FURTHER SEEMS FOREVER – TOUR PRANKS

In this Tour Pranks segment, Chad Neptune of the indie rock band, Further Seems Forever, shares some pranks that have happened on tour. You can check out the feature, after the break.

So life on the road requires a great sense of humor and incredibly thick skin. Pulling pranks on fellow band mates and crew is right of passage and necessity. In our time in FSF, we must have pranked each other in various manors over the years. Some very simple (but effective) like hiding someone’s valuables or a running into a truck stop bathroom and peeing on the toilet seat so one certain guitar player couldn’t go #2. There was the time our merch guy wrapped himself in toilet paper and wondered the halls of our hotel and proceeded to wake up our drummer to no avail. The Prank I am going to tell you about may, however, be one you just had to be there for, but I will try and explain it anyway. It was a cold winter night I believe the night before we were supposed to meet our bus before Warped Tour in Minneapolis. We were staying with Jason’s parents and our tour manager Chuck “Chooch” Andrews was absolutely exhausted from dealing with the likes of us all day. Being that we had the day off what were we to do but pick on the guy who was sleeping? Well, Jason’s little sister had a huge collection of the most creepy dolls you have ever seen. There must have been like 30 of these things. So, we took these dolls and stood them up all around Chooch like 3 rows deep. It really looked like there was some weird doll ceremony going on. We even hung them over his head. This was before camera phones and all that cool technology. So we had a video camera and we were trying to film a video intro and this whole elaborate thing, but we could not stop laughing. The whole time Chooch is just passed out. Then, while we were trying to film, Chooch rolled over and saw the dolls and jumped out of his skin. To this day, that image still brings a smile to my face. http://www.digitaltourbus.com/features/further-seems-forever/ - .VvBlOseof0t

Further Seems Forever headlining For the Love Music Festival

In the first nine years of its existence, the South Florida indie-rock band Further Seems Forever married and divorced three lead singers. While some breakups were amicable, others were bitter. For the second vocalist, Jason Gleason, the breakup was rough. He joined the band at age 19, something he describes as a dream come true. Under his lead, in 2003, Further Seems Forever released their second album, "How To Start a Fire," which sold more than 100,000 copies. They toured with New Found Glory and Hot Rod Circuit. Yet Gleason left the band in early 2004. "We all spent too much time with each other, packed in a box, and I was considerably younger, and all of us were considerably younger, and maybe we didn't do the right thing all the time," recalls Gleason, who is now 33 and living in New Jersey. "I'm sure I annoyed the crap out of them as much as they annoyed me at the time." Nearly 13 years later, Gleason has reunited with Further Seems Forever for a tour on which the band performs songs from "How To Start a Fire." "I think we all regretted not really talking about it," he says. "But I think those regrets and those looking back on things is sort of what brought us together, too. It Started with repairing the relationship and becoming friends again." On Saturday, March 12, Further Seems Forever will headline For the Love Music Festival, taking place in FAT Village in Fort Lauderdale. The festival will feature more than 30 bands and musicians, including Jacob Jeffries, MewithoutYou and Civilian, as well as food trucks and arts-and-crafts vendors. "This is a showcase for the bands," says Sara Shake, a festival co-founder. "Some of these people have been around for a long time, and others are just starting out." For Further Seems Forever, this will be only their third show since reuniting with Gleason, and the first one in South Florida. "We're actually playing the songs of the album, but in a set list that we may have played back in the day," Gleason says. Further Seems Forever also reunited with its first lead singer, Chris Carrabba, in 2010. Carrabba, best known as the leader of Dashboard Confessional, is currently on break from the band while Gleason is on tour. "I think people can expect the same thing that we always gave," Gleason says. "I came down and rehearsed in January, and it was kind of like we picked up right where we left off, just letting the music speak for itself and rock 'n' roll." For the Love Music Festival will take place Saturday, March 12, in FAT Village, 541 NW First Ave, in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $35, or $125 for VIP, which includes parking. JASON GLEASON TALKS FURTHER SEEMS FOREVER REUNION

In 2001, an emo-tinged indie-rock band named Further Seems Forever released one of the most influential records of the era, The Moon Is Down. That LP almost immediately garnered the group a ton of fans, including Jason Gleason, who not only quickly learned that FSF was losing their original vocalist, Chris Carraba, to Dashboard Confessional, but that he would be taking over the role. Shortly after, he would contribute to the release of his favorite band’s best record (in my opinion), How To Start A Fire. I can’t even remember when I first encountered How To Start A Fire. Its art made a huge impression on me the first time I saw it, and despite not liking The Moon Is Down as much as the rest of my friends, How To Start A Fire’s dark, emotional imagery remained in my subconscious for years, nagging at me. It wasn’t until much later (after Gleason had left the group due to contentious internal disputes, was replaced by the late Jon Bunch of Sense Field, and the band eventually split) that I revisited this deeply beautiful piece of art for its music. http://lamusicblog.com/2016/03/interview/jason-gleason-talks-further-seems-forever-reunion/

