The Radnor Hunt Concours

d’Elegance

Thorncroft is once again honored to be the beneficiary of this year’s Radnor Hunt Concours d’Elegance, held on the grounds of the Radnor Hunt Club in Malvern, on September 7, 8 and 9.

An exciting weekend for both the automotive and equestrian enthusiast, the Concours offers three days of action-packed fun, with the Friday evening BBQ and performance by Thorncroft’s drill team, the Mainstreamers kicking off the event.

Saturday morning’s Road Rally will guide participants through scenic Chester County, finishing with a delicious catered lunch. Saturday evening’s Black Tie Gala, Silent Auction and Art Show Preview is the sneak-peak to the must-see main event on Sunday, the Concours d’Elegance.

Mike Tillson, Thorncroft Board Member and Chairman of the Concours shared with us his excitement for this year’s lineup.

“This year’s event will feature the elegance and sport of Rolls Royce and Bentley, the style and power of European Style/American Power, and Fastbacks. We also have an outstanding motorcycle field planned with the Indian, Italian motorcycles and Superbikes classes. The 2018 event is our twenty-second event and our tenth consecutive year that we will have a display of vintage horse-drawn coaches and carriages that illustrate the evolution of transportation, something no other Concours offers.”

Corporate volunteerism, or days of service, have become an employee engagement tool for many companies in America. These set times when employees are encouraged to participate as volunteers for a non-profit organization, community program, or company event, provide company paid time for their employees to give back. While this trend of philanthropy has caught on for all age groups, it is of particular importance to millennials, whose checklist of factors in their job searches now includes opportunities for volunteering led by their place of work.

Thorncroft has been very fortunate to be the recipient of many local companies who wish to schedule a day or two of service at the Farm. For those who have visited Thorncroft or any other farm, you have witnessed firsthand that there is always a task to complete and a project to start! Our gratitude for our day of service volunteers goes beyond the page as we cannot achieve our mission without their help. Our guests come ready to work and are willing to tackle tasks that on a daily basis, we may not have the time to accomplish. Our volunteers are always eager to do what is asked and willing to work in all sorts of weather. We

are very fortunate to have groups come back year after year at specific times to help us prepare for events like the Therapeutic

Riders Division of the Devon Horse Show in the spring and the Lobster Bake in the fall.

At Thorncroft, one of the most significant benefits we receive through these days of service is sharing our mission with others.

The volunteers observe firsthand the transformational change our therapeutic horseback riding creates for the children and adults we serve.

Through these days of service, we can continue to share our passion for serving others in an environment of respect, love, and inclusion. Thank you to the many

groups and individuals who shared their time and talents with us this year. We appreciate you more than words can say!

Special thanks to Shire, Vanguard, The Shipley School, BB&T, Villa Maria Academy, PECO, BHHS Fox & Roach, Comcast, Pepper Hamilton, Armstrong Worthington, Johnson & Johnson, Friends Central, The Crefield School, St. Elizabeth’s Parish, Montgomery County 4-H, and others who spent a day on the Farm this year. (Our apologies for any companies that have been omitted).

Volunteering on the Farm for a Day

Thorncroft to Host Inaugural 5K Trail Run!

Start your Labor Day weekend by participating in our inaugural 5K Trail Run for Thorncroft presented by Jane C. MacElree, Ann Hill, and Hilltop Farm Inc. Join us, and run, walk, or wheel along our riding paths and through the fields where our horses graze. Gather at Thorncroft Equestrian Center and complete a 5K trail run, 1-mile walk, or wheel around the accessible paths.

We are excited to partner with the community and welcome new friends to visit and learn about the fantastic things that happen each day at Thorncroft. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the care of our horses, the unsung heroes in all we do!

Interested participants can register online at bit.ly/run4thorncroft. All events are just $25 through August 16, 2018, after which the fee will increase to $30. (The first 200 registrants will receive a race t-shirt.)

Registration for all events will be at 5:30 p.m. with the 5K trail run kicking off at 6:30 p.m. The walk begins at 6:40 p.m. and the wheel at 6:50 p.m. All are welcome to join us at our post-race festivities starting at 7:15 p.m. at Thorncroft. Dos Gringos Mexican Kitchen will be sending a food truck along with Rita’s Water Ice. Registered participants who are over the age of 21 will be treated to a beer, courtesy of Stable 12 Brewing Company of Phoenixville.

Chester Country Running Store will be managing the timing of the race. Join us for this new opportunity to build community and celebrate our horse heroes. We look forward to seeing you on the Farm on Thursday, August 30!

As we come to the close of yet another year, Thorncroft sends to every one of you our most sincere appreciation for your stewardship of the Farm. 50 years ago this spring, Saunders walked into the arena with his first horse and rider. Since then thousands of riders, hundreds of staff members, horses and volunteers later, we continue his mission every day, to serve those in our community regardless of their ability. We are honored every day to continue his work and thank you again for your passion, your support and your friendship.

Thanksfrom the Hay Barn
