The word Mʼbogo is from the Swahili language meaningCape Buffalo, a dangerous big game animal weighing upto a ton and as strong and fearless as any animal on earth. To that end, we named our new gut hook skinner in honorof this “Big Five” trophy revered by hunters world wide.

As a professional guide, Terry Treutel knows first-handwhat a quality skinning knife needs to get the job done. Asa custom knifemaker for 20 years, he carefully refined theprofile of the blade, grinds and handle geometry to pro-duce a knife that is fast, easy and comfortable to use.

Features include: a gently curved handle to provide asecure and comfortable grip, a dramatically radiusedblade for ease of skinning and a gut hook for fast, safeand precise field dressing. We added a zirconia ceramicblade to dramatically improve edge retention. Technicalceramic is substantially harder than steel, thereby keepingthe blade sharp many times longer that steel.

One of the most important functions of a knife to the serious offshore, flats and big river angler is the care and preparation of game fish onceback at the dock. Large game fish require sharp, specially shapedblades to insure the most efficient processing of the delicious meatprovided by so many large game fish.

The Montauk Point™ knives are the culmination of years of develop-ment between custom knife maker and international sportsman GregLightfoot and commercial fishermen who tested and helped refine thesize, shape and characteristics of the knives to insure maximum cuttingperformance in the fillet and steaking process. In addition to the needfor high performance cutting, the processing of large fish and multiplefish requires the knife to have the ergonomic characteristics of a securegrip to insure minimum user fatigue and maximum comfort, and thecorrect amount of length and flex to maximize the useable meat andminimize waste. To achieve these essential characteristics, Lightfootincorporated a curved handle spine and finger choil and a 9.5" bladewith just the right flex. The companion steaking knife features a thicker, stiffer blade spine to better “steak” large fish.
