Church of the Resurrection is a new church in and for the heart of New Orleans. 

We exist to do what every Christian community has been called to do at all times and in all places, to love God and our neighbor through the grace and truth of Jesus Christ.

We believe that he lived, he died, he was resurrected, he will come again - and we believe that to know him, is to know the fullness of life.

Whether you believe that or not, you are welcome here. Whatever your background, wherever you are between faith and doubt, the door of this church is open to you.

God mercifully reveals himself to those who seek. When that happens, there is transformation to the depths. When the church is unified by this power and love, it is able to take part in the very work of God, making all things new.

This is happening in New Orleans. This is Resurrection’s dream.  Come realize it with us.

Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 55

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat!Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread,     and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good,     and delight yourselves in rich food. Christ Our Hope in Life and Death

What is our hope in life and death? Christ alone, Christ alone

What is our only confidence? That our souls to Him belong

Who holds our days within His hand? What comes, apart from His command?

And what will keep us to the end? The love of Christ, in which we stand

What truth can calm the troubled soul? God is good, God is good

Where is His grace and goodness known? In our great Redeemer's blood

Confession of Faith: Hebrews 11, 12

Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, we also lay aside every weight, and the sin which clings so closely, and we run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Sermon Text: John 16:16-24 “Joy: Ask and You Will Receive”

16 “A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.” 17 So some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, ‘because I am going to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We do not know what he is talking about.” 19 Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me’? 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. 21 When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. 22 So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. 23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

Confession of Sin

Most Gracious and Merciful God, hear our prayer and help us. We are slow to learn and quick to forget. We are pained by our hardness of heart, by our prayerless days, our joyless dispositions, our poverty of compassion, our complacency to the treasures of Heaven, by our wasted hours, our inattentiveness to the Holy Spirit, and our hesitation to serve you and our neighbor. Open our eyes that we may see, and our ears that we may hear. Strengthen our faith in our inmost being. Make it our highest joy to seek you, to follow your gracious call, and so to lay hold of the sure promise it gives us. By your free grace which knows no end, deliver us from the power of the evil one, renew us in the strong and merciful name of your Son Jesus Christ. *Silent Confession

The Lord’s Supper: Prayer of Consecration†

The Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, 'This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’

†The Lord’s Supper is a vital part of Christians’ communion with Jesus. Together, we affirm our commitment to him—and each other—by celebrating his death and resurrection.

The Places Meet the Place Family! Will and Dori Place, both Louisiana natives, have lived in New Orleans for almost 16 years. They live in uptown and have 5 children, Judah(8), Nora(6), Lucia(4), Levi(2), and Lila(2) and are pumped to be a part of the Resurrection family; they are so thankful to be in a church where the presence of the Holy Spirit is felt and Biblical truth is taught each week.

Jackie Monteilh Jacqueline (Jackie) Monteilh has been living in Nola for 11 years and is originally from Honduras. She came here for college at LSU. She started attending Resurrection in 2017/2018 and lives in the Irish Channel. Jackie loves everything about Resurrection and is moved weekly by the teaching each week.  She is moved by the gifted teaching and loves the community and the people she is meeting.
