IT’S MILLER TIME! Miller leads the league in save % (.935) and shutouts (5), and is among the top three in GAA (2.04) and wins (25). Miller has alreadymatched his career-high with 5 SO’s, placing him third on Buffalo’s all-time career list with 17 -- trailing only Martin Biron (18) andDominik Hasek (55).  MYERS CONTINUES TO GROW Rookie defenseman Tyler Myers leads all rookies in assists (20), and is 4th in rookie scoring with 26 points (5+21). TONIGHT'S GAME The Colorado Avalanche continues its three-game road trip, facing off against the Buffalo Sabres tonight at the HSBC Arena.  The Avsopened the trip with a 2-1 loss in Carolina last night.  Colorado will finish the road trip at Calgary on Monday.  The Avs have droppedtwo straight games in regulation for the first time since Nov. 18-20.  The Avalanche has not lost three consecutive games in regulationall season.  Tonight is Colorado's 27th road game of the year, tops in the NHL.  After this trip, the Avs will not have a road trip longerthan two games for the rest of the 2009-10 season.  In fact, following this road trip the Avs will play 11-of-their-next-14 at home headinginto the Olympic Break. AVALANCHE & SABRES The Avalanche and Sabres are meeting for the first and only time in 2009-10.  They also met just once last season, with Coloradopulling out a 2-1 shootout victory at Pepsi Center on Oct. 25, 2008.  Tonight is the Avalanche's first visit to Buffalo since March 7, 2007(a 3-2 Avalanche win).  In fact, this marks only the second time the Avs have played in Buffalo over the last six seasons.  TheAvalanche/Nordiques franchise 51-57-20-2 all-time against the Sabres, which includes a 7-7-2-1 record since moving to Denver in1995-96.  SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER The Avalanche is 7-1-2 on Saturdays this season, winning each of their last four Saturday night games. EAST SIDE STORY Despite dropping its last two games against Eastern Conference opponents, the Avalanche is still 8-4-1 against Eastern Conferenceteams this season, 5-2-1 on the road.  The Avs are playing their final game against a Northeast Division opponent tonight.  Colorado isa perfect 4-0-0 against the Northeast, winning road games at Boston (4-3 on Oct. 12), at Toronto (4-1 on Oct. 13), at Montreal (3-2 onOct. 15) and at Ottawa (4-3 on Dec. 30). BACK-TO-BACK Colorado is playing back-to-back games for the ninth time this season.  After last night's loss, the Avs are now 6-2-1 in the first game ofa back-to-back set and 3-4-1 in the second game.  The Avalanche will play a total of 16 back-to-back contests in 2009-10, their most-ever in a single season since moving from Quebec. DUCHENE NAMED ROOKIE OF THE MONTH FOR DECEMBER Matt Duchene was named the NHL Rookie of the Month for December.  The 18-year-old led all rookies in scoring with 13 points (fivegoals, eight assists) in 14 games during the month.  Duchene is tied for second in rookie scoring this season with 27 points, trailing onlyJohn Tavares (28).  Duchene is third among rookies in goals (11) and tied for second in assists (16).  The Haliburton, Ontario native isthe first Avalanche player to win Rookie of the Month honors since Paul Stastny in February of 2007. YOUNG GUNS No other NHL team has gotten more production from its rookies, as the Avs have a total of 78 points (27g/51a) from their first-yearplayers.  Three different Avalanche players rank among the top 10 rookies in scoring.

STASTNY NAMED TO U.S. OLYMPIC TEAM Paul Stastny was named to the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team and will represent the United States at the 2010 OlympicWinter Games held Feb. 12-28 in Vancouver.  Stastny, 24, will be making his first appearance at the Olympics.  He did compete for theUnited States at the 2007 IIHF World Championship in Moscow, where he finished as Team USA’s second-leading scorer with eightpoints (4g/4a) in seven games.  Currently in his fourth season in the NHL, Stastny is Colorado’s leading scorer with 40 points (9g/31a)in 45 games this year.  The Avalanche’s assistant captain has averaged nearly a point-per-game during his NHL career, notching 225points (72g/153a) in 238 contests.  Born in Quebec City, Stastny was raised in St. Louis, Mo., and holds dual citizenship. The Avalanche organization has had four players named to their respective 2010 Olympic teams, as Stastny joins goaltender PeterBudaj (Slovakia), defenseman Ruslan Salei (Belarus) and defense prospect Jonas Holos (Norway).  The final Olympic rosters will notbe registered until February 15. CAREER YEAR Craig Anderson has already set career highs in appearances (37), starts (37), wins (20), minutes (2212) and has tied his career bestwith three shutouts.  Anderson's 20 wins have equaled the team-leading total from last season when Peter Budaj won 20 games.  ThePark Ridge, Illinois native picked up his 20th win of the season in his 36th game on Jan. 2 at Columbus, the fastest Avalanchegoaltender to reach 20 wins since David Aebischer did it in his 34th appearance of 2005-06. PENALTY KILL The Avalanche has allowed only three power-play goals over the last eight games, killing 18-of-21 short-handed situations (85.7%). The Avs had a streak of five straight games without allowing a PPG snapped on Jan. 2 at Columbus (matched longest streak of 2009-10).  Colorado is 13-6-2 when shutting out the opposition's power-play this year and 11-9-4 when giving up at least one PPG.  POWER PLAY The Avalanche went 0-for-6 on the power play last night in Carolina, snapping a stretch of three consecutive games with a PPG (4-for-14, 28.6%).  The Avs are 12-8-4 when scoring a power-play goal this year and 12-7-2 when failing to do so.  The Avs have scored five5-on-3 goals, tied with Toronto for the most in the league. WELCOME TO THE SHOW The Avs have had six players score their first career goal this season, Matt Duchene, Chris Durno, Matt Hendricks, Ryan O'Reilly, RyanWilson and Brandon Yip.  The Avalanche has also had six different players make their NHL debut this year (Duchene, Justin Mercier,O'Reilly, Ryan Stoa, Wilson and Yip).  In fact, a total of 17 players have made their NHL debut for Colorado over the last twoseasons.  The Avalanche had 11 different players make their NHL debut in 2008-09, the most in a single season in team history.  Duchene and O'Reilly each made their NHL debut on Opening Night, making the Avalanche the first NHL team to have two 18-year-olds play in a season opener since the Winnipeg Jets in 1995-96 (Shane Doan, Jason Doig).  At 18 years, 236 days, O’Reilly becamethe youngest player in Avalanche history, and the second youngest in franchise history.  The youngest was Owen Nolan, who beatO'Reilly by two days when he made his debut with the Nordiques at the age of 18 years, 234 days in 1990-91.  O'Reilly and Ducheneare the first 18-year-olds to ever play with the Colorado Avalanche. Joe Sacco is in his first season as an NHL head coach.  He was named the fifth head coach in Avalanche history, and the 13th in franchisehistory on June 4, 2009.  Sacco has guided the Avalanche to a 24-15-6 record (54 points, .600%).  The Avs opened 10-1-2 in their first 13 games under Sacco, whichtied him for the second-best record through the first 13 games as a head coach in NHL history. Sacco, 40, spent the last two seasons as head coach of Colorado’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters.  The 2009-10campaign marks his fifth season overall with the organization, as he also spent two years as an assistant coach in the AHL. Sacco also servedas an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2009 IIHF World Championship. A fourth-round pick (71st overall) by Toronto in the 1987 Entry Draft, Sacco appeared in 738 games over his 13-year career in the NHL.  Born inMedford, Mass., Joe attended Boston University and played for the United States at the 1992 Olympics.