JASON GLEASON ON FOR THE LOVE FEST AND REMEMBERING JON BUNCH

Pompano Beach's Further Seems Forever is probably best-known as the band Chris Carrabba fronted before he found breakout success with Dashboard Confessional. But the emo outfit's strongest, most focused work came when powerhouse second frontman Jason Gleason took up the reins from Carrabba in 2000, helming the group for the next four years. While the band has split and reconvened multiple times since, save an occasional cameo appearance, it's never been with Gleason. That will change this week as Further Seems Forever picks up where it left off for the first time in more than a decade with Gleason at the fore. The band's headlining set at Fort Lauderdale's For the Love Festival on March 12 is the focal point of a short trek in celebration of the Gleason-helmed How to Start a Fire album, with a planned set list of album highlights, favorites from pre-Gleason album The Moon Is Down, and covers. "I think the tour serves two purposes for us," says Gleason. "One, it's about being able to give the people who were fans of this record an opportunity to see it again or see us for the first time. And then, if I'm being honest, it's kind of selfish — we want to do it!" If there was ever a time for Further Seems Forever to do something selfish, it's now. On January 31, the band's third frontman, Jon Bunch (also of Sense Field and, more recently, War Generation), passed away unexpectedly, a loss Gleason calls "devastating." Though Bunch replaced Gleason at the band's helm following its contentious 2004 split, Gleason has nothing but kind words for the man he calls "totally awesome and unique and special." "I remember seeing Sense Field when I was 15," Gleason recalls. "It was at this tiny coffee shop in Minneapolis called the Foxfire. He sat at the merch booth afterward and was talking to everybody. I approached him, and I remember him asking about me. Jon had this innate ability to make everyone feel like they were the only person in the room." The loss has had Gleason feeling reflective and more grateful than ever for what Further Seems Forever still has. "To have the opportunity to go back out and share ourselves again is special. I think we all understand the gravity of that. Rehearsals have been all smiles, you know? Everyone

Page 6: Further Seems Forever 'How To Start A Fire' Tour Press Pack

is very much looking forward to having the opportunity to do this... We want to play the songs again and get together and have that — I'll call it a 'last ride' — but who knows?"

While Gleason is happy to chat about his two other currently unnamed other musical projects — one focused on "really simple and natural pop melodies," the other an "Afro-pop, funk, soul, blues, kinda out-there thing" — he demurs at the possibility of more work on Further Seems Forever. No matter of being coy, he seems genuinely uncertain about what the band's future may hold. "Did anyone ever think I'd be doing a tour with them in the first place?" he wonders aloud. So instead of worrying about the future, the members of Further Seems Forever are putting their collective heads down and getting to work, just as they always have. "We were never the band on tour that had smoke and lights and a laser show," notes Gleason. "It was that no-frills attitude. On the last day of rehearsal for this tour, we were actively discussing whether to have a small vinyl backdrop that says 'Further Seems Forever' on it, so people knew who we were. It was cool, because everybody's still in that mentality — let's just go rock and let the music speak for itself." With Further Seems Forever, MeWithoutYou, and more. Noon Saturday, March 12, at C&I Studios, Next Door, and the Garden, 541 NW First Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets start at $35 plus fees via eventbrite.com. Further Seems Forever Reunite For How To Start A Fire

The history of alt-rock band Further Seems Forever is like looking at a contorted family tree. Lead singer Chris Carrabba left the band to start Dashboard Confessional, then 19-year old Jason Gleason stepped in for one album before leaving with a bad taste in his mouth. Sense Field vocalist Jon Bunch took over until 2006 when the band broke up. Then Carrabba came back for an album and now Gleason is back for a set of reunion shows including The Roxy Mar. 18 and The Self Help Festival Mar. 19. Confused? That’s understandable. Here’s the need-to-know information. Gleason’s time in the band was short, but the album it yielded, 2003’s How To Start A Fire, is widely considered the band’s best. Also, Gleason left the band on less than favorable terms, blaming the split on “completely irrational behavior on a daily basis. Mistrust. Fights. Anger. Jealousy. A very unhealthy relationship” in a post-breakup interview. In other words, his return after over a decade is not only something fans have been hoping for, but a welcome surprise. So what changed from the time Gleason spoke those bitter words to now? “We got older,” Gleason admitted. “Nobody really wants to sit around with all that frustration and anger forever. We took a long break from each other, which I think was good, and started burying the hatchet, and became friendly and close on a personal level again. It takes two to tango, in our case it took five. I think it was a lot to do with how much we were working, which happens with a lot of bands. You spend that much time with people in very close proximity, that kind of stuff is bound to come up. We’re older, we’re wiser, we’re back together, bygones are bygones.” The band will be playing How To Start A Fire in its entirety, but also songs from The Moon Is Down and Hide Nothing. Gleason, who has continued with various projects in his time away from the band is confident they can deliver. “I would assume people are expecting it to be as good as it was back in the day, and I think we’re definitely prepared to do that” Gleason said. “It’s just like riding a bike. It was funny, we went

