One suggested road trip is to fly into Perth, head north to Darwin, down to Alice Springs and

then on to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney (but don't spend any time in Sydney yet), Brisbane,

Cairns and finally return to Sydney and go wild! This can be done by backpacker bus or hiring

a car (such as spaceships available through www.xtreme-gap.com), and gives all the flexibil-

ity you need.

The West coast has the dolphins at Monkey Mia and the Ningaloo Reef. The Northern Territory

is the most beautiful part of Australia, so camp in Crocodile Dundee country and see the Abo-

riginal rock art in Kakadu National Park. From Alice Springs visit Uluru and Kings Canyon.

Coober Pedy is a superb, remote opal mining town and a visit to the Neighbours set in Mel-

bourne is a must.

A trip to the rainforest, camping with the dingoes on Fraser Island, sailing the Whitsunday Is-

lands and bungee jumping, rafting and diving the Barrier Reef will make the East coast unfor-

gettable.

ARRIVING

Most fly into Sydney which is a really cool city, but finding your feet can be tricky, it is really

daunting to turn up in a foreign city without knowing where you are going. So to make your

life (and arrival) easier we have several arrival packages in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and

Cairns. Typically these include a 2 to 4 night package at a cool backpackers in the heart of

Sydney and some free optional tours, airport transfer, breakfast, accommodation, a Harbour

Want to come face to face with a 2 metre shark before breakfast? The Divemaster program will give you ample

opportunity! This 12 week course provides you with unlimited diving, exploring the tropical waters of the Gulf of

Thailand. If you are really fortunate you will dive with the worlds largest fish the graceful Whale Shark. We will

take you from Zero to Hero (open water, through Advanced and Rescue Diver level before starting your DM). Once

qualified you will be able to gain paid work as a Dive Master at any accredited PADI dive resort in the world. It is

PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED: DIVEMASTER. First dive qualifications 6 months prior

We HATE instructors. For good reason: dive instructors are always smiling. They get paid to live on tropical island

―working‖. Unfair to call it work really. They spend their days in the sun or underwater, training divers and sharing

the magical underwater environments they call the office. Their colleagues are Whale sharks, Mantas and tropical

fish. Their clients wear bikinis and beach shorts and wetsuits and tip them for doing such a wonderful job. The

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor qualification enables these horrible people to work anywhere in the world with

a diving centre—usually in idyllic resorts. They are able to constantly travel and see the world with out the specter

of having to return to work or use a credit card to fund their trips. You too could be one of these horrible people,

with the Xtreme Gap instructor course, we may end up hating you too.

TECHNICAL DIVING

This is serious diving at depth beyond recreational limits. So…do you think you‘re up

to the challenge? Xtreme Gap have partnered with one of Thailand‘s leading Techni-

cal Diving organizations to instruct you how to execute technical dives safely.

THE PROGRAMME

Technical SCUBA diving is diving other than conventional commercial or research diving that takes divers beyond

recreational diving limits.

The Wreck Hunter Program will first take you through a full PADI Divemaster Internship. During your DM

Internship you will also be trained up as a PADI Specialty Divers in both Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diving and Deep

Diving. Once certified as a PADI Divemaster and having accumulated the required number of dives, you will

then be eligible to begin your DSAT Tec Deep Diver training. The DSAT Tec Deep Diver course lasts 10 days,

culminating in a 3 day technical dive expedition aboard the shipwreck research vessel the M.V. Trident.

EXTREME SPORTS: TECHNICAL DIVER, NITROX, WRECKHUNTER IN THAILAND

LOCATION: KOH TAO, GULF OF THAILAND

COURSE DURATION: 12 WEEKS

PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED: NONE

MV TRIDENT: TECH DIVE VESSEL

M.V. Trident was built for the German Navy and used as a Coastguard cutter in the Baltic

Sea. She was sold to Thailand and used by Thai Customs before being sold and converted for

diving use. She is a stable comfortable vessel with lots of room to relax in between wreck

hunting dives.

