Doors close at Cuba Elementary Snows days bring about “senioritis” Katie Meade Staff Writer At the end of the 2013H2014 school year, Graves’s County Cuba Elementary will not only close its doors for the summer but for good. This past December the Graves County Board of Education met on the 19th to vote on the issue. After much consideration from the board members, the -" $# *& + Whitaker was the only one on the board who voted against the closing of the school. The reason for the closing is said to be strictly about the money, and not about the academic performance of the faculty and students. The board said the Graves County School District would save a projected $375,000 a year with the #&" ! %%&#" Superintendent of the district, commented on the closing saying, “It is a tough decision to make, I love our small schools, but I know this is the best '" '# # #% ' -"" strength of our district.” The past couple +%& " - *' talk and speculation about the closing leaving parents, teachers, and students wondering what the future would hold for the school they had come to know and love. The reactions of the students regarding the closing have varied. The current Principal of Cuba Elementary, Lora Miller said, “There has been a mix of emotions with the kids. Some are excited, some sad, and some are indifferent. I am sure as the end of the year and the beginning of next year approaches emotions will run higher.” The biggest concern of all the people involved with this decision and move is the students. At this time Cuba has a total attendance of 158 students. Next year the district plans to divide them up and send them either to Wingo or Sedalia Elementary, the majority of the children going to Wingo. Between the two neighboring schools there are eight empty classrooms available for the incoming students. A majority of the teachers will also be distributed between the two elementary schools. Miller went on to say, “I understand decisions have to be made, and it is up to the adults in the situation to insure that the kids are successful and transition. I am going to love these kids no matter where I am or where they are. I love Cuba and am grateful to work with dedicated staff and a great group of students. We are a big family and I am glad to be a part of it.” June 30, 2014 & " &' & ' #- closing date. One of the newest video games on the market, Titanfall was re-leased March 11 for Xbox One and PC Respawn. But, on March 25 Titanfall will be released for Xbox 360. Ti-tanfall is an evo-lutionary shooter game that takes place in the dis-tant future, where an ongoing war between a group named the “Mili-tia” and another group named the “I.M.C.” is taking place. !e game is set on a planet with very simi-lar features of Earth. !e planet is called the Frontier. In Titanfall, war rages on land by ground soldiers know as pilots

and vehicular combat. In the new Titanfall, the player gains the speed of a ground trooper with features never seen in the games before. With a “jump pack”, pilots can

run on walls, double jump in the air, and jump from building to building. !e new features also allow players to weave in between buildings with a free running abil-ity, making obtaining an advantage on enemy players almost simple. !e Titans are the “stars of the battle"eld.” Where most players

concerns would be centered with Titans being too overpowering to be taken down by pilots, the game creators addressed the issue. Respawn now has multiple ways to take down a Titan; a Titan can be

taken down by anti-Titan weapons (carried by pilots,) Titan VS. Titan warfare, and the ability for a pilot to jump on the back of a Titan, thus destroying important innner mechanics inside of the Titan. Be careful though, players! When preforming the last respawn move, make sure to jump to safety a short

distance away from the Titan. !is technique is called “Rodeo”. In addition to the newest ideas being brought to life in the game, Titanfall has non-player controlled bots programmd into the battle-

"eld of ev-ery game. !is adds a more en-joyable as-pect to the game that doesn’t re-quire you to "ght

Ttans and other online players. !ese bots make up to be little to no threat unless approached up close and/or in large groups. Overall, Titanfall receives a 9 out of 10 on my list for its’ graph-ics, gameplay and balance as a whole.
