LAST WEEK:SanFranciscoplayedtwogamesovertheopeningweekendofthe2011-12season,going1-1.Friday,intheseasonopener,USFdroppeda67-59decisiontovisitingCalStateNorthridge.KatyKeatingledtheDonsinthecontestwith18pointsandfive3-pointers.SanFranciscoreboundedSundaywithan88-77winatSanJose State. Rheina Ale paced the Dons in the victory thanks to 23 points, eight rebounds and a career-high nine assists.
LOOKING AHEAD: TheDonswilltaketotheroadnextweek,embarkingonfivestraightgamesawayfromtheHilltop.USFwillopentheswingwithagamenextTuesday at UC Davis. Tip is scheduled for 4:30.

KEATING BOOSTS HER SPOT IN THE RECORD BOOK: Thankstoanattackfromdeeplastweekend,seniorKatyKeatingaspropelledherselfintoatieforthirdintheall-timeUSFrecordbookfor3-pointbasketsmade.Keating,whoenteredtheseasonwith113basketsfrombeyondthearc,talliedfive3-pointbasketsagainsttheMata-dorsandfourmoreagainsttheSpartanstolaunchherselfintoatieforthird.SheiscurrentlytiedwithAmyTouli(1989-93)forthird,and24basketsshyofsecondplace.
AZZI NOMINATED FOR NAISMITH MEMORIAL HALL OF FAME: JenniferAzzi,headcoachoftheUniversityofSanFranciscowomen’sbasketballteam,hasbeennominatedfortheNaismithMemorialBasketballHallofFame,asannouncedovertheweekend.TheClassof2012ballotmarkedthefirsttimeAzziwaseligibletobenominatedfortheHall.AzziisoneoftwoNCAADivisionIwomen’sbasketballheadcoachestobenominatedthisseason.TeresaWeatherspoon,headcoachatLouisianaTech,isinherthirdseasonwiththeLadyTechsters.In2011,Azzi’scollegiateandNationalTeamcoach,Stanford’sTaraVanDerveer,wasinductedintotheHall.TobecomeafinalistfortheHall,acandidatemustreceivesevenofninevotesfromascreeningcommittee–fiveofsevenforwomen–duringavoteinlate-Januaryorearly-February.ResultsarescheduledtobeannouncedFebruary24,2012duringAll-StarweekendinOrlando.Candidatesthatmakethecutwillbejudgedbyaseparatecommitteeinlate-Februaryorearly-Marchandneedatleast18of24votestobeinducted.Inducteeswillbeannouncedatthe2012FinalFourinNewOrleans.

DONS INK THREE FOR 2012-13: Wednesday, head coach Jennifer Azzi announced the signing of three to National Letters of Intent. Joining the Dons on the Hilltop nextfallwillbeTaylorProctor-a6-0forwardfromColoradoSprings,Colo.,ZhaneDikes-a5-9guardfromLasVegas,Nev.,andBrynStark,a6-0forwardfromLaJolla, Calif.
JENNIFER AZZI ERA: Thisseasonmarksthesecondseasonaswomen’sbasketballlegendJenniferAzziasheadcoach.Azzi,whowasnamedtothehelmoftheprograminAprilof2010,bringsanunprecedentedwealthofbasketballexperiencetotheprogram.The2009Women’sBasketballHallofFameinducteeplayedfiveseasonsintheWNBA,wasafoundingmemberoftheAmericanBasketballLeague(ABL),playedoverseasandenjoyedanAll-AmericancollegiatecareeratStanford.Internation-ally,AzziwasamemberoftheUSABasketballSeniorNationalTeamfrom1990-91and1993-98.AkeymemberoftheUnitedStatesgoldmedal-winning1996OlympicTeamthatconcludedaperfect60-0seasonwithan8-0recordduringtheOlympicGamesinAtlanta,Azziplayedon13USANationalTeams,compilingamarkof114-14.ShealsomedaledthreetimesattheWorldChampionships,claiminggoldin1998and1990,whileearningabronzein1994.

2011-12 SCHEDULE: USF is scheduled this season to play up-to-as many as 14 contests against teams that competed in the post-season a year ago. The schedule also featuresanew-formattedWestCoastConferenceschedulethatincludestwogamesagainstfirst-yearleaguememberBrighamYoung.TheGreenandGoldwillopenthe 2011-12 campaign at home against Cal State Northridge, Friday, November 11 at 3 p.m. at War Memorial Gym.
RETURNING TO THE SIDELINES: ReturningwithheadcoachJenniferAzzithisseasononthebenchwillbeassociateheadcoachKatyStedingandassistantcoachesMolly Marrin and Blair Hardiek. Steding, an Olympic gold medalist and a NCAA National Champion at Stanford University, joined the Dons in 2010 from Columbia University. Prior to coaching the Lions, Steding spent a season as an assistant coach for the Atlanta Dream of the WNBA and seven years at Warner Pacific. Hardiek came totheHilltopafterayearatSanFranciscoStateandafour-yearplayingcareeratMissouri.Marrin,whoisinherfourthyearatUSF,isenteringherninthseasonasanassistantcoachattheDivisionIlevel–allastherecruitingcoordinator.
