    Babu ~.gjivan Ram All India Essay Competition Scheme

    I. Introduction

    Babu Jagjivan Ramji affectionately called Babuji was a freedom fighter and a crusader for socialjustice. He was a National leader, a great Parliamentarian, Union Minister for more than threedecades and champion of depressed classes. His main concern was upliftment ofunderprivileged and depressed classes and restoration of human dignity to millions ofuntouchables of the society.

    Babu Jagjivan Ram National Foundation was established on 14th March, 2008 as an AutonomousOrganization under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, in the memory of BabuJagjivan Ramji, to propagate his ideology and philosophy of life and missions, his vision tocreate a casteless and classless society, eradication of untouchabality and continuous struggle forachieving social justice for the dalits, downtrodden and weaker sections.

    2. Objectives

    The aim of the Babu Jagjivan Ram All India Essay Competition is to encourage writing on socialissues, among the students ofSchools/CollegesiUniversitiesi Institutions and arouse their interestin Bahu Jagjivan Ram's thoughts on fundamental social issues like social justice, removal ofuntouchability, caste based prejudices, removal of inequality and discrimination, socialdemocracy, national integration, communal harmony etc. The students are expected to analiseand suggest ways and means to establish a stronger social democracy and a just society.

    3. Freguency

    Babu Jagjivan Ram All India Essay competition for students of recognized SchoolslColleges/Universities/ Institutions shall be held every year.

    4. Eligibility

    Babu Jagjivan Ram All India Essay Competition is for Students of recognized(a) Schools (Secondary& Senior Secondary Schools i.e. from class 9th to I ih) and(b) CollegeslUniversities/Institutions.

    5. Topics

    The topics of Essay shall be selected every year from the themes based on Babu Jagjivan Ram'sthought on social justice, removal of inequality and discrimination, ameliorating the conditionsof weaker sections of society, removal of untouchability, caste based prejudices, disparities,equality of opportunity, social democracy etc.

    The essays may be written in Hindi and English.

    7. Prizes -Prizes to the over- all best three entries in Hindi & English are as under;-

    Total Flnancial Implicathm for prize money are= (Schools + Colleges/ Universities/Institutions) ==(1.00 Lakh + 3.50 Lakh) = Rs. 4.50 lakh.

    8. Publicity to the Scheme:-

    (a) Adequate Publicity to the Scheme through Print and Electronic Media(b) An advertisement in this regard would be published in major National Newspapers.(c) Publicity through the website of the Foundation.

  • · ,(d) Members o'fthe ~Body ofBabu Jagjivan Ram National Foundation would also be

    requested to-give due publicity to this scheme.(e) Letters will be written to the state welfare ministers! departments requesting them to further

    request all the centnl and state universities in their state 10 circulate the scheme among theirstudents.

    (f) The services of district education officers may also be taken through the stale governments fortaking the scheme to the school in the district.

    (g) The UGC, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KYS), Nevodaya Vidyaiaya Samiu (NVS) etc. willbe requested to circulate the scheme among their students.

    9. Terms & ConditiODS:-

    (i) There is no entry fee.(ii) The Essay shall be of 3500 word for students of college! Universities/Institutions and 2000

    words for students of schools.(iii) One cotty from each student.(iv) Each participant shall submit a certificate issued by his school! eollege/ universities certified that

    he/she is a bonafide student.(v) The participants shall submit a certificate that the essay is their original work.(vi) Participant should send two typed / neatly handwritten copies ( one original and other photocopy)

    of the essay. One copy should have his! her name address and topic with his signature whilethe other copy need not show any such particulars.

    (vii) The rules and regulations of the competition are binding.(viii) No correspondence will be entertained in this regard.(Ix) Plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.[x] Relevant information such as name, email address, postal address, institutions, course and year of

    study etc. of the student participant should be indicated in the covering letter.(xi) Babu Jagjivan Ram National Foundation reserve the right to accept and reject the entries that do

    not conform to this guidelines and the decision of the Foundation will be final.(xii) All entries received for competition will become the property ofBabu Jagjiven Ram National

    Foundation. The winning entries may be considered for publication in a book form by thefoundation.

    10. Evaluation:-

    (i) The essay will be evaluated by the panel of judges set up by the Babu Jagjivan Ram NationalFound ••ticn fe-i the selection of }in.::..: winning carry or 3~ •.: Jcgjiva» Ram Chair wilt also berequested for evaluation of essay. An amount of Rs. I lakh would be paid for evaluation ofthe essays.

    (U) The essay will be evaluated on the basis of contents, analysis/ interpretation, presentation andwriting skills as per the foHowing provisions:-

    11. Announcement or Prizes

    The list of winners will be published on the website of the Foundation and the winners will beintimated by post.

    (i) The Prize money will be sent to winners in the form of an account payee Bank Draft byregistered post through the concerned recognized schools! col1eges/ universities! institutions.

    (ii) In case the Foundation invites the winners for a felicitation at Delhi. The winner and oneescort will be paid actual fare by sleeper class train! bus from their place of study or from thehometown (both ways). A sum of Rs. 8,000/- @ Rs. 4,000/- each (on an average) for the winnersstudents and escort will be earmarked for their travelling expenses, boarding and lodging.
