IntroductionParker Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) fittings were intro-duced in the early 1990s to address market requirements forOEM and replacement JIS fittings. These fittings are typicallyused as hose adapters on equipment designed and/or manu-factured in Japan and Korea. Parker JIS fittings are designedwith 30° flare, 60° cone connection with BSP and metricthreads.

The JIS fittings are designed with BSPP and BSPT port endsand three different hose connection ends: T4 (30° flare, BSPP),P4 (60° cone, BSPP) and KA (30° flare, metric, (Komatsu)).

JIS fittings using the BSPP port connection are in accordancewith the JIS B2351 type “O” port connection which is commonlyused for higher pressure systems. Fig. G1 illustrates this portconnection and Table G3 lists port sizes, threads and O-ringsused.

The BSPT port end connects to either a BSPT/JIS or a BSPP/JIS port as shown in Fig. G2.

The three hose end connections (T4, P4 and KA) provide theuser the flexibility of connecting to the most common hose endsavailable as listed in Table G1.

Parker’s K4 (60° cone, BSPP) fittings conform to BS5200.These fittings are very similar to the P4 style JIS fittings,but they are not interchangeable.

Design and ConstructionShaped fittings are hot forged and machined, while straightsare manufactured from cold drawn bar stock.

Standard Material Specifications: The standard materialsused in the manufacture of JIS and K4 fittings are shown inTable G2.

Note: Upon request, JIS and K4 fittings could be manufacturedin materials other than those shown in the materials specifica-tions chart.

Threads: The standard JIS products shown in the visual indexare manufactured with thread forms listed below:

1. ISO 228-1 G, JIS B 0202, (BSPP)

2. ISO 7/1, JIS B 0203, (BSPT)

Finish: Zinc with Yellow Chromate is used on all standard steelproducts.

Application: JIS fittings are utilized as adapters that connectto BSP/JIS ports and to appropriate Parker hose fitting endconfigurations (i.e., UT, FU, MU, XU and GU). K4 fittings areutilized as adapters with D9, 92, B1, B2, G1 and G2 series hosefitting ends. K4 adpaters can also be used as port connectorsas described on page G5.

60° Cone JIS andK4 Fittings60° cone fittings are normally used forconnecting to a hose or another mat-ing fitting. They are seldom used withtube. Sealing is achieved by a linecontact between the conical surfaceof the 60° cone seat and a corre-sponding surface of the mating com-ponent.

Even though the 60° cone JIS and K4fittings have the same type of threadand seat angle, they are not identicalin other dimensions. Therefore, thereare instances when these fittings willnot function properly if the compo-nents are interchanged. The followingwill help to distinguish between thetwo.

The JIS 60° cone fittings are made inaccordance with JIS B8363 while theK4 fittings are made to British Stan-dard (BS) B5200. As can be seen fromthe limited dimensional tables below(see Tables G3 and G4), there aresome definite differences in dimen-sions. Those that are more pro-nounced are: 1) the thread length and2) the diameter of the 60° chamfer.The undercut section (area betweenthreads and hex body) also has adifferent feature. The K4 end is de-signed so it can be used as a port endwith the aid of a bonded seal (D9DT),as shown in Fig. G5.

Interchanging components betweenJIS and K4 adapters can, in somecases, lead to leakage problems, asillustrated in Fig. G6. The combinationof the correct components can createan effective seal as illustrated in Fig.G7. K4 adapters are intended to matewith HPD’s and PFD’s D9, 92, B1, B2,B4, G1 and G2 hose end configura-tions. JIS P4 adapters are intended tomate with UT and GU hose end con-figurations.

Features, Advantages & Benefits1. Compact Size – BSP port and end configurations provide

very compact connection which is especially useful in tightplaces.

2. High Temperature Capability – Metal-to-metal sealingmakes JIS and K4 fittings especially useful for low andhigh temperature applciations.

3. Availability – JIS and K4 fittings are readily available inthe market in a broad range of sizes and configurations.

4. Single Seal Point – Parker JIS and K4 fittings have onlyone seal (between the fitting seat and its mating part). Thismakes a highly reliable joint that can be easily maintained.

5. Forged Shapes – Parker JIS and K4 fittings have nobraze joints that could lead to potential leaks. Forgingsprovide higher dependability and longer life compared tomultiple component brazed constructions.

6. Dual Function – Straight K4 adapters can be used forhose end connections as well as for port end connections,with the appropriate bonded seal.
