Between travel and shows, we tracked down the sparkly-eyed Jordan Millar to find out a little more about his budding music career. Having toured with celebrities including Delta Goodrem, Brian McFadden and Katie Noonan, it could be presumed that Millar would fall under the pop-culture category of Australian music. However, describing his own music as a “deciduous musical tree, always changing a little bit but with its roots firmly planted in the pop music ground”, we might need to think again. Although Millar is no Liam Gallagher, we don’t anticipate collaboration with the likes of pop princess Jessica Mauboy anytime soon. As an award winning singer songwriter in Australia with a knack for lyrical creations, which song lyrically resonated with Millar? His choices clearly reflected his own sound, leaning toward the whimsical and the smooth. “Jeff Buckley’s ‘Forget Her’” pronounced the young musician, who is also a fan of Ireland’s ‘James Vincent McMorrow’ and ‘Bombay Bicycle Club’. Millar also keeps an eye on the musical prowess of Jamie Lidell who he finds to be an interesting and inspiring musical talent. When reflecting on his own music, the 24-year-old artist described ‘Recreate You’ as “complete, both as a story and a song” and confidently labelled it as his best work yet. When Millar was asked to list his top five albums of all time, he did not evade the question, narrowing the choice of his favourite compilations to; Jimi Hendrix ‘Axis Bold As Love’, Jamie Lidell ‘Multiply’, John Mayer ‘Room For Squares’, Dave Matthews Band ‘Under The Table or Cash’ and Incubus ‘Morning View’. If you missed Millar perform during March To The Music at The Galeries and think you could be his next big fan check out his website or Facebook for upcoming live dates and new song releases. It is difficult to decide what’s best to sample when it comes to exploring international cuisine on a local level and knowing the best local spots is a must for all Sydney siders. Inspired by travel and street foods of the world, we’ve narrowed it down to delicacies most commonly tested in two food culture capi-tals of the world; Turkey’s Bak-lava and Japan’s Okonomiyaki offer a taste of the sweet and savory flavours of the globe right here in the CBD.

A favourite of those with a sweet tooth is Baklava; a honey soaked Turkish dessert. Tradi-tionally made with pistachios, the sweet is made with layers of crisp filo pastry filled with nuts, sweetened sugar syrup and honey. If you have ever wandered the bustling streets of historic Istanbul, you will find patisseries no less visu-ally inspiring than those found on the streets of Paris. Son of Tuysuz showcases Turkey’s cultural diversity with a rich variety of delicious regional food.

The local Japanese favour-ite, chicken okonomiyaki is a Japanese style pancake made with cabbage, garlic, ginger and chilli topped with teppan-fried chicken, bean sprouts, red and spring onions, snow peas, driz-zled with wasabi mayonnaise,

garnished with pickled ginger and coriander. The fresh in-gredients and unusual layered pancake presentation make for a delicious meal that is widely celebrated in the streets of Osaka and Tokyo. If you’re not about to embark on a culinary journey overseas, enjoy these recommended international dishes right here in your own city. Autumn brings about not only a change of season, but also a number of new dishes added to the Wagamama menu. Wagamama is the most popular chain of Asian inspired noodle restaurant in the country and restaurants can only be popular for one good reason; the food is delicious. So travel with your taste buds and try the chicken okonomiyaki today.

Originally introduced by the army of British East India Com-pany in India, the Gin Tonic is a world famous high ball cocktail. Sophisticated, simple and straight up. Forget the copious amounts consumed in George Orwell’s ‘Nineteen Eighty Four’, this palate cleanser is formidable with a wedge of lime or cucumber. Think of Gin Tonic like a good red wine; it’s not even that bad for you thanks to the quinine in Tonic. Do like Don Draper and refresh your-self with a single Gin Tonic after a long days work, The Arthouse Hotel will whip one up to help you soothe your muscles and relax your mind.

When travelling the globe the best cuisine is often found on the bustling city streets. The street is where you will find the heart of a cuisine and its culture, somewhere among the taco carts, the noodle stalls and the hustle and bustle of fellow diners. “When eating, communication

of pleasure and delight is

universal” says Food Writer Tom Parker Bowles who is a contributor to the book ‘The World’s Best Street Food: Where To Find It And How To Make It’. Each of the 100 recipes, inspired by various curbside markets around the globe, is accompanied by an explanation of the food’s history, as well

as the best bazaar or market in the world where the dish can be found. Dishes include Masala Dosa from India, Bún Cha from Vietnam, Sabih from Israel and Hungarian Chimney Cake. Let this tempting list get your taste buds tingling, and take you on a culinary journey. Pick up your fork or simply

use your fingers, and munch your way through some of the world’s best street eats.  Pick it up at Books Kinokuniya ($29.95) and delight in the unique tasting tips, an essential item for your next holiday.

International supermodel and actor Lily Cole has been selected by The Body Shop as their first global brand advocate for the new campaign ‘Beauty With Heart’.

The Body Shop has long supported causes such as eliminating animal testing, defending human rights, supporting community trade in

developing nations and more recently a crusade to stop sex trafficking of children and young people.

‘Beauty with Heart’ and Cole’s involvement aims to bring attention to all these issues collectively and inform consumers on an international scale. There’s no denying the collaboration has the ability to

increase awareness for these causes, having aligned a fresh faced red haired beauty with the brand that just happens to have strutted the Victoria’s Secret runway among many others.

Cole is whole-heartedly on board stating she has “long been an advocate of the potential use of business and consumer power to create positive change”.

Sophie Gasperment, Executive Chairman for The Body Shop believes the future of beauty should be about “looking good, feeling good, and doing good too.”

Visit The Body Shop from May 15th and see ‘Beauty With Heart’ in all its glory.
