19th November—SRC Cake Day $1.00 per slice
This week our school welcomed students, and parents of students, starting Kindergarten in 2015. Mrs
Galea organised an excellent program on Tuesday and Wednesday which included; a choir perfor-
mance, information for parents, activities for our future students, demonstration of reading skills by
Jheel Patel in KG and reflections of school experiences from Ruby Mohanarajah in 5/6S. The orienta-
tion sessions were received very positively by both parents and our new students. Thanks also to our
P&C for the afternoon tea provided and the uniform shop for their service after the sessions. This has
been a very well-organised preparation for starting school. Mrs Galea will continue the process with par-
ent interviews to collect background information on newly enrolled students over the next two weeks.
Games-a-thon fundraising is drawing to a close. Any outstanding money collected by students should
be returned to the school office as soon as possible. Mr Marscham has distributed slurpee vouchers to
all students returning sponsorship money. Prizes and rewards for those students who have raised more
than $10.00 will be presented later this month. Thank you to all families who have participated in this
fundraising effort.
Our elections for school captains and leaders in 2015 will be held on Monday, 24 November. Our school
has had outstanding school leaders this year and in previous years. They have been excellent role mod-
els for all students, as well as impressive representatives of our school. Those student who have been
nominated for the election of school leaders in 2015 are now preparing their speeches to present to stu-
dents and teachers on 24 November. Voting will be done after students and staff have heard the
speeches. The presentation of badges for school captains and school leaders for next year will be made
at our Presentation Evening on 3 December.
Our P&C met last night in the school library. Discussions included; preparation of end of year reports for
all students, new demountables for the new classes in 2015, organisation for Carols Night and the
school plan for 2015.
Have a great weekend everyone.

HR12 and HR13 at the National Wheelchair Rugby Championships
On Friday 24th October our classes went with some Year 5 and 6 students to the Wheelchair Rugby National Championships at Olympic Park.
We caught the train to Olympic Park.
We walked to the Sports Stadium and saw the wheelchair rugby games.
We had fun, it was a great day and we want to do it again next year!

My name is Helen Huynh and I am a Multi-cultural Community Liaison Officer. I will
be at Girraween Public School every Friday from 8.30am to 3.30pm for the next two years.
I am very excited to be working with the Girraween parent community. My main
role will be to present parent workshops, organise cultural activities and speak to
our parent community at various events such as Orientation Days and school func-tions. I am available for any discussion our
parents would like to have about commu-nity engagement and services that I can provide to support our parents in any way.
I am happy to have this opportunity to en-
hance the positive relationship our school
already has with our parents, particularly
those from a multicultural background.
SRC Cake Day
The SRC is holding a fundraiser on Wednesday 19th November.
Only $1 for a piece of cake. All the cakes are donated by a commercial business
that supplies cakes to large supermarkets.
For full ingredients of the cakes go to the school website. They include wheat
flour, whole egg and may contain traces of nuts.
Forest
Tall and dominating trees watch,
Every step you take,
With their camouflaging eyes,
That are filled with evil.
Every step I take on the,
Muddy ground results in,
A squeal of pain.
Dancing rays of sunlight,
Squeeze through the blanket of leaves,
That bring darkness to the gloomy forest,
Droplets of tears come from,
Crying leaves that shiver,
In the cold and moist,
Temperatures of the,
Life filled forest.
