Students start losing ground in math

Algebra 1 is a gatekeeper course for UC and CSU-bound students

Counseling and course placement (math and STEM pathways) cause challenges

Students take the CAHSEE

85% of students are not college ready (per EAP)

Students fail CCC English and math placement tests and require basic skills classes, and fail to complete STEM certificates and degree transfer pathways.

By this point, students have made decisions about whether science and math are “right” for them

Students failing the CAHSEE* miss 5th-7th grade math concepts

Students take the Early Assessment Program (EAP) test

Students start to question relevancy of what they’re learning in school to their lives
