GATE 2016 will be conducted by IISc Bangalore on January 30 and 31, 2016 as well as February 6 & 7, 2016. The Applications will be available from September 1, 2015 till October 1, 2015. Candidates

who wish to apply for GATE 2016 must start their preparation from now on as there is barely enough time to cover the vast GATE 2016 syllabus.

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) 2016 will be organ-ized by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore supported in the operations at the zonal level by the seven IITs namely IIT Bom-

bay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee. The GATE 2016 Application Form is completely online and candidates need to upload the supporting documents as specified along with their photograph and signature.

The GATE 2016 Application Process will be through GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System). Candidates will have to log in using their Enrolment ID or Email ID along with the password. The GOAPs will be used to download the Admit Card, Check the Result and download the GATE score Card.

GATE 2016 will also be completely online and held in multiple sessions for those papers that have a large number of applicants. Biometric information (Photograph and Fingerprints) for randomly selected candidates may be captured before the start of the examination.

GATE 2016 Scores are valid for a period of three years

Candidates who qualify in GATE can apply for PSUs that may recruit on the basis of the GATE 2016 Scores.

IISc Bangalore which is the organizing institute for GATE 2016 has announced changes in the syllabus for some papers in GATE 2016. First and foremost it is important for any GATE 2016 aspirant to sit and

check the syllabus. Check the important Topics for the branch as per previ-ous paper analysis. Many toppers have listed them out and so have expe-rienced faculty. Sort the topics into Easy, Difficult, Very Difficult and Not Known. Your Preparation depends on a large way on this analysis of yours.

Candidates must check the standard books that are right for GATE preparation. The titles can be found out from the many blogs, top-per interviews that are available on the net. A careful analysis of the

books list will allow students to know which the best is for them and they should study those.

It is imperative not to select every book recommended by experts or top-pers as that will be a never ending list. Instead choose all such books that cover the topics in detail including the basic concepts. Choose such books that you can understand and study.

Most of us do this exercise. The trick is to follow it diligently. The Preparation plan should be realistic and achievable. It should be planned such that the early days are for brushing the concepts

and laying the foundation. The schedule should slowly move to include test papers and practice sessions once brushing up of the concepts is done. Revi-sion is a crucial part and should be accommodated in the plan.

Most important the plan should include some form of relaxation as all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. A separate time slot should be devoted simply relaxing through music, walks or something similar as per the student’s wish

Starting with the basic concepts, students should start study with the topics that are unknown or new as these will be slightly difficult to tackle. The trick is to get familiar with them. At the same time, brush

and revise all those topics that are easy. Make a timetable that blends both the topics- difficult and easy topics such that the topics are all covered in a phased manner.

It is important to prepare handy notes for all topics that can be used to brush and revise the important concepts and topics for the GATE 2016 exam.

It is important to practice what you have learnt through the given GATE exam Pattern. The best way to do this is to solve papers- sample papers, previous year’s papers. At the beginning, it is important to test oneself

One of the most crucial parts of GATE preparation, revision is never ending. Students have to continuously revise what they have learnt else they will forget the learning they have done. Revision gets more

and more intense during the last days. Candidates must also refer to the handy notes that are made during the study part when they were learning the basic concepts.

The last days of the preparation are for revision and mock tests. Time is one essence in GATE where calculations are to be done fast to race against time and score well. The numerical Questions don’t

carry negative marking but are dependent upon accuracy. Mock tests and tests series aid students to hone their performance skills while judging the preparation levels.

These are constant stages in the entire GATE preparation process. Candidates should ensure that they get enough sleep and rest. They should also ensure that their stress levels don’t shoot up. To

counter that some form of relaxation is necessary – in form of music, exer-cise, meditation, walking etc. They should also not be demotivated if their performance is not as expected in the practice or mock tests. Since the tests are to help in preparation, the results should be used to spur on to better preparation and better performance.
