    Gandhi Cup Opening Ceremony

    On Monday, November 1st

2010, at around 12:30 pm, my school Gandhi Ancol formally holds

the opening ceremony of their annual event Gandhi Open Tournament or also known as Gandhi

Cup. This tournament has already been held since 2006. Each year always has its unique ways in

doing the whole event, including the opening ceremony. Thats no wonder since the committees, which consist of people who are responsible for the whole event, are different every year. Last

years Gandhi Cup has no such thing as glamorous opening like what this years committee has

done, so does the last two years. This years Gandhi Cup actually hold a grand opening where

they gather the whole SMA Gandhi students, from grade ten to grade twelve, to see all the

competitors who join the Gandhi Cup, and also having the champions of the Septembers event

Gandhi Got Talent to show their talents.

The opening ceremony of GOT 4 (Gandhi Open Tournament 4) was held in Gandhi Ancols hall.

The SMA students were gathered in the balcony upstairs where they can overlook the stage and

also the main hall where the competitors later will gathered. I, myself, was sitting in the rightcorner of the balcony with my fellow twelve graders and some teachers like Ms. Ervina, Ms.

Hani, Ms. Nani and Ms. Meenu. Near the stage, there were some sofas where the Principal,

SMAs headmaster, supervisors, and the head of Gandhi foundation sat.

After settling down the students, the opening ceremony began with introductions for each school.

One of the committee was holding a board with the competitors school name and walking down

the hall with the team lined up and following right behind them. Their entrance was also

accompanied by some catchy and upbeat music to make the SMA crowds cheer for them. There

were some schools which didnt show up at the opening ceremony, but most of the schools were

there and making a huge crowd in the hall. The loudest cheer was gained by SMA Gandhi Ancolteam (of course they were, they ARE the host of the event).

After the introduction, the head of the committee, Alexander, gave his speech. He said that all

the committee had worked hard to make this event happened, and will work harder to end this

event successfully. He ended his speech by saying good luck to all the competitors. The welcome

speech was continued by the Principal, Mr. Dillon, who mentioned about keeping up the

sportsmanship and showing the pride of their school. Right after that, Mrs. Line, SMAs

headmistress gave a quick speech saying that the head of Gandhi foundation should open the

event now by cutting the ribbon prepared. Mr. Head of Foundation, accompanied by Ms. Line,

Mr. Dillon, Ms. Krishna, and Mr. Walter then cut the ribbon on the stage, making the hall filledwith thunderous claps from all the SMA students, the competitors, and the teachers.

The opening ceremony was continued with performances from the champions of Gandhi Got

Talent and the twin-magician from grade eleven. The first performance was a girl from grade ten

who was singing. She was the runner up in GGT and accompanied by Irsabian who owned the

first place. The show continued by the dance performed by a group from FEP who took the third

place in GGT. Then, the show was ended with an extravagant performance by the twin magician.

When the ceremony ended, Ms. Line allowed us to go home.

In the end, I must say the opening ceremony of this years tournament is quite indifferent than

the last two years. It entertains us and the competitors, and also make they know what Gandhi is

    like.