Page 8: Further Seems Forever 'How To Start A Fire' Tour Press Pack

down for rehearsals in January, and actually, it was kind of like the audition back when I was 19 years old. Everything kind of clicked, and we’re ready to roll. It’s almost like we just picked up again after the last tour.” “Time waits for no one,” Gleason warns on How To Start A Fire’s “The Deep”, an eternal truth that probably strikes an even greater chord with him now than when he was a teenager writing and singing those same words. After all this time does the album still resonate with him? “The core issues I was writing about I still think about and deal with as a human,” Gleason said. “I think really with any music, whether it’s my own music or music that I love from other artists, things change over time and you get to listen to lyrics in different ways at different points. “Last night on my drive home from work I listened to Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew, which is one of my favorite jazz albums. “I just sat in my car for, I don’t know, 25 minutes when I got home, just listening to “John McLaughlin.” There’s this interplay between the snare and the guitar that’s going on the whole tune that I never realized before. That’s kind of the beauty of music. It can constantly be changing and it’s different for anybody that listens to it.” There was one dark cloud for Further Seems Forever in light of this reunion, the unexpected passing of former frontman Jon Bunch. An event that made Gleason’s reconciliation with the band all the more poignant. “It was a devastating hit, nobody expected it,” Gleason said. “We had planned, obviously, to have Jon up on stage and sing some songs when we came to L.A. I definitely feel a sense of duty now to convey his legacy and how he saw the songs. Singing Jon’s songs, there’s definitely a pressure there to keep it real. I always remember thinking Jon was just like this larger-than-life rock God thing. He was a really great guy, he’s sorely missed, and we’re very happy he’s part of the Forever legacy, and he’ll still be able to live through his records.” As far as Gleason’s own legacy in the band, the future is uncertain. When asked about continuing on with Further Seems Forever after these reunion shows, Gleason is hesitant. “I guess I’ll answer that by saying, did anybody think that we were gonna ever play these shows in the first place? We’re all older, we have our lives and jobs and families. I can’t foresee the band getting back together and going out on tour full time again. But, I can totally see us writing another jam or two and recording it, maybe playing some one-off shows here and there. “What we’re most likely going to be doing is some more dates in the summer, hit some of the rest of the spots in the country that we’re not hitting. That’s pretty open-ended right? [laughs] We’ll leave it there.” http://concertguidelive.com/2016/02/featured/further-seems-forever-the-roxy/

Interview: Further Seems Forever Talk About ‘How To Start A Fire’ This interview takes place just over a month before the front man will embark on a nine-day tour alongside his Further Seems Forever band mates to perform How To Start a Fire in its entirety, a record that redefines lightening in a bottle. Jason Gleason was only 19 when fate came calling in the form of FSF, now left without a front man after The Moon is Down vocalist Chris Carrabba left to pursue Dashboard Confessional. Affinity, Gleason’s hardcore band, had just called it quits which left the singer open for auditions in other outfits. The band even played a joke on the singer by saying he didn’t make the cut but could come on board as a roadie, Gleason even accepted the fake offer! Gleason spent a year walking the fine line between preserving what the original lineup had built and what his eventual personal contribution to the FSF canon would be. Just days before stepping into the studio in 2002 to record How to Start a Fire, Gleason rewrote every song to avoid sounding like an imitation of the man he replaced. He was faced with a tall order and not one that FSF fans had confidence the 19 year old could pull off. “The first time I saw Further Seems Forever with Jason Gleason singing was at Cornerstone Music Festival in 2003. Chris Carrabba had just left the band and I think it was Jason’s first tour with the band. I was such a huge fan of Chris Carrabba that I wanted to not like Jason, but when he started singing I thought to myself, ‘holy crap this dude is good and I cannot wait for hear the next FSF album’. Needless to say they did not let me down, How To Start A Fire is hands down one of my all time favorite records to this day. I can’t tell you how many times I tried to use a drum pattern from that band in a Go Radio song.” – Steve Kopacz (Go Radio) After his departure the following year, Gleason went on to perform in ActionReaction and Old Wives. Both acts were far cries from his contribution to Further Seems Forever and saw little commercial success. FSF went on to release Hide Nothing with former Sense Field vocalist Jon Bunch in 2004 before calling it quits in 2007. The band briefly reformed in 2013, with original vocalist Chris Carrabba to release Penny Black. Though fans were thrilled to see the original lineup back together, there is no accounting for nostalgia. Now, 13 years ago to the week, we catch Gleason as he is leaving dinner at his own restaurant, The Pig and the Prince in Montclair, New Jersey. Warning us that he is long-winded in his responses, Gleason is more than elated to bring back the magic of a record that means so much to so many. The tour kicks off next month with Gleason expressing nothing but pure joy and gratitude for the chance to share the stage with his friends once again. Let’s start broad, why do you think How To Start a Fire is cited as such an influential record? That’s a loaded question. I’ve done a lot of reflecting about it and I’ve been trying to figure it out for the last 13 years. That’s not to say that I don’t revere the record and hold it in a very special place, but the conversation when we came back together was “Should we do this? Does anybody