THE PROGRAMME

You will need to be a pretty advanced diver (50 dives minimum) before you can learn to work in this field. If you

have no prior diving experience do not worry! Enrol in he Xtreme Gap Ultimate Koh Dive Experience Program. We

have negotiated a deal with one of Asia‘s top dive operators to train you to a sufficient level, before handing you

over to a top Videography academy. All of this can be found on the additions page.

At the top Videography academy you will train and do an internship over a period of 6 weeks, where you will

learn all there is to know about the basics of Videography, diving and working in the field. They will even train

your commercial skills. You will also have the opportunity to film open water certifications, whale sharks, grey reef

sharks and a plethora of marine life. Sell your movies for extra travel money! Imagine staying on a tropical island

MASTER OF FREEDIVING

Did you know that a freediving world record for holding one‘s breath is more then

9 minutes? Do you know that people have been in depths of more then 200 meters

and back on a one single breath of air? So, what is freediving like? Ever tried ask-

ing someone how it is like when you are jumping with a parachute? Or flying an

airplane? It can not be described, it is one of the things you need to experience.

Xtreme Gap have partnered with the regions leading Free Diving School an inde-

pendent free dive organization established in 2004 by internationally recognized

free dive instructors. The team has vast experience in training and worldwide com-

petitions. Their qualifications include dives deeper than 80 meters and static breath

-holds of over 7½ minutes. In 6 weeks you will learn about free diving, about the

sensation, beauty, personal experience and challenge. It is so much more than just

depth and minutes. You will visit another dimension where you can move around

freely and become one with the sea.

THE PROGRAMME

Apnea, free diving or breath-hold diving is a beautiful sport for people who love the feeling of being under water

ROCK CLIMBING

The beginner rock climbing course in Thailand is open to all ages and all levels, no prior rock climbing

experience is needed although you will need a good level of fitness.

Our 7 day rock climbing course, set on a beautiful tropical island (Koh Tao) and will teach you the ba-

sics of rock climbing, giving you all the inspiration you could need to develop a life log climbing pas-

sion. The setting is spectacular too, as you climb through the lush jungle and look out to sea from the

pinnacles rising majestically out of the trees. The 7 day climbing course is inclusive of accommodation

at our beautiful resort on Koh Tao Thailand.

THE PROGRAMME

Rock I course – Beginner top-rope climbing Two part course starting with an in-shop ground school

session followed by an afternoon on the rocks. This course covers the basic skills needed for technical

rock climbing, including safety considerations, climbing techniques, use of equipment, basic knots, be-

laying, and abseiling/rappelling.

Bouldering session Bouldering is a great way to practice and improve your climbing skills. Boulders

range from around 3-5m high, but the climber ascends no higher than he can safely fall from. Work

with one of our experienced instructors on your climbing technique in one of Koh Tao’s legendary boul-

der fields.

Island View Abseil Perched high on one of the tallest peaks on Koh Tao, you will discover the art of ab-

seiling/ rappelling. After your initial training you should be comfortable with the equipment and ready

to abseil down a 25m vertical cliff. After gaining confidence, we will then move up to our 30m over-

hanging abseil, where you will be suspended high above the canopy with panoramic views over half

the island.

Rock II course – Advanced anchor building Two part course starting with a detailed ground school con-

centrating on the principals of top-rope anchor systems. The session will concentrate on equalization

of rock climbing protection, route selection, anchor site selection and assessing and backing of fixed

anchors. The outdoor portion of the course will be spent atop the cliffs building basic anchor systems

and then climbing on the work we have done. The next day we will then take all your new skills and

head up to the rocks to concentrate on working on advanced climbing techniques.

BodyMind – Yoga, Climbing and Massage To finish your week, we will concentrate on preparing your

body and mind for a session on the rocks. The day starts with a personal Yin2Yang Yoga session on our

deck, which focuses the mind and prepares the body with specific stretches for climbing. We will then

head out to the rocks and do what climbers like to do best… climb! The day is topped off with a Thai

massage conducted by an experience massage therapist giving your body a well dissevered pamper-

ing.

