AGENDA 9:00 AM COFFEE HOUR 10:00 AM BUSINESS MEETING 11:00 AM PROGRAM Skip Webb: “The Life Of Benjamin James and the James House,

Hampton, New Hampshire” 12:30 PM LUNCH Bring your lunch and picnic at the museum.

There will be a trip to the Garrison House after lunch.

THE SPEAKER Our featured speaker this year will be Skip Webb, president of the James House Association, Inc. Appearing in 18th Century period dress, Skip will discuss the life of Benjamin James from his life as a weaver in Newbury, Massachusetts, his 1702 marriage to Suzannah Smith, and his purchase of the James House Property in Hampton, New Hampshire, in 1705. He will describe Benjamin James’s construction of the James House in 1723, its surrounding property, and detail what farm life in the homestead was like in the middle 1700s. And he will discuss why the homestead is considered an architectural gem worth preservation and why it has been designated a National Historic site.

He will also review some of the outstanding accomplishments of the James family during the seven generations it occupied the historic homestead. Join us in welcoming Skip to our 114th Annual Duston-Dustin Family Reunion.

The nine booklets detailing the first 12 generations of the Duston-Dustin Family “plus Additions and Corrections,” is $40.00 per set, or specific single copies at $5.00 each. PLEASE HELP OUR GARRISON HOUSE! Through the caring efforts of generations of their descendants, the 1697 hearth and home of Hannah and Thomas Duston continues to stand in humble glory as part of the Haverhill, Massachusetts, community. After 321 years, this is a most remarkable achievement!

However, the brick Duston-Dustin Garrison House – listed on the Massachusetts Historical Commission’s National Register of Historic Places – is entirely dependent on your love and that of a few others who may cross its well-worn threshold. To increase awareness of this cherished historic landmark, and to take full advantage of local resources, the Trustees of the Duston-Dustin Garrison House Assoc-iation, Inc. (DDGHA) joined the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce. In the effort to raise funds, the Garrison House is opened for viewing, sometimes with the benefit of the presence of Jennifer Emerson (right), a Hannah Duston descendant and re-enactor, and a DDGHA trustee. Garrison House visitation is limited to about 15 seasonal weekend days a year, plus a few other specially announced events. To

increase public awareness by engaging digitally-savvy people in this age of social media, a Facebook page has also been created (“Duston-Dustin Garrison House”) and is proving helpful and popular. It is ably administered by DDGHA President Diane Dustin Itasaka. An independent non-profit corporation as recognized by the Common-wealth of Massachusetts and registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) corporation, the DDGHA is almost completely dependent on annual donations it receives via the limited weekend openings hosted by Diane and other volunteers, including Jennifer as “Goodwife Duston.” Despite all its efforts the DDGHA con-tinues to edge alarmingly close to an inability to meet the property’s current annual costs of about $5,000, which includes taxes, insurance, utilities, and upkeep. No funds are received from outside sources such as municipal or state agency programs. To help the Duston-Dustin Family Association fulfill its respon-sibility to preserve family relics and landmarks, the Executive Committee is requesting that – in addition to your DDFA membership – by separate check you consider regularly including a sustaining donation payable to the Duston-Dustin Garrison House Association, Inc. The DDFA will process such donations since our treasurer serves as the acting treasurer of the DDGHA. Kindly mail Garrison House checks either to:

David A. Dustin, DDFA Secretary 469 Dustin Road, Contoocook, NH 03229; or Peter G. Dustin, DDGHA Treasurer 108 School House Lane, Ardmore, PA 19003.

Thank you!