Page 10: Further Seems Forever 'How To Start A Fire' Tour Press Pack

like this? Should we be rehashing this whole thing?” Obviously I love the band and we’ve always sort of talked about maybe playing a secret show, but we were just testing the waters with some friends of ours who were connected with the band back in the day, and are still very connected in the industry, and it turned out that there was quite a demand for it. It was flatting and I’ll give you a backstory; I joined the band at 19 years old with a dream and a dollar in my pocket. The Moon is Down was just a huge record for me at that age and I had an opportunity to front a band that was one of my favorite bands. I knew what I was capable of, or I thought I knew, and it was just a huge fantastic opportunity. It wasn’t really something I was putting a whole lot of adult business thought into, I just knew that this was what I always wanted to do. I think we created something that was really special and I know that we touched a lot of people with it. I always felt very humbled and fortunate that even over the course of these last 13 years that we would get Facebook messages weekly from people saying how much the record meant to them, people who went to prison or “my brother was killed in a car accident” etc. There were so many stories about the record getting them through hard times. I think it just really speaks to the sort of innocent nature that we made the record under. We weren’t trying to do something as much as we just did something. I always enjoyed that even though FSF had a sound (no pun intended), what we were able to create was something that sounded like what it sounded like, there wasn’t a lot of pretense behind it. Everyone else in the band came at music with that mindset as well and I think that’s why it resonated with a lot of people, because it’s very cheerful, honest, open music. Those guys are all really great musicians who just make the sound of their souls, as stupid as that sounds. Was there any hesitation to join because you were such a big fan of the band? There was hesitation but it wasn’t worrying about screwing it up. I was living in this house where my room was just covered in little scraps of paper with lyrics on them. My hesitation was respecting what Chris had done in the band, because I loved and admired that. I had done a full rewrite of the album, save for maybe “The Sound” which kind of kept its first draft. I thought I would do all this stuff that sounds like Chris and everyone is gonna’ love it. Then I had like a midlife crisis at 19, having that notion of “But I’m not Chris and this is my opportunity to do my thing”. Almost every song on the record was re-written within a week to five days of going into the studio to track. I had my rough drafts that sounded really cool and sounded like Chris, even though I don’t sound anything like him in terms of my voice, but kind of having that mentality of taking over for Chris rather than “This is my band now”. That was my hesitation rather than “Oh, I don’t want to do this because I don’t want to destroy the legacy”, it was more like “Maybe I don’t want to do this because it doesn’t sound anything like me”. “Further Seems Forever’s “How to Start a Fire,” was one of my favorite records in high school. Jason Gleason added an element to the band that struck a profound chord. His lyricism took one of the underground’s greatest acts to a new level of sincerity and open-heartedness. Every era of FSF has helped shape Hotel Books musically, lyrically and most of, with work ethics. ‘The Sound’ and ‘Pride War’ were the soundtrack to my angst and heartbreak as a kid.” – Cam Smith (Hotel Books) Further Seems Forever - How To Start A Fire At what state in the writing process was Fire when you came on board? Did the guys have skeletons of songs or was it pretty much a blank slate? I actually had the fine pleasure and displeasure of playing Chris’ songs for a little over a year before How to Start a Fire came out. The only reason I say displeasure is because I was singing

