TEAM NOTES:

FURTHER BREAKING DOWN CROSBY VS. OVECHKIN

Tonight marks the first matchup between Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin since the 2011 NHL Winter Classic on Jan. 1 at

Heinz Field.Crosby has scored goals in five of his last seven games against Washington for a total of six goals. He has collected points in 14 of his

last 15 games against the Capitals and in 19 of 21 career contests. In those 21 career games he is averaging 1.67 points per game.

Although Ovechkin scored in the first meeting this season between the teams on Oct. 13, the Penguins have limited him to just two

points –both goals –in the last five meetings between the teams. In the 11 games before this stretch, Ovechkin tallied goals in eight of

11 games (14 goals total) and recorded points in 10 of 11 games (22 total).

CROSBY NAMED NHL ‘FIRST STAR’ OF THE WEEK

Sidney Crosby’s triumphant return to the NHL last week following a 61-game injury absence earned him the NHL’s ‘First Star’ award

for the week ending Nov. 27. In four games, Crosby recorded nine points (2G-7A) and posted a league-best plus-7 rating. Included in

that total was three multiple-point games –with the first of those a four-point night (2G-2A) in his comeback game vs. NY Islanders Nov.

21.

Crosby collected his fourth multiple-point game in five games since his return with two assists at NY Rangers Nov. 29, giving him 11

points (2G-9A) in five games.

Dating back to last season, Crosby has posted multiple-points in 20 of 32 games (62.5% of his games). He has 11 two-point games; 6

three-point games; and 3 four-point games.

ON A ROLL

Crosby’s 11 points since his return on Nov. 21 are the most in the NHL during that span. He is followed closely by Evgeni Malkin, who

ranks second with nine points (4G-5A), and Pascal Dupuis, who places fourth (tied) with six points (3G-3A).

INCREDIBLE MALK

Evgeni Malkin enters tonight’s game riding a season-high five-game point streak (4G-5A). During his streak Malkin has recorded two

points in four of the five games.

Since Oct. 27, Malkin has accumulated 19 points (8G-11) over his previous 14 games, tied for the second-most points during that span

behind Toronto’s Joffrey Lupul (20 points). Malkin has recorded points in 11 of the 14 games, including seven multiple-point contests.

Malkin, whose 1.28 point per game average (minimum 10 games) ranks second in the NHL (Phil Kessel, Toronto, 1.29), leads the

Penguins this season in multiple-point games (8), power-play points (10, tied) and game-winning goals (3).

TOP SNIPER

James Neal is tied with Ottawa’s Milan Michalek for third among NHL goal scorers with 14, trailing league-leader Phil Kessel of the

Toronto Maple Leafs by two goals. Pittsburgh’s leading scorer with 25 points, Neal is on pace to establish career highs across the

board offensively. His two-point night (1G-1A) against the NY Rangers on Tuesday moved him into a tie for ninth place in the NHL

scoring race.

Neal, who has collected points in 19 of Pittsburgh’s 25 games, leads the league in both power-play goals (7) and shots (104).

SUPER DUPER

Pascal Dupuis has goals in three straight games coming into tonight. That ties his longest goal-scoring streak since a three game

streak from Feb. 7-12, 2006 (4 goals total). With a goal tonight, Dupuis will equal the longest goal-scoring streak of his career (4games; Nov. 20-25, 2006; 4 goals).

Dupuis has picked up points in eight of his last 11 games, collecting a total of 11 points (4G-7A) during that stretch. Dupuis ranks third

on the team with 20 points and leads the club with a plus-12 rating.

AMPED UP

Pittsburgh’s power play has been on a bit of a hot streak over the past five games. The Penguins have scored a power-play goal in four

of the last five games, going 4-for-19 (21.1%) during that stretch. Through the first 25 games of the season the Penguins have yet to go

more than two consecutive games without a man-advantage tally. Pittsburgh’s record this season when it scores at least one power-

play goal is 10-2-3. When the Penguins score two power-play goals in a single game they are 4-1.

James Neal, who scored on the man-advantage against the NY Rangers on Tuesday, leads the NHL with seven power-play goals.

Neal (7G-3A), Evgeni Malkin (3G-7A) and Kris Letang (1G-9A) are all tied for the team lead with 10 power-play points.

Dan Bylsma (BYLE-zmuh) has established himself as one of the most successful coaches in Penguins¹ history. In three-plus seasons behind

the bench, Bylsma has put together a 128-63-23 overall regular-season record and won the Jack Adams Award in 2010-11 as the NHL's 'Most

Outstanding Coach'. He became the third-winningest coach in franchise history when he picked up his 96th career victory on Jan. 25, 2010 vs.

NY Islanders. On Feb. 10, 2010, Bylsma became the fifth-fastest head coach to 100 NHL wins (163 games) during a 2-1 defeat of Los Angeles.

Bylsma's 26 career playoff wins are most in franchise history. During his first postseason behind the bench, Bylsma directed the Penguins to

the franchise's third Stanley Cup in 2009. In the 2009 playoffs, Bylsma¹s team clinched all 4 series on the road and twice rallied from 2-0 series

deficits (WSH in the second round; DET in the Stanley Cup Final). Dan played nine NHL seasons at right wing for LA and ANA.
