermal movement is anticipated. At least one expansion joint must be provided on vertical stacks running from floor to floor, long collector pipelines and before connecting to the buried drain pipework.

Different conditions apply for underground installations.

Installation

Can be used either vertically or horizontally. One advantage is the depth of the sleeve which makes the assembly of downpipes and mains easier, allowing both vertical and horizontal corrections (e.g. in level, and in the precise positioning of the direction of branches and elbows.)

A firm anchor bracket must always be located behind the expansion socket to avoid any movement of the socket in the event of expansion or contraction.

The special shape of the seal allows the pipe slide within the socket during expansion and contraction, ensuring that the connection remains perfectly watertight even under heavy hydraulic load.

Horizontal assembly (e.g. at 20°C)

The following conditions are important to ensure perfect and easy assembly of the sleeves: 1. Chamfering the inserted pipe end to approximately 15°. 2. Check the scale on the outer surface of the expansion socket for insertion depth. 3. Mark the correct insertion depth on the pipe. 4. Lubricate the pipe end well with soft soap, silicone or Vaseline. N.B. do not use oil or grease which can damage the rubber seal.

A special expansion socket with stainless steel protection for the rubber seal can be used for heavy duty industrial and laboratory applications.