Page 11: Further Seems Forever 'How To Start A Fire' Tour Press Pack

someone else’s songs. It was pleasurable because I loved the record and I felt I was able to put my own spin on a lot of the tunes. Obviously I was very much wanting to sing my own songs. It was a blank slate, it wasn’t anything they had prepared. We had done about a year touring under The Moon is Down and we didn’t even work in any of the songs. We took a break and said we were going to write a record. We sent out a notice trying to get some musicians to give quotes on how this record influenced them or stories they might have surrounding it at the time and I’d say one of the central themes was that people were so scared of this band getting a new singer after having fallen in love with the first record. Some people were saying they really didn’t want to like you but as soon as they saw you perform you just easily won everyone over. That’s gotta be nice to hear. It is super cool and reaffirming. I got goose bumps when you said that (laughs). It wasn’t ever that anyone vocalized that to me but it was Chris Carrabba, he’s like the golden child, as he should be. He’s a great songwriter with a great voice and was sort of the pied piper of the generation of musicians at the time. I understood the gravity of what I was embarking on. As a complete disservice to my own ego, as soon as the record came out I perused AbsolutePunk and all the message boards so I knew what people were thinking and feeling. To be honest, I was feeling it too, but I was extremely proud of the album and I still am. What I said before about it being a pleasure and displeasure, there’s another aspect too where it’s like I was fortunate enough to understand the aesthetic of the band so intimately because I was able to sing Chris’ tunes for a year before working on making it mine. That was obviously a good time to say the least. “It’s a sigh of relief when the greatest vocalist can be replaced and your favorite band can match their first album. How To Start a Fire is the heaviest emo album of all time.” – Chris Ratzlaff (Fallstar) Can you share a bit about your headspace while you were writing this record? I tried to write a bunch of tunes that sounded like Chris but my main focus became making a record that was truthful. At the time I had long black hair and plugged earrings and black t-shirts and chain wallets and everything else but I just wanted to make something true to myself without a whole lot of pretense behind it. The first through the fifth of January I went down to Ft. Lauderdale to rehearse to shake the rust off and we got into a discussion about whether or not should we have a backdrop. In the age of live music today, not to sound old and jaded, but where it’s almost 100% smoke and mirrors and a light show, thirteen years later we’re still having a discussion about a backdrop or should we just let the music speak for itself. People would say “Oh, you’re an emo band” and it’s just so much more than that. We played the music we wanted to play, the way we wanted to play it and the rest sort of spoke for itself. For us it was just about “Let’s rehearse and be really solid and go rock”, that was it. There’s so much about being in a band that’s outside of music and I loved that FSF never really focused on a lot of those other things other than making good music. You guys have that mystique. You really can’t find a lot on FSF from that time, it makes it feel really special and unique still. Bands today don’t have that luxury. You have to share your personal life, your wife, your kids etc. I get that kids like that but it seems like too much sometimes. I always really resented that and my management always hated me for it (laughs). They would say “How many hours did you spend on MySpace today?” I would say “Zero, but I wrote a song”. We would get equally mad and I would say “Do you think that back in the day that someone

Page 12: Further Seems Forever 'How To Start A Fire' Tour Press Pack

wrote Robert Plant a fan letter and he didn’t respond, did they hate Led Zeppelin?” I never considered myself a Robert Plant as much as I’d like to say that (laughs) but I love Robert Plant and the whole mystique of rock n’ roll. Journalists would write “They feed groupies to sharks” because nobody really knew their intimate personal lives. I never wanted anyone to know my personal life. I always resented the internet culture where you had to be so 100% focused on appeasing all of your fans’ whims at any given moment or else they won’t buy your next record. If I’m speaking honestly and this can be on the record, the music industry is so fucking out of wack. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve taken tours because “this band has X amount of followers on Facebook”. A lot of people use Facebook but it doesn’t mean that they intimately connect to my music. The money dried up and they started focusing on things that didn’t have anything to do with music. I truly believe that’s why it’s so out of wack. They stopped letting artists be artists and started letting artists be production-run people where you might as well work at a factory and spend your day on Facebook rather than writing something that someone could be intimately attached to. I could write something on Facebook and someone could like it and forget about it ten seconds later. I could write a song, someone emotionally connects to it and that could last a lifetime. It’s creative people being managed by non-creative people. I hope people can see through that. I think they can, I’m an eternal optimist. I believe that music is music. I’ll jump forward to the Jon Bunch question I know is coming. The man will live through his music and his music is so insanely powerful and his message that he spread through his entire career is something that will make him live forever. Jon touched people personally. I know that when I was 15 years old and I saw Sense Field play, a part of me changed. I’ve bought every Sense Field record since. I’m a huge fan and always will be. I never looked at his Facebook, but his music will last forever. I think there are enough people out there who champion that ideology that it’ll never die. Things change but the eternal message is that creating something that people will attach to, that’s what it’s all about. I think things just got over genre-lized. From the artist standpoint, it left a lot of places to experiment and expand. There are really only two kinds of music; good and bad (laughs). I’m not the judge of that, everyone personally is the judge of that. To me, if I were to judge good and bad music I’d say there’s music with intention and there’s music without. We have to ask your thoughts on the emo tag. I can’t speak for everyone else in the band. When we were playing we never thought of ourselves as an emo band. When people ask what we sounded like I would just say “rock music”. I don’t think anyone was thinking it back in the day but when I sat down and listened to How to Start a Fire, there is an amazing jazz component to it that I don’t think was really hitting us at the time. Maybe it was lost in the production or in the presentation but the guitar player, Derek (Cordoba), he’s just finishing his doctorate in jazz guitar. What he brought to the band was jazzy riffs in “A Blank Page Empire” and jazzy riffs in “I Am”, just stuff outside of the rock element. I always thought that Josh Colbert’s writing was more of a classical standpoint, where his stuff in the band always reminded me of classic prog bands. I think because emo became such a thing and it had become kind of an impersonation of itself, that it was unfair to call FSF an emo band. Just like I’d consider it unfair to call Brand New an emo band because they’ve experimented with so many different layers. They’re great musicians and they make great records. The thing that gets lost is people stop saying “This is a great album” and it just becomes an emo thing and