LEARN THE FILIPINO MARTIAL ART MODERN ARNIS IN THE PHILIPPINES.

Arnis is a deadly system of Filipino martial arts (FMA) also known as Escrima and Kali. As a self-defence system it

is easy to learn and incredibly effective. During the training you will be leaning to use weapons and also un armed

combat techniques. The primary weapon is the rattan stick, called a cane or baston (baton). Both single and dou-

ble stick techniques are taught; unarmed defence against the stick and against bladed weapons. This is an incredi-

ble art centred around ―the flow‖ a learned skill of smoothly countering and attacking.

With the FMA Xtreme gap program, you get the unique opportunity to learn and train with Filipino grand masters

in a beautiful, tropical Asian setting.

FMA TRAINING

The teaching of the basic skills in FMA are traditionally simplified. With limited time to teach flashy and intricate

techniques, only skills that were proven effective in battle and could easily be taught en masse were used. This

allowed villagers, generally not professional soldiers, a measure of protection against other villages, as well as for-

eign invaders. This philosophy of simplicity is still used today and is the underlying base of the FMA. Because of

this approach, the FMA are often mistakenly considered to be "simple" fighting arts. However, this refers only to

its systematization, not effectiveness. To the contrary, beyond the basic skills lies a very complex structure and a

refined skill set that takes years to master.

WHAT WILL I LEARN

Training covers empty-hand self-defence (striking, locking, throwing, etc.) as well as the trademark single and

double stick techniques of the Filipino martial arts. Other aspects of the art include espada y daga (sword and dag-

ger fighting), sinawali (double stick weaving patterns), and tapi-tapi (locking drills with the stick). In addition to

partner drills, Modern Arnis includes the use of anyo (kata), solo forms both with and without the stick. Emphasis

is placed on fitting the art in with a student's previous training ("the art within your art"), smoothly reacting to

changing situations in the fight ("the flow"), and countering the opponent's attempt to counter strikes directed at

him ("tapi-tapi )

Arnis teaches the interrelationship between empty hand skills and weapons. Therefore the FMA should be consid-

ered a complete martial arts system that develops many different types of skills for combat.

ENVIRONMENT

The training takes place mainly out-

doors, in selected locations providing

exciting tropical settings. On the

beach, in tropical parks and also in a

dedicated FMA training school. The

teach you FMA, but also integrate you

THE TRAINING

We have developed a program open to all levels. The training is 6 days per week (2 hours) and are 1

Every day in the early morning hours, when it is not too hot, we start off our Thai boxing training at

the Boxing Stadium. If the morning hours don't suit your holiday plans, no problem, we also hold daily

training sessions in the evening when it cools down again. You can learn Muay Thai, either for self de-

fence, to get fit or just out of curiosity and you need no experience. The training consists of skipping

rope and shadow boxing which is a good way of stretching and warming up. Running up and down for

short distances will help to improve your foot work and you will learn many new techniques. The

warming up is followed by bag work. Starting with a 3-5 minute round of punching, kicking, kneeing

and elbowing a kick bag to increase your stamina and the power of all your physical weapons. Inter-

active pad training follows, one to one with the muay Thai trainer.

The Martial Arts school in China is adjusted to high Western standards, Western

run and communication (in English) will be no problem.

BEING A DIVEMASTER, WHAT IS IT LIKE?

Making the choice to become a professional diver is a simple one… There are two choices. 1. You train to be a Di-

vemaster because you love diving, the laid back people, you have some time off and gain experience and a qualifi-

cation at the same time. 2. You do all that but make the choice to really change your career, travel the world and

maintain the life style…

Xtreme Gap offers different locations to do your Divemaster. Thailand Koh Tao, In the Philippines and this one… In

Honduras, Central America. The courses are alike but the locations are different… although they are all beautiful,

warm, have a warm sea and lot‘s of great dive sites.

