Objective

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a network that provides remote connectivity via anInternet tunnel connection between two places. One of the types of VPNs is a gateway-to-gateway VPN tunnel. With gateway-to-gateway, you can remotely connect different branchesof your company located at different geographical areas, making the transmission andreception of data between the areas more secure. This article explains how to create agateway-to-gateway VPN tunnel between two RV120W devices.

Step-by-Step Procedure

Note: Before you begin with the configuration, make sure both devices are in differentnetworks. Step 1. In the local RV120W Wireless-N VPN Firewall web configuration utility, choose VPN> IPSec > Advanced VPN Setup. The Advanced VPN Setup page opens:

Step 2. Under IKE Policy Table, click Add. The Add / Edit IKE Policy Configuration pageopens:

 

Step 3. In the Policy Name field, enter the name you want for this policy. Step 4. Under IKE SA Parameters, in the Authentication Method drop-down list, choose Pre-Shared Key. Step 5. In the Pre-Shared Key field, enter the key to be shared with the other RV120Wgateway. Step 6. Click Save to save your settings. Step 7. Repeat Steps 1 through 6 in the remote RV120W. Step 8. In the local RV120W Wireless-N VPN Firewall web configuration utility, choose VPN> IPSec > Advanced VPN Setup . The Advanced VPN Setup page opens:

Step 9. Under VPN Policy Table, click Add. The Add / Edit VPN Policy Configuration pageopens:

 

Step 10. In the Policy Name, enter a name for this policy. Step 11. In the Remote Endpoint field, enter a name of the remote connection. Step 12. Under Local Traffic Selection, In the Start address field, enter the IP address of thelocal network. Note: You can choose an end address which will establish a specific range of IP addressesfor this connection. Step 13. In the Subnet Mask field, enter the subnet mask of the local network. Step 14. Under Remote Traffic Selection, in the Start address field, enter the IP address ofthe remote network. Note: You can choose an end address which will establish a specific range of IP addressesfor this connection. Step 15. In the Subnet Mask field, enter the subnet mask of the remote network. Step 16. Click Save to save your settings. Step 17. Repeat Steps 8 through 16 on the remote RV120W, and switch the local andremote start addresses. Step 18. In the local RV120W Wireless-N VPN Firewall web configuration utility, choose Status > IPSec Connection Status. The IPSec Connection Status page opens:

Step 19. Under Active IPSec SAs, make sure the IPSec policy is established. This meansthe connection between both gateways is successful.