Page 13: Further Seems Forever 'How To Start A Fire' Tour Press Pack

it dies out. Now we have this resurgence because everyone is getting nostalgic. I guess I’ve been very fortunate that one of the bands that people have become nostalgic about is FSF. “Further is the perfect band for those late drives. Their lyrics always seem to meet you where you are at that very moment.” – Ryan Zimmerman (Greeley Estates) How did it feel getting back in a room with these guys again and playing these songs? I’ve said the phrase “like riding a bike” pretty much every time I’ve described it speaking to friends. It was magical and cool to let the songs breathe and have a fresh perspective. It was kicking the rust off here and there but if you were to look at it as a whole, it sounds like what it sounds like and it’s awesome. I think we all left with a very good spirit going on. It’s not just nostalgia for us. As much as it’s the past and we’re doing our best to relive it and what not, we got to spend so many special moments with each other. It’s one thing to have the opportunity to be a musician, but to be blessed with music and soul, it’s special and amazing. To be blessed to be able to take that ability and showcase it in front of people and have them latch onto it is thrilling. I think I can easily speak for everyone in the band to say that we are very grateful to have those experiences in our lives and to be able to share them again. It’s a testament to what we were able to do. I think there is a spirit of being grateful for what we were given. Do you think this release will always define you as an artist? This record defines my career up until now. I could kick and scream and moan and whine all day long and there’s nothing I could do about it. I think when I was doing bands afterward that weren’t quite as commercially successful that maybe I felt a little like I didn’t like that the record defined me. We’re all a little older now and I’ve been fortunate to do a few different things with different bands that sort of got me to a happy place again as a musician after the Further thing. It defines me up until now and I got plenty of life to live, so I hope. I’m still really proud of the record that we made. I’m proud of it because it was honest and it was truthful and I can stand behind it. I know what the songs mean to me and I know that it means to other people. To have that opportunity is pretty damn special and I don’t think I’d change it for the world. http://newnoisemagazine.com/interview-further-seems-forever-talk-about-how-to-start-a-fire/

Steve Kleisath from Further Seems Forever, Strongarm, Shai Hulud

Episode 198 - Steve was on one of my very first lists of guests that I wanted to have on the show because of my massive love for his drumming and bands he played in (Strongarm, Further Seems Forever, Shai Hulud). We discussed in depth, those early years of touring in Florida, his passion for video games and unconventional drumming. --Use our Amazon Affiliate Code to support the show! http://100wordspodcast.com/post/141159145839

SELF HELP FEST IN SAN BERNARDINO

Rock band Further Seems Forever saw a few different lineups before going on hiatus back in 2006. Reuniting with their original lineup in 2012, it wasn’t until last year when Self Help reached out about joining the fest that the How to Start a Fire lineup decided to also reunite. Taking the opportunity to perform a handful of shows along the way, the Florida outfit made their way to San Bernardino. While there, members Jason Gleason, Chad Neptune, Steve Kleisath and Josh Colbert spoke with us about how to survive lineup changes, why they felt now was the right time to reunite and if there is anything they’d go back and redo. http://www.musicconnection.com/self-help-fest-in-san-bernardino/4/

Further Seems Forever at The Roxy - 3.18.16

Every once in a while I find myself completely taken by surprise by a band's performance. Take Friday night at LA's famed Roxy Theater on the Sunset Strip. Not knowing much about indie rock band Further Seems Forever's storied history, I wasn't sure what to expect from the night but after chatting up some fans in attendance prior to the show, it was clear I was going to be in for something special. Having weathered a few line up changes since its inception, Further Seems Forever is back on tour with second front man Jason Gleason in tow for the first time in 10 years, performing the band's sophomore album, "How To Start a Fire" in its entirety during 9 select dates this month. Delivering one of the more impassioned sets I'd seen all year, it was hard for me to believe this incarnation of Further Seems Forever hadn't played together for such a long period of time. They had a genuine chemistry that was palpable throughout the night, creating an energy that was fed on by the fans gathered and returned in kind. Check out my photos from the night, also featuring openers Rival Tides and Kids, below. For more on Further Seems Forever be sure to visit furtherseemsforever.com and follow @fsfofficial on Twitter. Show Review: Further Seems Forever At The Roxy

