A veteran of action a t Wake, Saipan, Okinawa and Ie Shima, he was a member of the crew of the destroyer Ordronaux which escorted the first merchant ships into Tokyo Bay following Japan's capitulation.
He writes his parents that he saw the Jap planes land on Ie Shima, bringing Jap envoys, and saw the C-54 transports that took them to ^confer with American officers with whom they signed surrender terms.
His ship also laid off Ie Shima, scene of the death of Ernie Pyle, famous war correspondent.
Prior to Pacific action he saw service in the North Atlantic and in the Mediterranean.
His brother, Private William P. Delong, was killed in action, March 26 in Germany while a member of the 35th Infantry, 89th Division of the Third Army.
His cousin, James P. Mulligan, who worked for the Westchester

Prince Invites Return Of Missions To Japan
TOKYO, (AP) — The Tokyo newspaper Asahi said that Premier Prince Higashi-Kuni in an interview invited foreign missionaries to remain in Japan and help construct a new nation with high morals and culture.
Lighting Company from 1928 to 1930 and later moved to White Plains, was lost at sea Sept. 2, 1942, while a member of the crew of the merchant ship William Jennings Bryan, which was torpedoed on the way to Murmansk, Russia.
Pappas Wins Eight Battle Stars Andrew Anton Pappas, twenty,
watertender third class, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Pappas of 724 South Sixth Avenue, has served aboard the heavy cruiser Portland for 28 months and has earned eight battle stars.
He saw action from Nov. 19, 1943, to the end of the war, being in action almost constantly, including campaigns at the Gilbert and Marshall Islands, raids of Palau, Truk and other islands in that area; at Hollandia and in the capture of the southern Palau Islands; Leyte and Luzon operations and the Okinawa, Ie Shima assault.
Aboard his ship, the surrender of Truk atoll was signed simultaneously with the signing in Tokyo Bay.
A former student at Graham Junior High and Edison High Schools, he was employed by Phillips Metalix Corporation when he enlisted early in 1943.

Lt. Johnson At Surrender Scene Lieutenant Neil L. Johnson, 227
Sheridan Avenue, was aboard the Seacat submarine in Tokyo Bay, which witnessed the formal Japanese surrender Sept. 2. The Sea-cat was one of 12 underseas vessels chosen to represent the "silent service." She helped whittle down the enemy fleet during war patrols in the Yellow and China Seas areas.

piro, nineteen,-* of 9 Pondfield Parkway, has enrolled at the Army University Center in Shir-venham, England.
Stationed with the Bremen Port Command, Private Shapiro is studying advertising and Shakespeare. He attended Davis High School and the ' University of Illinois.
Joseph Bloom Out Of Navy Joseph N. Bloom, 415 Gramatan
Avenue, was discharged Sept. 19, under the Navy's point system from the Sampson Naval Separation Center, with 50 ̂ points.
An electrician's mate third class, Bloom was in the navy since April 18, 1942. His last assignment was on submarine duty in the Pacific, where he served on the U. S. Spogy, which sank 24 ships of all types in the China Sea, Formosa, Japan and in and around the Philippines.
Bloom holds ribbons for the American, Atlantic and Pacific Theaters, the Good Conduct Medal, one star in the Pacific Ribbon for helping sink a Jap submarine, and the submarine combat insignia with three stars.

China's Little Devils (6 and 9) : "Ducky" Louie, a new star in the Hollywood sky. is featured in this film, which tells a story of the fight by young China against the Japanese.

State Considers Permataent Plate For Auto License
ALBANY, (AP) — Permanent aluminum l i c e n s e plates with changeable date inserts like Connecticut's may replace the familiar steel plates in 1947, Motor Vehicle Commissioner Clifford J. Fletcher says.
Experiments to develop a permanent plate have been conduct-

There will be no change in 1046 license plates. One steel plate wiQ be issued for each vehicle.
