Engineering Inspiration

• Also called EI

• EI is judged in the pits

• FIRST says EI “Celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team’s school and community.”

Wait so what are the Judges looking for?• Each reginal/district/district championship does EI differently.

• In GA, Judges are looking for two part, Outreach and robot design.

Chairman’s

• “the highest honor given at the FRC Championship, recognizing the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST.”

• Composed of three parts essay, presentation, and video.

What FIRST is looking for

• impact of the FIRST program on team • team’s innovative or creative method to spread the FIRST• team members act as role models and inspire other FIRST team members to

emulate • team’s initiatives to help start or form other FIRST teams (including Jr. FLL,

FLL, & FTC)• team’s initiatives on assisting other FIRST teams (including Jr. FLL, FLL, FTC

& FRC) with progressing through the FIRST program• team works with other FIRST teams to serve as mentors to younger or less

experienced FIRST teams • Describe the strength of your partnership with your sponsors with special

emphasis on the 2013/2014 year and the preceding two to five years

Awards Vocab/”slang”

• Hall of Fame- a team who has won Chairman’s at Champs. (famous teams who have been inducted into the hall of fame include, Simbotics (2012), Cheesy Poofs (2004), and Bomb Squad (a really long time ago)

• Gracious Professionalism-With Gracious Professionalism, fierce competition and mutual gain are not separate notions. Gracious professionals learn and compete like crazy, but treat one another with respect and kindness in the process. They avoid treating anyone like losers. No chest thumping tough talk, but no sticky-sweet platitudes either. Knowledge, competition, and empathy are comfortably blended.

• Coopertition- Coopertition® produces innovation. At FIRST, Coopertition is displaying unqualified kindness and respect in the face of fierce competition. Coopertition is founded on the concept and a philosophy that teams can and should help and cooperate with each other even as they compete.
