Buffalo NY Client: TM MONTANTE DEVLEOPMENT Task: Complete the Gates Circle vision with their addition of Canterbury Woods retirement home (All white building). Introduce new programs for community regeneration of all ages with a mixed-use design of architecture to build on Buffalo's economics. We needed to pay close attention to the preservation of the Homeopathic buildings's reuse as well as maintaining the neighborhood's character defining elements (architecture decor) and propose new designs sensitive to scale, proportions, program and materials (aesthetics) to complement the historic fabric surrounding the site. 10-Stories was the maximum we went as the average building stories in the area are between 3-6. Residents need to feel connected to the site and the walk-ability factor needed to be high, so small scale buildings seemed fitting for the site to create good urban form.
