As part of the SEED Bursary Programme, SANZAF offers bursaries to students at various Islamic institutions, including the Islamic Peace College of South Africa (IPSA) and Madrasatu Ahlil Quraan. “I come from a family where we don't have money to send children to study. This bursary has given me hope that I can become someone,” says Maghmoodah, 20, a student at IPSA. “My studies have changed me and made me a better person as I have come to understand Islam better,” says Faldeelah, 20, an Islamic studies student from Mitchells Plain. Beneficiaries Developed Through Skills Programme SANZAF Western Cape's caseworkers seek to maintain the dignity of its beneficiaries by offering a holistic assessment to establish what can be done to benefit and sustain a family in the long term. It is with this in mind that SANZAF offers skills development programmes in partnership with various institutions. In the past year, many beneficiaries who have graduated from SANZAF's skills development programmes have managed to find employment in various positions ranging from call-centre consultants to paralegal service providers to panel-beaters. “We are exceptionally blessed and fortunate that SANZAF has given us the opportunities to better our lives. Your assistance has made a huge difference not only in our lives, but also to that of our families,” says Mymoena, a graduate of the SANZAF-sponsored CAD Computer Training Course in the Western Cape. Fundraising And Zakah Consultation SANZAF Western Cape hosts various fundraising initiatives throughout the year including the ever popular Annual Bazaar. This year, the Annual Bazaar was held at Spine Road High School and saw the introduction of many new forms of entertainment including a Kiddies Corner, Fear Factor competition and a kiddies talent show. The region also offers Zakah consultation sessions at some of its offices where an established team of learned scholars and advisors are able to provide the public with effective one- on-one Zakah consultation sessions. The scholars, who have been assisting members of the public for many years, offer quality advice and treat every consultation confidentially. 39
