THE SERIES: Cornell posted a home sweep over Miami in last year’s meeting, evening the all-time series at 3-3. This is the Big Red’s first trip to Oxford in program history. PUCK POINTS Miami is 6-1-1 when scoring three or more goals this season, but 0-6-1 when netting two goals or fewer. The RedHawks have allowed fewer than 20 shots on goal in five of their 14 games. Louie Belpedio is riding a career-high five-game point streak and ranks fourth among NCAA defensemen with 14 points (5g, 9a) Grant Hutton’s seven goals lead all NCAA defensemen while his six power play goals are tied for the most of all players in the country. Ryan Larkin has started 47 of the RedHawks’ 50 games in net since the start of last season and has allowed two goals or fewer in six of his last 10 outings. RedHawk defensemen have combined for 40 points (t-ninth nationally) while their 13 goals are the third-most in the country. MU’s blue line averages 2.86 points per game (fifth nationally). LAST WEEKEND Miami traveled to in-state rival Bowling Green for a non-conference series. Friday night saw six RedHawks record multiple points, led by Grant Hutton and Kiefer Sherwood’s three. MU held BGSU to a mere 14 shots on goal, but saw a 3-1 lead evaporate late in the second period. Hutton blasted home two goals 37 seconds apart to put the Red and White back on top 5-3 before intermission and a Carson Meyer empty netter sealed the deal with 17.1 seconds left in regulation. Miami started slow on Saturday, trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes on a penalty shot goal. However, Josh Melnick tied things up in the second and Louie Belpedio struck on the power play to give the RedHawks a 2-1 lead late in the third period. However, Alec Rauhauser netted a goal with an extra attacker on the ice with 37.8 seconds remaining to force overtime. While Miami had some chances to win it in the extra session, it settled for a tie, but extended its unbeaten streak to three games.
