New Exhibits Offer Sneak Peek of the FutureOne of the most exciting aspects of our plans for a new science center are the exhibits that will fill the new galleries. Imagine, if you can, exhibit spaces that are roughly ten times the size of our current gallery space! Our exhibits team and the Science Museum of Minnesota (SMM) have been working with industry and education leaders to develop a master plan of exhibits that will focus on the science happening in North Dakota.
In order for our visitors to experience what is being planned, we have asked SMM to install a small suite of exhibits in
our current gallery later this spring. This small sampling will consist of a few nearly completed exhibits and also several exhibits that are in the prototype stage. These exhibits will allow our visitors of all ages to provide feedback to guide the efforts of our exhibits team as they work to demonstrate difficult concepts as hands-on experiences. The first group of exhibits will be ready for you to explore beginning April 21, with another smaller batch delivered in late May.
Summer Camp Registration OpensGateway to Science Summer Camp registration opens on April 1 at 8:00AM for our members. Non-Member registration will open on April 4 at 8:00AM. Summer Camps are open to students going into grades 1-8 in the Fall of 2016. Each camp includes fun, hands-on activities on a variety of themes including: STEM, Legos®, Minecraft®, Earth, Space and Robotics. Creativity Garden Grant ReceivedGateway to Science has been awarded a Creativity Garden mini-grant of $8,000 from the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC). We will be using this mini-grant to support the development of creativity and innovation-related programming in a new program, “Engineering Creativity.”
“Engineering Creativity” is a program designed for students in grades 3-5 attending Title I and tribal elementary schools in the Bismarck area. The program seeks to inspire creativity through open-ended engineering challenges and play using littleBits™ electronic building blocks. Gateway to Science Educational Outreach Coordinator, Courtney Stoltz, will take the “Engineering Creativity” programming into the classroom in selected underserved schools at no cost to the school or the students. At the conclusion of the program, the students will visit the Gateway to Science gallery for a field trip and to show off their creations.

NASA Scientist Visits North DakotaDr. Jack Bacon, NASA Systems Integrator, was a recent guest of the Visiting Scientist Series. During his stay in North Dakota, nearly 2,000 students attended presentations as far away as Tioga and Dickinson. Dr. Bacon, pictured here with Simon at Gateway to Science, was impressed with
the questions posed by students on topics such as gravitational waves (Einstein’s recently proved theory).

SUPER SCIENCE SEMINARSExplore STEM, Legos®, Vehicles, Minecraft©, and more during school breaks (based on Bismarck Public Schools calendar). Seminars are held 9AM-4PM (bring your lunch!). We invite children age 3 years through Kindergarten to bring their favorite adult for fun, hands-on science exploration and learning.

Blue Star Military Program Gateway to Science proudly takes part in the Blue Star Military Program held each year from Memorial Day through Labor Day. This program offers free admission to over 2,000 museums across the United
States to our military personnel and up to five family members. Blue Star is for active duty military, including Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines, National Guard, and Reserve members. Also, don’t forget that Gateway to Science offers military families discounted rates on memberships year-round!