Further Seems Forever played The Roxy on March 19th. it had been around 13 years since that line up has played together. It was only a three band bill, which seemed perfect for the space. The Roxy has a capacity of 449. And while that may not seem like a lot, it’s still a decent sized venue. Rival Tides and Kids opened for them and it was a show to remember. Rival Tides was the local LA band in the opening slot. They got the crowd involved and with a new album out in April, they had some new material to play. Kids followed with a slightly different vibe. Instead of a typical rock band, they included flutes and keyboard in their songs to put a twist on it. The venue filled out more as each band played. Once Further Seems forever was setting up, the venue had filled out and the crowd was ready for the final act. The band came on stage and began to play. The crowd was instantly into it and singing along. While the band has maintained a fan base all these years, they were still humbled and grateful for how many people came out to support them. They had the usual banter that bands do between songs, in which Chad told the crowd how he can lose guitar picks in his beard if he tries to hold them between his teeth like many guitarists do. Jason Gleason ran off stage to grab the opportunity to take a photo of the crowd before starting the next song. The crowd really got into “Pride War” during the set and the band played a cover of “Pagan Poetry” by Bjork. The highlight of the whole show, though, wasn’t even the music. It was a between song speech about Jon Bunch, who was honored with a show in Santa Ana two days later. The heartfelt speech captivated the audience and it was as if we all knew Jon Bunch personally in that moment. During the final song, the crowd got really into it and closed out the night with some crowdsurfing. Start to finish, the band played an amazing set to celebrate How To Start A Fire. http://hifinoise.com/2016/03/21/show-review-further-seems-forever-at-the-roxy/

LET IT BANG: THE BEST OF THE WEEK

Well, this is the first week where the options you have are so diverse and stacked, that it’s beginning to feel a lot like the year is finally going. Tons of acts will be rolling through town due to the spillover from SXSW. Even big names like Fetty Wap pictured above will be here. Houston, let’s get this week started. […] Warehouse Live will host the second wave emocore of Florida’s Further Seems Forever. The Florida group has always been influential, though they could never keep a singer from one album to the next. For this tour, it’s the lineup that was on the popular album, 2003’s “How To Start A Fire.” South Florida emo pop act Kids will be on as direct support, while Houston’s Another Run will be on prior. I would think you’d have heard of these guys but if you’ve never seen them live, then you’ve been missing out. They’ve recently been on a tear playing songs from last year’s “Be Honest,” adding plenty of energy and all around performance to their sets. The intriguing alt emo pop of Spring’s Portal Frame will open the all ages show in the studio with doors at 7:00 and tickets between $20.00 and $23.00. http://www.freepresshouston.com/let-it-bang-the-best-of-the-week/

PREVIEW: SELF HELP FEST 2016

For its third iteration on March 19, 2016, Self Help Fest is bringing out the big guns. Not only are festival founders A Day To Remember taking over headlining duties (after a one-year break that saw Sleeping With Sirens and Pierce The Veil take over), but the almighty, incredible Underøath is staging its triumphant return from hiatus with the They’re Only Chasing Safety-era lineup. […] The award for most emotional set of the night at Self Help Fest will most likely go to Further Seems Forever. Though Self Help will host the How To Start A Fire-era of the group, undoubtedly there will be homage paid to the recently departed Jon Bunch, whose passing sent shockwaves through the scene in the past couple weeks. […] Come out. Support the bands. Read the literature. Self Help Fest. See you at the show.

Jason, Steve, Derick & I toured the world in this incarnation more than any other. We met a lot of people and slept on a lot of their floors. Things ended very abrupt with Jason to say the least. I think we realized that there was a contingent of our fans that wanted to see Jason again. This is also therapeutic for us.” The tour kicks off on March 10th in Atlanta, GA and wraps up on March 20th in San Francisco, CA. For more info, check out their socials below! Further Seems Forever Announce “How To Start A Fire” Tour

