Hi, my name is Gary and I’m a Photographer, Graphic Designer

and Animator.

My background is in Fine Art. I graduated from Crawford College of Art and Design (Cork, Ireland) in 2004

with a B.A. in Fine Art, majoring in Print Making and Photography.

I then completed further study in Digital Media.

In 2007 I moved from Ireland to New Zealand where I have worked as

a Digital Production Technician forImagelab, a large format digital imaging and display graphics

company in Wellington.

I currently work for Multi-MediaSystems Ltd in Auckland. My role as a

Graphic Operator involves the creation and running of visual content for live

events such as award shows.

I also operate a site calledwww.oldphotos.co.nz

which is an online image library of several hundred vintage photographs

of New Zealand and Australia.

My major was Print Making, specialising in Photography (digital and darkroom).I also studied Art History and Appreciation as part of this course.

For my degree exhibition, I produced a series of photographs, illustrations and miniature sculp-tures. The body of work was a response to the notion that among our culture of instant reporting and media coverage, imagery can be a very powerful tool.

My thesis, entitled ‘High Art in the Digital Age; recent work by Andreas Gursky and Bill Viola and it’s cultural context’, explored the idea that artists are responding to the rise in creative technology by producing new high end work. I examined how early video art was received, and how new media work is a major force of contemporary art practice.

My end of year project was titled ‘Glucksman: Pavilion in the Trees’. This was an interactive guide to The Lewis Glucksman Gallery, Cork, Ireland. It was created using Macromedia Director. It contained a virtual tour of the building, an interactive location map and several informative movies.

ACHIeVeMeNTS

Established and ran a ‘Turner Prize’ society in University, which included organising visits to the Turner Prize Exhibitions at Tate Britain, London.Shortlisted for a national graduate award based on my work in my Degree Exhibition.Won two silver merits in the Kodak Professional Photography Awards 2011, and one in 2009.Completed a 160km simulation of The Lake Taupo Cycle Race in 2011.Granted New Zealand Permanent Residency under the Skilled Migrant category in 2010, and New Zealand Citizenship in 2015.
