Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous country with around 250 million people and also the world’s largest archipelago with over 17,000 islands. The largest economy in Southeast Asia, Indonesia has recorded strong economic growth amid global economic uncertainty and volatility over the last few years.

In a recent research report titled “Global Development Horizons 2011-Multipolarity: The New Global Economy”, the World Bank has predicted that Indonesia will be among the six emerging countries that will form an economic axis by 2025. Indonesia along with Brazil, China, India, South Korea and Russia will control more than half of the world’s economy.

As a major gas producer, Indonesia plays an important role in the region’s energy security. High rates of development, coupled with increasing consumer purchasing power and change in climate policies are fueling Asia Pacific's growing demand for natural gas at a compounded rate of 4.9 per cent over the next decade.

While gas resources are plentiful in the region, realizing the potential of natural gas calls for much greater investments in infrastructure and innovative energy and climate policy initiatives.

How can Asia-Pacific countries simultaneously sustain economic growth, meet escalating energy needs and strengthen energy security, while curbing the rise in greenhouse gas emissions?

Themed “Unleashing Potential, Sustaining Growth” GASEX 2012 will bring regional governments and industries together to exchange information and find common ground for collaboration towards solutions to these pressing questions.

We look forward to welcoming you to this important conference.

On behalf of the Indonesian Gas Association (IGA), it is my honor and pleasure to invite you to attend the forthcoming 12th Gas Information Exchange in the Western Pacific Area (GASEX 2012) to be held at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua Bali- Indonesia.

Among the thousands of islands that make up Indonesia, Bali is undoubtedly the most well known. A top world tourist destination, this ‘Island of the Gods’ is famed for its varied landscape, from rugged coastlines and sandy beaches to spectacular rice terraces amid picturesque mountains and maiden forests rich with flora and fauna.

Bali’s natural beauty provides a magical backdrop to its colorful, unique and deeply spiritual culture. With the numerous attractions offered by the island, IGA has chosen Bali as the ultimate destination for GASEX 2012.

The conference will be held at the 14-hectare luxury beach-front Westin Resort Nusa Dua on Bali’s southern coast. Located just 30 minutes from Bali’s Ngurah-Rai International Airport, the resort integrates traditional Balinese architecture, boasting lush gardens and ornamental ponds, with modern resort amenities and world-class meeting facilities.

We invite you to come and experience the irresistible enchantment and beauty of this ‘Paradise on Earth’ and assure you of our utmost attention to make your visit truly memorable.

Conference Topics

The Emerging Role of Non-Conventional Gas in Replacing Depleting Conventional Gas Resources

Natural Gas (Conventional Gas & Non-Conventional Gas) and Renewable Energies for Sustaining Growth

Objectives:

In continuing the role of conventional gas as a major source of clean energy, market integration is needed to help increase the economic value of gas/LNG projects as well as price trends.

Difficulties in discovering and developing major gas resources coupled with the growth of industrial gas users, necessitate better management of reserves to production ratio in order to ensure security of future supply.

Participants will discuss pertinent collaboration and synergy needed among stakeholders in the region to enhance investments in both upstream development and mid-stream gas infrastructure, as well as share ideas and experiences on increasing gas utilization for economic growth.

Objectives:

As the world’s conventional gas resources deplete, non-conventional gas development is gaining momentum and has been implemented in various countries such as the United State, Australia, China, Indonesia and India.

Non-conventional gas has different challenges from conventional gas, particularly in its economic value. Coalbed Methane is one of the largest non-conventional gas resources in Asia Pacific. The issue of land use is another challenge in CBM development.

Participants will exchange ideas and share experiences on potential solutions to the challenges and best practices to optimize non-conventional gas development.

Objectives:

To discuss the role of natural gas in stimulating the development of Renewable Energies and to share information/experience on creating synergy between natural gas and renewable energies towards a sustainable solution.

Topics include:

• Role and utilization of renewable energy resources in Asia Pacific (geothermal, solar, hydro and other non-carbon energy)• Optimizing and improving efficiency throughout the energy chain: natural gas as feed stock of fuel cell, improvement of high thermal efficiency of gas appliances, IT/gas automation• Creating synergy between natural gas and renewable energies, transitioning to the use of environmentally friendly energy options• Energy mix: increasing the share of non-carbon and renewable energies towards a sustainable solution

UBUD TRADITIONAL ART MARKET

Ubud is known as the cultural center of Bali and as a land of artists. Located on Jl. Raya Ubud, Ubud Market has kept much of its traditional charm and is a highlight of the Ubud experience, where the Balinese go each morning to shop for their daily staples of flower offerings, vegetables, spices and fruit.

The sprawling market provides every souvenir item imaginable, from silver jewelry, and precious stones to batiks, T-shirts, beach sarongs, wood and stone carvings, and a wide variety of handicrafts and paintings.

TIRTA EMPUL / TAMPAK SIRING

For more than a thousand years, Balinese worshipers have been drawn to Pura Tirta Empul, whose sacred spring is said to have been created by Indra and to have curative properties. The tradition continues almost unchanged at the temple today.

Founded in 926 AD, the Tirta Empul Temple includes the traditional Balinese split gate along with shrines to Shiva, Vishnu, Braham, Mt. Batur, and Indra and a long rectangular pool carved of stone, filled with koi and fed by the sacred spring via 12 fountains.

Worshippers first make an offering at the temple, then climb into the main pool to bathe and pray. Many collect the holy water in bottles to take home. Nearby there are two smaller pools fed by the spring.

The collection presents many styles of Balinese paintings, ranging from traditional to modern and includes Kamasan paintings on tree barks and Batuan paintings which date back to the 1930s.

ARMA is also a cultural center where theater performances and cultural workshops are held together with painting, dance and music classes.