Further Seems Forever has announced they will stop in 9 cities to perform the band’s sophomore album How To Start A Fire in its entirety. The first time the band has hit the stage together in almost ten years, this tour kicks off on March 10th in Atlanta, GA and wraps up on March 20th in San Francisco, CA. Additionally, VIP ticket bundles are available and include one general admission ticket, a souvenir laminate, meet & greet access as well as a screen printed poster to be signed at the meet & greet. Fans can purchase the VIP bundle exclusively, here: http://bit.ly/1JNmy0N. For more information on Further Seems Forever, please visit furtherseemsforever.com. I think we realized that there was a contingent of our fans that wanted to see Jason again. This is also therapeutic for us.” Some books are better left unfinished while others empty pages leave us wondering, “what happened?” The book of Further Seems Forever has had many dramatic chapters, a revolving cast of characters and one main plot point that endured throughout: incredible, innovative and passionate songs that could make the most introverted person belt out their lyrics. In 2003 you would be hard pressed to find someone not belting out “Let’s set this city ablaze!” which are the opening words to the band’s second record, How To Start A Fire. The album sold over 100,000 copies in the US alone. For the next two years, Further Seems Forever hit the road with a fire and a fury rarely seen by their peers. Touring with bands such as New Found Glory, Elliott, Hot Rod Circuit, Thursday, Coheed & Cambria and so many more, the band solidified themselves as a leader in their genre. Too often the case with creative, passionate people, life on the road began to take its toll on the members of the band. Jason Gleason, Derek Cordoba, Chad Neptune and Steve Kleisath made incredible music together but on the heels of what would be their biggest headline tour to date (The Tooth and Nail Tour with support from Anberlin), the music stopped. Tensions between the members had reached a critical point and Gleason had decided to leave the band. While the band continued on with new singer, Jon Bunch, many fans were left with an

incomplete feeling. This wasn’t how it was meant to end and over ten years later, Further Seems Forever is back with Jason Gleason and ready to finish the chapter that is How To Start a Fire. While the band continued on with new singer, Jon Bunch, many fans were left with an incomplete feeling. This wasn't how it was meant to end and over ten years later, Further Seems Forever is back with Jason Gleason and ready to finish the chapter that is How To Start a Fire. Further Seems Forever is Jason Gleason (vocals), Derick Cordoba (guitar), Chad Neptune (bass), and Steven Kleisath (drums).

Further Seems Forever Announce "How To Start A Fire" Tour

Further Seems Forever has announced they will stop in 9 cities to perform the band's sophomore album How To Start A Fire in its entirety. Fans can purchase the VIP bundle exclusively, HERE. For more information on Further Seems Forever, please visit: http://furtherseemsforever.com. When asked aboutthe tour, bassist Chad Neptune said: "Further Seems Forever was a lot of things... and for a lot of people 'How To Start A Fire' is what it was. Jason, Steve, Derick & I toured the world in this incarnation more than any other. We met a lot of people and slept on a lot of their floors. Things ended very abrupt with Jason to say the least. I think we realized that there was a contingent of our fans that wanted to see Jason again. This is also therapeutic for us."

Some books are better left unfinished while others empty pages leave us wondering, "what happened?" The book of Further Seems Forever has had many dramatic chapters, a revolving cast of characters and one main plot point that endured throughout: incredible, innovative and passionate songs that could make the most introverted person belt out their lyrics. In 2003 you would be hard pressed to find someone not belting out "Let's set this city ablaze!" which are the opening words to the band's second record, How To Start A Fire. Further Seems Forever announce spring 2016 How to Start a Fire Tour

For the first time in over 10 years Further Seems Forever will hit the road with Jason Gleason on vocals. Today (Jan. 20) the band revealed their spring 2016 tour plans, which will consist of them performing their sophomore album How to Start a Fire in its entirety at each concert. The other members that'll join Gleason out on the road is drummer Steven Kleisath, bass player Chad Neptune, and guitarist Derick Cordoba. Further Seems Forever's spring 2016 How to Start a Fire Tour only consists of nine dates, and it's set to kick off on March 10 in Atlanta. Further Seems Forever's second album How to Start a Fire came out back in February 2003. Just one year after the release of that album vocalist Jason Gleason parted ways with the band. After he left, Jon Bunch took over on vocals until the band went on a hiatus in 2006. Once the hiatus was over, original vocalist Chris Carrabba once again took his place as lead singer. So why is the band playing that album in its entirety on this tour? In the press release bass player Neptine said, "Further Seems Forever was a lot of things... and for a lot of people 'How To Start A Fire' is what it was. Things ended very abrupt with Jason to say the least. I think we realized that there was a contingent of our fans that wanted to see Jason again." Tickets for Further Seems Forever's spring 2016 How to Start a Fire Tour are on sale via the band's official website here. Not only are general admission tickets being sold, but so are VIP passes. Each VIP pass consists of one concert ticket, a laminate, access to meet the band, and a posted that can be signed at the meet & greet. VIP passes are on sale now via Show Stubs.
