INNOVATION OF THE YEAR AWARD
Wednesday, March 26, 2014 2 p.m. Administration building - 2nd floor
You are invited to attend the Innovation of the Year Award reception honoring the Florissant Valley nomi-
nees. Each year, St. Louis Community College participates in the Innovation of the Year award process.
Initially, an Innovation of the Year will be selected at each campus, at the Cosand Center, and, if there are
innovations that cross the district in application and usage, a district-wide award. The award winners from
each category will then compete for St. Louis Community College’s overall Innovation of the Year, and the
resulting League plaque and recognition.
The League for Innovation established the Innovation of the Year Award to recognize League college indi-
vidual staff members or teams who have designed and implemented a significant innovation. Only one
award is presented to each of the League member districts. The League also provides certificates for col-
lege innovations that are runners-up in multi-campus district competitions. Light refreshments will be
served.

GET FIT - In Case You Missed the Memo
“I had no idea!” We’ve all been there – most likely on both the receiving and providing ends of the spec-trum. Despite extensive advertising, some of us just miss the memo regarding events on campus. We walk by the posted fliers twenty times a day or read The Forum every time it arrives. Yet somehow, we’re still unaware of many of the opportunities available for students, faculty and staff on our campus. Listed below are some of the current health and wellness related promotions at STLCC-Florissant Valley.
Step It Up Walking Challenge – This challenge typically occurs at least once a semester. It offers fac-ulty and staff the opportunity to form teams and compete against one another for steps walked accord-ing to pedometers worn by participants. The most recent challenge ended on March 5. Be on the look-out for your next opportunity to participate. You can earn 35 Vitality bucks per week!
Indoor Rowing Challenge - STLCC faculty and staff can join the indoor rowing team and compete as a college in the World Erg Rowing Challenge. Participants can log meters rowed using the rowing ma-chines available on campus or elsewhere. Sign-ups are happening now for the competition that runs from March 15 to April 15. You can also earn Vitality bucks based on the number of meters rowed!
Contact Anthony Clark for more info or to sign up.

Earl E. Bird
Don’t let your class roster come up with goose eggs! Leverage the Earl E. Bird campaign, a multimedia enrollment campaign for current students, to fill your classes early. Earl E. Bird appeared right before spring break on campus-es to remind students to see an advisor or do an online degree audit so they are ready when fall registration opens.
Deliver that message to your students in an engaging way by clicking on Earl’s picture on the STLCC homepage—www.stlcc.edu.
And showing his short (1:47 minute) video to your classes before you begin instruction. This week you will also find an icon on your classroom computer desktop that will take you directly to the video.
And here’s more good news to share with your students: Current students who are registered and pay (or have made financial arrangements) by May 9 are eligible to win their choice of an iPad or $500 book scholarship. So help your students watch and win!

Their special events project included an application, presentation and skit for The Nook. The Nook is a “Grab 'n' Go" concession stand in the cafeteria that opens once the cafeteria closes.
“The purpose of The Nook is to offer all of our student organizations and clubs an opportunity to raise funds to match their Student Activities Budget Committee allocation for approved con-ferences and leadership opportunities,” said Gwen Nixon, campus life manager at STLCC-Florissant Valley. “The Nook is an excellent opportunity for them to provide a valuable service to our evening student population.”
Nixon said the benefits of The Nook have paid off huge dividends financially and professional-ly. The clubs are working together for a common goal. They also are learning how to run a
