Broome Port Authority manages a ‘services model’ seaport:

DEFINITION: ‘…the port authority offers the complete range of services required for the functioning of the seaport system. The port owns, maintains, and operates every available asset (fixed and mobile), and cargo handling activities are executed by labour employed directly by the port authority’.

The Indonesian Confrontation of the early 1960’s prompted the Menzies Government to invest in North West Australia infrastructure – Broome benefitted with a new wharf, that exists today.
