The Tiffany Circle brings women philanthropists together in the work of the American Red Cross. Through their personal investment of a minimum of $10,000, Tiffany Circle members follow in the footsteps of a long line of women leaders who have worked collectively in the Red Cross to serve the American people in times of need with disaster assistance, blood collection, safety training and countless community assistance services.

The name Tiffany and the $10,000 amount have American Red Cross historical precedents. The name for Tiffany Circle honors the 1917 Louis Comfort Tiffany windows installed in our Board of Governors Hall at the Red Cross headquarters

in Washington, D.C. As an act of reconciliation and hope, a grant of $5,000 each from the Women’s Relief Corps of the North and the United Daughters of the Confederacy of the South underwrote the costs of the windows honoring the work of women in the mission.

Known as the largest secular installation by Tiffany Studios still intact, the windows portray the virtues of women engaged in the Red Cross: mercy, faith, charity, truth and fortitude. The mission of the American Red Cross continues today through the personal investments and volunteerism of Tiffany Circle women joining others across our country.

YOU ARE INVITED TO JOIN US.

“During the Tiffany Circle Summit, I was inspired to learn more about our Red Cross services for our armed forces. Not even a few weeks later, our local news highlighted scores of our military who would be landing at DFW on the Fourth of July. I was so pleased to ask Tiffany Circle members to join me at the gates when the soldiers touched American soil and we could celebrate their service to our country. Seeing the faces of our returning heroes, it will be our shared experience to remember for a lifetime.”

The TC has become a powerful international network of women joined in philanthropic diplomacy. In discovering common values, we now share friendship and commitment in the work of the Red Cross. Today as the Tiffany Circle is being initiated within numerous Red Cross Societies around the world, TC members carry on in the footsteps of amazing women as a united global force of hope by truly offering life saving change to those in times of disaster and need.

“We hear every day of fires destroying the lives of families. Our Tiffany Circle members decided to take to the streets of our community and pass out smoke detectors in underserved neighborhoods with our local fire fighters. We know we have impacted so many more lives by giving them that early alert in their own home.”

TIFFANY CIRCLE NATIONAL COUNCIL

The Tiffany Circle National Council engages twenty-one Tiffany women in developing with

program staff the strategy and direction of the Tiffany Circle and in serving as ambassadors

for the American Red Cross.

Council Members serve a three-year term and must be at least a second year Tiffany member

with active membership in her local chapter. The Tiffany Circle National Council meets three

times a year with program staff.

Council members join a Standing Committee, attend the National Summit and serve on the

Speakers’ Bureau for Tiffany Circle events.

TIFFANY CIRCLE AS AN INTERNATIONAL MOVEMENTThrough international discussions beginning in 2009 by American National Tiffany Chair Elaine Lyerly, the Tiffany Circle has now become an international movement recognizing philanthropic women committed to the mission and goals of their Red Cross Society. The Red Cross Societies of Great Britain, Canada and France have initiated their own Tiffany Circle - using the name, the history of the windows and the bracelet as a common tie. At least eight other Red Cross Societies are now examining the program to assess its potential for engaging women in the mission of the Red Cross.

This first year charm represents your commitment to the American Red Cross and the Tiffany Circle Society. The Red Cross can be found in all three Tiffany windows; on the shield and flags. The red cross symbolizes the 7 principles of the organization: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. By wearing the charm, you are now an ambassador for the American Red Cross.

Inspired by the anchor image shown on the banner in the Tiffany window on the left, this charm offers a symbol of hope and stability. Just as a ship’s anchor holds it secure and steady, you are providing a strong foundation in your community through your dedicated support of the American Red Cross.

The gold heart banner can be found in the right window. While the gold color symbolizes justice, the heart symbolizes love. The banner acts as a valiant display for these attributes. This charm is a tangible reference to your compassion for the American people and your desire to help the less fortunate through visible means.

TIFFANY & CO. CHARMS: Tiffany Circle members are given a Tiffany & Co. custom-made charm for every year they are a part of the society. Each charm is inspired by elements depicted in the Tiffany windows. Current charms include, but are not limited to, the following:

This charm was created to recognize your renewed support of the American Red Cross. The flowers can be found in the right window, overflowing from the apron of Una, the wife of the Red Cross knight and depiction of truth. The flowers represent good deeds. As you continue to share your time, talent and treasure, this charm acts as a reminder for all of the good that you have accomplished.

The Bonnie-McElveen Hunter Members receive this charm upon their commitment of $100,000 over 10 years. This colorful circle can be found in the center window, as part of the bejeweled saddle of the Red Cross Knight’s horse. The circle represents the continuation of the Tiffany Circle Society for the next generation. The colorful ‘Tiffany Jewels’ that are found in the window represent hope for a prosperous future. Initiated in 2009 by formerTiffany Circle National Co-Chair Melanie Sabelhaus in honor of her Co-Chair Bonnie McElveen-Hunter and current Chairman of the Board of Governors, the BMH Member status celebrates the honoree’s personal commitment to the American Red Cross.

THE TIFFANY CIRCLE SUMMITTiffany Circle members gather each spring in Washington, D.C. for a two-day

summit to network, learn how Tiffany Circle women are making an impact

locally, nationally and globally. Each year, members enjoy the hospitality of

very special venues and have the pleasure of hearing nationally-recognized

speakers and entertainers. Previous venues include the Italian Embassy,

the Supreme Court, and the National Museum of American History. Top

speakers include Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, President

Tadateru Konoé of the International Red Cross Federation of Red Cross

and Red Crescent Societies and the Japanese Red Cross, Lt. Commander

Kathleen Gainey, U.S. Senator Kay Hagan, Supreme Court Justice Sandra

Day O’Connor, Mrs. Alma Powell, Former Secretary of Homeland Security

Fran Townsend and His Excellency Pierre Vimont, French Ambassador to
