Middle School Institute of Technology and Engineering (MIT-e)

MIT-e is a rigorous magnet program providing students with opportunities to explore science, technology, en-gineering and math in a project-based, hands-on way. MIT-e introduces students to STEM careers and allows students to collaborate with STEM experts and peers in a rich learning environment. The learning experiences offered by MIT-e make students academically competi-tive for the 21st Century. Examples of MIT-e courses:

• MIT-e I: Pre-Algebra, earth/environmental sci-ence, GIS (Geographical Information System), plate tectonics, invasive species, and pollution/water flow.

• MIT-e II: Algebra (H.S. credit), physical science, Excel Data, Vernier software, drafting, Sketch Up, and GIS graphical analysis.

• MIT-e III: Geometry (H.S. credit), biology (H.S. credit), GIS, composting, greenhouse, biotech (Electrophoresis Forensics, DNA, GK-12), and multimedia.

Puente Language AcademyIn this trilingual program for grades 6-8, students study in either Navajo or Spanish. This program is a con-tinuation of the Puente de Hózhó K-5 magnet school.

Alpine Leadership Academies

Students work with a rigorous, integrated curricu-lum that is supported and reinforced in their class-es. Coursework for Alpine concentrates on balancing outdoor expeditions and community service projects in order to allow students to practice hands-on, expe-riential learning in wilderness areas as well as work-ing to improve the community of Flagstaff. Alpine’s five pillars are inquiry, community, stewardship, criti-cal thinking, and reflection. Alpine Preparatory Acad-emy is open to 6th grade students. Alpine Leader-ship Academy is open for 7th and 8th grade students.

Pre AP AcademyHonors Pre-AP Academy is an academic program that prepares students for the rigor of high school Advanced Placement classes. The rich course mate-rial, classroom discussions, and demanding assign-ments will help students develop the knowledge and critical thinking skills demanded in the 21st century.
