Fiona Ellison Voluntary and Public Sector Campaign Manager at Step Up To Serve

Fiona has been involved in a number of initiatives across the youth sector. From developing the Young Achievers Awards; to supporting the development of a ground-breaking programme of work at the National Union of Students, on student opportunities engagement; to most recently at GoThinkBig developing work experience opportunities for young people. She currently leads the work that the Step Up To Serve deliver, through the #iwill campaign, activity to support pubic and voluntary sectors develop more opportunities for young people to take part in youth social action.

Rob Wilson MP Minister for Civil Society at Cabinet Office

Rob Wilson was appointed as Minister for Civil Society on 27 September 2014 and after the general election in May 2015 retained the role. He was elected the Conservative MP for Reading East in 2005. As Minister for Civil Society he leads on the civil society agenda and is responsible for the Big Society agenda, National Citizen Service and youth policy, social action, civil society sector support and social enterprise and social investment.

Darin Halifax City of Service Chief Officer at Plymouth City Council

Darin is Plymouth’s Cities of Service Chief Service Officer - one of only 4 in the U.K and has been in post since May 2014. He manages volunteering programmes in the city concentrating on social movement and the impact of social action and is based in the City Council. Prior to this, he was the city’s Community Cohesion Coordinator where he led the city’s partnership work on good community relations, hate crime and community tensions. Prior to that, he was a civil servant in the Department for Work and Pensions for 20 years.

Sarah Yelland is the Deputy Chief Executive at Devon Community Foundation (DCF) which supports hundreds of voluntary and community groups and is the leading route for philanthropic giving in Devon. DCF has distributed over £10,000,000 to more than 3,424 projects across Devon, Plymouth and Torbay and is one of 48 Community Foundations in the UK. Sarah has over 25 years experience in the community and social care sector and has been part of the DCF team for nearly six years where she manages the grants team.

Alison Boyd is a Locality Development Officer at Devon County Council (DCC). Her roles includes building relationships, promoting and supporting effective partnerships between organisations and communities. She also supports the 62 elected members with the allocation and administration of their £10,000 locality budgets which they can use to respond to local needs up to 31 March 2016. Councillors can, if they wish, make grants to support projects or activities that benefit the communities they represent and help meet DCC’s strategic objectives as described in Better Together 2014-2020 plan.

Lucy DeGaris has been the Head of Volunteering at Westbank for the last 10 years, a charity providing care and promoting health in Devon and beyond, and has over 400 volunteers carrying out a wide range of roles. Lucy has led on several Big Lottery funded projects with volunteering at their heart. Most recently she has been responsible for delivery of a Cabinet Office funded social action programme which has recruited more than 100 volunteers and supported over 700 older people.

Richard King, a partner at Tozers for over 30 years, is well known for his expertise in charity law, featuring in the Legal 500 and Chambers law directories. A member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners and of the Charity Law Association from its inception, he advises all types of charity, both local, regional and national. Richard also has great experience in setting up new charities and trading companies, as well as academy schools.

Jenny Fish is a Funding Officer (Local) for the England Early Contact Function of the Big Lottery Fund providing support and services across Devon, Cornwall, Plymouth, Dorset and Torbay. Her role is to promote Big’s demand led funding portfolio, primarily Awards 4 All and Reaching Communities and apply local knowledge of the area to comment on applications prior to assessment. She delivers learning and information to the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector on Big Lottery funding strands and engages with local stakeholders in order to inform funding programmes.

Nina Goodwin is an IT trainer working as part of the Cosmic and Peninsula consortium to deliver inspiring talks and workshops across Devon and Somerset under the Get Up To Speed programme. It is designed to help businesses and communities across Devon and Somerset improve their ICT skills and knowledge. The programme is funded by Devon and Somerset County Councils and delivered by the Cosmic Peninsula Consortium on behalf of Connecting Devon and Somerset.

Trevor Smale joined Lloyds Bank Foundation as the South West Manager in 2006. He came from a public

sector background, working initially in planning, regeneration and European funding. He then focused

on performance management and corporate governance, becoming a managing inspector with the

Audit Commission and then a council chief executive. He has a passionate interest in rural issues. That

interest has involved him doing many related academic, advisory and voluntary roles.

Oliver Mochizuki is the CEO of Fundsurfer and a Film Producer. Fundsurfer is a hybrid funding platform

for creative, green and social projects and companies offering access to a wide range of alternative

funding options. Funding is combined with support to get you ready to crowdfund or raise investment.

Oliver is an experienced charity trustee having co-founded the music and arts festival ‘BrisFest’. He is

also a RSA fellow, member of the IOD 99 and director of Bristol Media.

Hannah Jones is a Volunteering & Community Involvement Consultant for the National Trust in the

South West. Hannah has worked for the National Trust for 14 years and her role is to support and advise

volunteer managers who enable the involvement of over 14,000 people each year who give their time

to help look after special places and share them with millions of visitors each year.
