See the London Lions (Basketball team) for £3.50!

We have acquired cheap tickets to see the London Lions Basketball team at the Copperbox Arena

in Stratford. Full details can be found on the PE FROG site for which your child has their

passwords. It is a great family day out with competitions and professional sport. Tickets can be

bought directly from Miss Jones outside her classroom (class 2 – reception)

Uniform

Only one month into the new academic year and we seem to be collecting a range of uniform items.

Please could we ask that you label all uniform items clearly with your child’s full name. This helps

us to return it to you swiftly should it be left behind. All sports activities, including wider

opportunities on Wednesday afternoons, need the school uniform PE kit unless otherwise stated.

Contact details/permission letters

Please ensure the school’s Administration Team have your most

up-to-date contact details (mobile phone numbers and email

addresses) and that you keep them informed of any changes of

mobile telephone numbers or emergency contact details. Also,

please sign and return the on-line computer use and photograph

permission forms so that we may act on these as appropriate.

Birthday Treats

Just a reminder that we ask that birthday cakes or cupcakes

are not sent into school for birthdays. Please send in

chocolates or sweets which are easy to distribute and can be

done quickly and easily at the end of the day without wasting

too much valuable learning time. May I also take this

opportunity to remind you that we are a nut free school so please send in nut free treats. Thank you.

Prefects

Recently Mr Sadler and Miss Harman held interviews for School Prefects. All of Year 6 pupils who applied did an exceptional job of displaying their maturity and their wonderful personalities! The following pupils were eventually

Harvest Assembly

Our Harvest Assembly will take place on Monday 15th October. As in previous years, we request your support through

donations of non-perishable goods that we use to help with the great work done by the Redbridge Welcome Centre.

Children can bring in their donations from the 1st October and pass them to their class teacher. Thanks you in

advance for your support.

We have had a wonderful start to the new academic year in Reception. All the children have settled in really well in

their new classes and have enjoyed getting to know their teachers as have the teachers getting to know all the

children. The children have enjoyed a range of games and activities in their first few days of school and have been

eager to learn the new rules and structure to their school day. Timetabled lessons will being next week and a quick

reminder to all children to bring in their P.E kits for Monday 1st October.

A big welcome back to all the new Year 1 and 2 children and their families. We had a

mysterious start to the year. Visitors had left items around the school and the children had to

look for the clues and guess who had left them. The final clue was a huge letter from none

other than the giant from ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. The letter invited the children to a picnic

and revealed our learning journey, 'Into the Woods'.

The KS1 teachers would also like to say a big thank you to all the parents and carers

who came along to the ‘Meet the Teacher’ meeting on Thursday 13th September. It

was our best turn out yet. At the meeting we launched our exciting new reading

challenge: Reading Karate. This rewards children for reading at home. It has been

met with great enthusiasm and it's fantastic to see so many parents writing in their

child's reading diary. Remember the more you read, the more of a karate master you will become. Our first white

certificates should be handed out very soon. Hopefully by the end of the year everyone will become a black belt

reading superstar!

After six weeks of summer holidays, there was no easing Years 3 and 4

into the new school year. Soon after the morning register on their first

day, the children were visited by a very concerned Mr Ward who had

just heard an extremely loud noise

coming from outside. He wanted this

investigated immediately and came to

Fullwood’s best to do the job. One

after the other, classes 7, 8, 9 and 10

went to check the ecology area and were shocked to find a serious incident had

occurred. Using their investigative skills and looking around carefully for clues, the

children discovered key pieces of evidence. Curiously there were camouflaged

rainforest animals and, amongst other smaller items, an airplane menu, an airplane

safety sheet, and a mysterious black box. Our shrewd Years 3 and 4 investigators

also found, astonishingly, an airplane wing lodged in a tree. In the classroom

debrief, the children came to the worrying conclusion that there had been a plane crash in the rainforest. They have

since discovered that four children survived the crash, and through this term’s learning journey – Rainforest Rescue

– are looking at how we can best support the children’s survival.

In other important news, all children now have their Reading Records. Daily reading at home has a significant

positive impact on children’s learning and development. Please remember to read with your child every day or

check that they are reading every day, and sign their reading record to let us know. Finally a reminder that children

need their PE kits on Mondays and Fridays. Thank you!

Our first day back was diversity day! Children shared where their families came from

through maps, ‘All about me’ booklets and poems.

This term, our topic is ‘India’ so our stunning start allowed the children to experience India through their senses. When the children walked into their classrooms, they had sarees (What can you feel?),

food (What can you taste?), spices (What can you smell?), music (what can you hear?) and pictures of India (What can you see?). Later, the children had the opportunity to visit each class to take part in different activities.

There was: Bollywood dancing, garland making, painting the Himalayan Mountains using water colours and drawing rice fields using oils pastels. A great introduction to the learning journey for the term!

Mrs Lali our cook, is organising a special dinner on Thursday 4th October. There will be Chicken Nuggets/Halal Chicken

Nuggets and Vegetarian Nuggets and chips followed by a Chocolate Flapjack. Please encourage your child to sample

a school dinner on this day.

Remember the golden times (as we were growing up) of playing in

the street with our neighbours? Redbridge Council agreed to pilot

a Play Street policy to allow residents to close off the road for a

few hours a month in order for the children to play safely and

freely on the streets, just like their parents used to do so in the

good old days! Boroughs such as Hackney and Richmond already

have successful play street policies and it is great that Redbridge

has followed suit as part of their Strengthening Communities

project. Closing off the road helps residents reclaim the road and

offers a safer and friendlier space for neighbours to come out and

converse, get to know each other and build bonds. This was an initiative started by a project called Playing Out

(http://playingout.net) and it focuses on creating safe spaces for children to play where they live to promote health

and happiness.

Mrs Nargis Jahan, parent of 4 children, said, “On Sunday 9th

September 2018, I was given permission by Redbridge Council to

close my road for a couple of hours for the purpose of

street play. Around 150 people turned up and neighbours talked

and got to know each other whilst the children were free to play on

the roads, even the adults got involved in the games! Neighbours

donated homecooked food and made tea for everyone to enjoy. It

was a beautiful atmosphere and the streets really came alive.

In this day and age, we rarely see children playing on the streets,

they rarely get out and converse with neighbours. Street Play is a

wonderful informal way of allowing this to happen in a safe and

manageable manner. My road currently has permission to close the

street off once a month and residents are already thinking to

extend this in the summer months. It was such an enjoyable, multi-

cultural and multigenerational event and really helped build a

community spirit that we would not have otherwise seen.”
