Just Eat prepares to join the big leagues

Delphi Automotive sees “record third quarter financial performance”

29 November 2017 – Next month, online takeaway delivery service Just Eat will join the FTSE 100, with a market valuation of around £5.6 billion. The company went public in 2014, and since then, its value has tripled – easily outperforming the index. This growth is being driven by British consumer preferences, and the trends that led to their change show no sign of slowing down. Add in the company’s recently approved merger with Hungry House, and Just Eat is on the cusp of becoming a major player.

06 November 2017 – Automotive component making giant Delphi Automotive released third quarter earnings last week that broke its own records. The company said that revenue came in 4.4% higher than the third quarter of 2016, at $4.3 billion, and earnings “excluding special items” hit $1.66 per share – that’s an 11% rise against the year-ago quarter. For the first nine months of the year, the company has performed even better: revenue of $12.9 billion (up 6% against the first nine months of 2016), and earnings per share of $4.95 (up 11% from the first nine months of 2016).

Xylem sees positive earnings, revenue, and order growth in third quarter

02 November 2017 – Global water technology company Xylem Inc. reported strong figures for the third quarter of 2017 this week. The company said that adjusted net income had risen by 20% from the same quarter in the previous year to $119 million, or $0.65 per share. Revenue for the quarter, which came in at $1.2 billion, rose by even more at +33% year on year. This figure includes the company’s Sensus business, which it acquired at the end of last year. The company also said it saw organic growth across all of its segments.

23 November 2017 – Eurofins Scientific, the world leader in bioanalytical testing, has announced the acquisition of Spectro Analytical Labs Ltd. Spectro leads the Indian market in environmental analytical product testing and inspection, and Eurofins will be hoping that it can provide the company with a bigger footprint in the country. Spectro has been in business for 22 years, and is highly accredited in India.

24 November 2017 – After an incredibly strong rally, which saw its value climb by $292 billion, Tencent has become the fifth most valuable company in the world. In doing so, it has ousted Facebook from the top 5 and become the world’s most valuable social networking company. The WeChat operator, and Chinese mobile game kingpin, now has a market cap of $532 billion – just edging out Facebook, which is worth $522 billion.

28 November 2017 – Social media giant Facebook became embroiled in the recent controversy over Russian “hacking” of the last U.S. Presidential Election, when it transpired that Russian-bought political ads were featured on its site. The company, like peer, Google, is eager to learn from the experience, making its networks more robust, more resistant to disinformation, and more heavily policed.

15 November 2017 – According to the Human Rights Campaign, live event mastermind Live Nation is the best place to work in the U.S. if you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ). The Campaign rated 947 of the nation’s biggest businesses, and Live Nation was one of the rare few to score a perfect 100% on equality between straight and binary-gendered employees, and LGBTQ employees.
