Area 1: What MLA DoesGoal: Rationalize MLA programs and services, and streamline and clarify organizational structure

in order to:

a. Focus on programs that are strategic and relevant to members and customers and a good use of MLA resources; improve or eliminate programs that are not and introduce programs that are

b. Speed up decision making and execution

c. Improve MLA financial health (or avoid a deterioration of financial health)

Area 2: New ProfessionalsGoal: Align MLA programs, services, and governance with new professional member needs and expectations in order to:

a. Effectively support new professionals in the early development of their career or professionals transitioning to the medical library field

b. Increase membership and use of MLA programs and services

c. Ensure MLA’s long-term relevance and viability

Area 3: EducationGoal: Strengthen MLA’s educational curriculum and offerings in order to:a. Provide education in areas where MLA is the most effective

in teaching the core competencies of its members and customers

b. Adopt instructional designs and delivery methods that meet the learner’s expectations

c. Provide continuing education (CE) to those unable to attend the annual meeting

d. Develop MLA intellectual propertye. Position MLA as the go to education resource for medical

librariansf. Grow revenues outside of membership and annual meeting

members, customers, and the public on their preferred platform and devices

b. Grow community interactionsc. Provide an efficient seamless experience, and consistent

MLA brand—for MLA and its chapters, sections, and SIGs—currently executed across multiple and disparate websites and communication channels

d. Place MLA at the forefront of electronic content deliverye. Better utilize MLA resources to achieve strategic

objectives
