Weir wins £4.4mn deal in Kazakhstan
GE to pay US$3.3bn for Lufkin Industries
A £4.4 million process equipment
contract for the Bozshakol copper
mine sulphide plant in northern
Kazakhstan has gone to Weir
Minerals.
The contract covers a wide range
of process and tailings pumps, as
well as Warman 650 MCR pump
units along with a complete
replacement wet-end assembly.
The pumps will be delivered by
Weir Minerals Europe, assisted by
Weir Minerals Australia’s projects
team. Bozshakol is Kazakhstan’s
biggest single-mine development
both in value and volume terms.
The project, which is being
developed by Kazakhmys PLC, is
expected to output an average of
75 000 tonnes of copper
concentrate per annum across its
40-year lifespan, with production
scheduled to begin in 2015.

GE is buying artifi cial lift
technology specialist Lufkin
Industries Inc in a deal valued
at US$3.3 billion.
Lufkin will broaden GE Oil & Gas’s
artifi cial lift capabilities beyond
electric submersible pumps (ESPs)
to include rod lift, gas lift, plunger
lift, hydraulic lift and progressive
cavity pumps as well as a range of
well automation and production
optimization controls and software.

Flowserve expands Spanish testing facility
New CEO for Sulzer PumpsFlowserve Corp has completed an
upgrade of its open loop test
bench at its manufacturing and
testing facility in Coslada, Spain.
The Flowserve investment is
designed to meet increased
customer needs for larger cooling
water pumps and expanded testing
capabilities. Flowserve customers
in Europe, the Middle East and Asia
can now obtain actual site condition
tests together with run-out fl ow veri-
fi cation at the point of manufacture.

Scot Smith has been appointed
president of Sulzer Pumps.
Smith, 50, a US citizen, served as
managing director of Weir Minerals
from 2001 to 2012. Before joining
Weir he spent almost 20 years in
the automotive industry.
Kim Jackson, Sulzer Pumps’
president since 2007, has left the
company to pursue other
opportunities. The Sulzer board
and executive committee thanked
Jackson for his part in growing
Sulzer Pumps organically, for his
contributions to the division’s
acquisitions and for broadening
the global presence of the
business.

Allweiler supplies propeller pumps to Saudi Arabia
KSB opens €15mn factory in BrazilKSB has offi cially opened a new
manufacturing plant in Jundiaí,
Brazil, 50 km north of São Paulo.
The €15 million facility, designed to
produce standard pumps and valves,
will initially manufacture ball, gate
and globe valves. Once valve produc-
tion is up and running, the company
will start supplying standard
pumps from the new location.
The new 100 000 sq m factory will
have an initial workforce of 123.
KSB has had a manufacturing pres-
ence in Brazil since 1954. With a
Brazilian workforce of 933, the
company already produces pumps
in Várzea Paulista in the state of
São Paulo, while castings are made
at the company's foundry in
Americana, 80 km from Várzea
Paulista. Customers are mainly in
the chemical, petrochemical,
general industrial, water manage-
ment and the oil & gas sectors.

Allweiler is to provide fi ve
propeller pumps for a chemical
plant in Saudi Arabia.
The pumps, which are specially
designed for use during the
production of explosive mate-
rials, are valued at approximately
€900 000.
The fi ve Allweiler propeller pumps
will be used to feed chemical
reactors in one of the world’s
largest chemical-production
complexes. The reactors will be a
major component of the Sadara
chemical complex in Saudi Arabia.
