pleasure to extend our warmest gratitude to the stichting Oud in
Afrikaprogram in the Netherlands, for the fmancial support you have
given us in the past year.As reflected in the table on financial
report, last year you sent us fmancial support of Ksh2,631,771/=.
At the beginning ofthe year the O.I.A account had BID ofKsh
293,626/=.This money has enabled us to carry out various activities
for older persons to continueleading a dignified kind of life.As
you are aware, G &C Sisters caters for the needs of elderly
destitute and sick people.Mainly in the Western part of Kenya,
though a few of our c1ients at the OPH came fromEastern Uganda. At
present there are 114 clients including the 28 at the OPH and 86
thatreceive home based care (HBC). The main beneficiaries ofthe
O.LA project are thelatter, that is HBC, and indeed they are
grateful for that support.
Using the money you send to the O.LA project in Mundika, the
progress for the year2008 is as follows: 17 houses for elderly
people were build, 5 houses repaired, 16 toilets(pit latrines) dug
and built, 57 out of 86 older persons that own small pieces ofland
hadtheir land ploughed and all the necessary farm in-put
(fertilizer & seeds) provided. Theharvest was better for others
but not alloThis is mainly due to different types of soil
atdifferent places and also the difference in the sizes of piece of
land. The highest harvestof maize among the HBC older persons was
180kgs while the lowest harvested 40kg ofmaize. In addition to
that, most of the HBC clients were encouraged at least each one
tohave a kitchen garden where they planted their local vegetables
for their consumption.Last year there was plenty of rain as from
the Month of June up to November'2008,which was excellent for local
vegetables but ruined some other plants such as beans and
