CENTRAL MICHIGAN-NAVY SERIES • Central Michigan is 0-2 in its all-me series with Navy, with both games being played in Annapolis. • In 2010, the Chippewas’ aempted to rally from two touchdowns down in the fourth quarter but fell short, dropping a thrilling 38-37 decision to the Midshipmen. • Quarterback Ryan Radcliff posted one of the top passing games in CMU history, finishing 36-of-58 for 394 yards with three touchdowns while wide receiver Cody Wilson caught a career-high 13 passes. • In the 2003 season finale, in the first-ever meeng between the programs, CMU fell to Navy, 63-34. CMU CELEBRATES MILITARY DAY • Central Michigan athlecs and the Chippewas football program will pay tribute to those who have served and who are currently serving our country on Friday with numerous Military Day acvies. • Units from the Michigan Naonal Guard, veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, the Gulf War, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom, and soldiers from the Wounded Warrior Project will be honored for their service and sacrifice throughout the day. HISTORIC HOME STAND • CMU begins its first four-game home stand since the 1968 season today versus Navy. • The lengthy home stretch is part of seven-game home slate in 2012, marking just the third me in the modern era that the Chippewas have hosted that many opponents in a season.

HAWKINS CONNECTS CMU AND NAVYWhenCentralMichigan andNavy clashonOctober 12 at Kelly/Shorts Stadium, onemaninparticularwillhaveloyaltiesthatlieonbothsides.WilliamHawkins has strongties to CentralMichigan,ashewaschairofthedepartmentof psychology from 1968-1979. He startedat CMU in the fall of 1963 as an assistantprofessor and was then promoted toassociate professor in 1966 and to fullprofessor in 1968. Bill and his wife, Doris,raised three children in the communityandare spending their retirement years inMountPleasant.

ButHawkinsisalsoaMidshipmenatheart,asnotonlydidhegraduatefromtheUnitedStates Naval Academy butwas a standoutmemberofthefootballteamfrom1946-48.

A star fullback, Hawkins accounted for 95points over three seasons. In 1948, theEasternIntercollegiateFootballAssociationrecognizedhistoughnessanddurabilityforcarrying the ball 75 times in a four-gamespanfor365totalyards.

In 1949, Hawkins received the Nick BascaMemorial Football League’s “OutstandingPlayer of Navy’s 1949 11” and was inattendance at the Sport Magazine FirstAnnual Awards Dinner at the Hotel Astorin New York City, which honored theoutstandingathletesof1948.
