Assignment Brief:

Research, Planning and Presentation (15 marks)Produce a written analysis of one music videos using Goodwin terminology and the key media concepts;To submit storyboard sheets ;To film test footage;To present song lyrics with annotations and ideas/sketches.

Construct and Evaluate (30 marks)To produce an original 3 minute music video for an existing track of your choice.Confidence in handling technology can be demonstrated by:

1. Careful framing of shots2. Editing appropriate to the nature of the production and audience3. Evidence of consideration being given to lighting, mise-en-scene and

soundMusic video conventions could include performance, narrative, interpretation, lip-synch, animation, symmetrical framing, shot-composition, cross-cutting.

EvaluationYou must produce a 700-800 word evaluation which should reflect upon:

1. How the aims of the production have been met;2. How the music video applies appropriate codes and conventions and

uses appropriate media language;3. How the music video represents people, places or events;4. Where and when the music video would be viewed ;5. What regulations and controls might be applied to your music video and

how these have been taken into consideration (copyright, You Tube Terms of Service);

CALLING ALL MUSIC VIDEO DIRECTORS

Final Cut London is a cutting-edge creative editorial company, which services clients in the commercial, television, feature film and music video arenas. Final Cut have produced music videos for Robbie Williams, The Streets and Jay-Z. They are always on the look-out for talented up-and-coming music video directors.

They have set you a task. They want to see whether you can plan and produce an interesting, engaging and lively 3 minute music video for an established artist. They are happy for you to choose the artist; the artist can be from any genre of music. What they are really interested in is your interpretation of the track.

Your tasks are as follows:Research & Planning:Research and analyse one music videos of your choice using Andrew Goodwwin’s terminology and the key media concepts (approximately a 500 word report);Distribute and collate questionnaires – find out what elements people like in music videos, where they access music videos;Produce sketches, plans, test footage and storyboards for your music video.