A BIT MORE ABOUT WHAT IS SPECIFIC TO ROATAN

Our dive school is located in the village of West End, Roatan, Honduras it's a very

popular dive destination for young people. Our partner has been working successfully

for over 15 years and have a great reputation for safety. There is lots to do on the is-

land and underwater! Including Other activities on Roatan include fishing, horse riding,

canopy tours, kayaking and dolphin encounters and there is an option to take Spanish

lessons.

There's a great night life in West End and it is a small community. If you go to a bar

you will probably know half the people there after a couple of weeks here. The

mainland is a short ferry ride away and there are jungle treks and white water rafting

around La Ceiba, where the ferry docks. In less than a days overland travel you can

be in Copan which is one of the important Mayan Ruins in Central America and right

on the Guatemalan border.

During your Divemaster course we can train you from open water to Divemaster. If

you already have diving experience we can adjust the program for you. From zero to

hero takes 12 weeks and you can dive all you want. And you will!

During the Accelerated Free Fall skydiving Course in Spain, you will be taught how to become a solo

skydiver by mastering a series of 8 gradated jump levels. After successfully completing the Acceler-

ated Free Fall Skydiving Course in Seville you then need to do 10 consolidation jumps in order to gain a

qualification enabling you to jump anywhere in the world. The Accelerated Free Fall skydiving Course

lasts between seven to ten days, the variation is due to weather restrictions. Bearing in mind Spain

has the most amount of sun in Europe, this makes taking your Accelerated Free Fall Skydiving Course

in Spain a very convenient and attractive option.

THE PROGRAMME

The Ground school starts at 9 am and takes the best part of the day (approximately 6 hours). The

training comprises lectures and physical activities covering all aspects of the skydives that you will be

making. You will learn about the equipment, orientation, what to do in case of an emergency, reserves,

While there is considerable flexibility in the program you will be expected to assist

every day for 2 hours on a ski lessons, shadowing Ski and Snowboard instructors,

helping with the clients ski improvement lessons. You will get the opportunity to

do some guiding and lots of on and off piste skiing.

Private training 5 days a week with ski instructors for 2 hours a day (max group is

5) and get to know all off piste routes

When assisting you can ski with the instructors up to 4 hours a day, or just head

off on your own.

The accommodation is not directly in the ski resort however it is in a near by vil-

lage a bit lower down the mountain oozing Spanish charm. This has been chosen

as the cost of living will be considerably cheaper for you, and the setting is also

superb. Daily transfers to the resort and school are included, and take about 20

minutes.

The apartment and town will be the ideal place to relax at the end of a long day

can plains, Kilimanjaro offers the would be mountain climber the chance to summit a giant, and have an unforget-

table experience in the process. The climbing Kilimanjaro to Africa's highest point Uhuru peak is certainly a chal-

lenge, but achievable. The Rongai route ascents Kilimanjaro from the north astern side of the mountain, along the

border between Tanzania and Kenya. This route retains a sense of unspoilt wilderness and offers a different per-

spective on Kilimanjaro by approaching it from the north.

MARANGU ROUTE, TANZANIA. 7 DAYS 6 NIGHTS

TIGER SHARK DIVING

There is probably nowhere else in the world and certainly nowhere else in South Africa where an exhilarating ex-

perience can be delivered.

The tiger shark is a predator, known for eating a wide range of items including humans (this is a pretty unfair rep

and no one has yet been eaten during a Tiger shark dive! Its usual diet consists of fish, seals, birds, smaller

sharks, squid, turtles, and dolphins (not gap year Students). It has sometimes been found with man-made waste

such as license plates or pieces of old tires in its digestive tract and is often referred to as "the wastebasket of the

sea". This shark may be easily identified due to its dark stripes which are similar to a tiger pattern. It also has dor-

sal fins that are distinctively close to its tail. These sharks are often large in size and may encounter humans be-

cause they often visit shallow reefs, harbours and canals.

CANOEING ON THE AFRICAN ORANGE RIVER

Under the guidance of experienced and qualified staff, you will enjoy a 4 day - 4 night adventure not

The days are spent on the Orange River where we will explore this magnificent desert eco system. Our guides will

take you through some fast flowing water and guide you with knowledge and experience to ensure our enjoyment of
