OUR TAKEThe highly reliable Fuji Xerox DocuCentre-V C2263 fared well throughout testing, boasting an entirely misfeed-free 25,000-impression durability assessment. Print, copy, and scan speeds were in line with similarly-configured devices in the unit’s segment, and users can expect the model to deliver solid image quality. Bold characters with no breakup suit general business documents, while brightly saturated colour business graphics and very good colour halftone range greatly benefit graphics-in-tensive print environments. The device’s ease-of-use is noteworthy as well. Users can create up to 40 preset settings, browse folders on a given network, and create subfolders for storing on the hard drive. The device has robust Scan to USB capabilities, standard searchable PDF creation, and a large customizable 177.8 mm colour touchscreen with swipe/slide functionality. Program-ming and storing jobs is largely intuitive, though certain selections from within the device’s web utility can be difficult to navigate. Centreware Web, the model’s fleet management solution suitable for Xerox and Fuji Xerox devices, provides a great deal of remote management features from installing and managing print queues to updating and cloning device settings and more. The Fuji Xerox DocuCentre-V C2263 also offers the convenience of Server-less On-Demand printing, so users can print from any device on a given network without having to download and install any server software. With mobile and cloud printing support on the unit to seal the deal, Buyers Lab highly recommends the Fuji Xerox DocuCen-tre-V C2263 for small to mid-size workgroups.

Y Soft SafeQ 6 delivers comprehensive man-agement and administrative control of all printing, copying, and scanning operations including shared queue printing, scan work-flow creation, and job rerouting. The serv-er-based solution provides high levels of security for all documents, cost savings, con-servation of environmental resources, and greater employee efficiencies. The Full Enter-prise Suite includes document capture and automated, custom scan workflows.
Easy UI Solution 2.0 is a downloadable app that is designed to help restructure MFP operability by providing an entirely differ-ent, fully-customizable display with features that minimize the number of steps it takes to execute commonly-used workflows from a custom menu. A user’s screen is loaded upon authentication at the device. Other convenience-boosting features include Easy Copy, Easy Store to Folder, Private Charge Print (Simple Check or Print All), and Scan Auto. According to the company, Easy UI also automatically recognizes the orientation and number of printed sides of original doc-uments, and allows users to add their most frequently used settings (such as N-up or 2-sided copying) as one-touch apps to the main menu, enabling them to start copying or scanning using these settings with the touch of a button.
A robust end-to-end capture/workflow solu-tion, NSI AutoStore 6 makes turning hard-copy documents into electronic files quick, easy, and affordable, and it allows existing electronic documents to be slip-streamed into custom AutoStore workflows for in-creased productivity and diminished docu-ment storage requirements. Also from Nu-ance Communications is SafeCom G4 Server, a vendor-agnostic output management solu-tion that offers accounting, reporting, track-ing, and billing of all job types through user authentication, and even provides secure pull printing, mobile print/release support, environmental initiatives, policy-driven rules, and more.
Cloud On-Demand Print lets users print documents from an MFP by entering their authentication information or by using a seven-digit print reservation number as a shared user, all without the need for driver or network setup. The solution boasts a variety of security measures such as SSL Encryption, Password Protected Documents, Operation History, and Account Management.
Though a separate service contract is re-quired, Cloud Service Hub manages access permission information for cloud services in use with single sign-on, so users can locate their files by searching keywords rather than having to sift through a cluttered directory. Users can cross-search several cloud services for documents, preview and print directly from the multifunction device, and even scan documents directly to a chosen cloud service.

USABILITY 7.5
SERVICEABILITY/MANAGEMENT 8.0
Though multiple drivers cannot be installed at the same time nor can they be pushed out to multiple PCs, no user interven-tion is required when configuring accessories. Drivers are installed with the feedback utility and support test page printing.
Programming destinations remotely through LDAP to the local address book can be done from the control panel, but not from the web UI. Users can browse the network when setting up Scan-to-Folder jobs to simplify job programming.
Multi-destination types cannot be saved as one-touch address book entries.
Maintenance Assistant, which is accessed via the Machine Status button, enables users to send diagnostic information directly to Fuji Xerox to help support staff better solve device errors.
The DocuCentre-V C2263’s web utility, CentreWare Internet Services, is easy to use overall. Feedback is detailed, with toner and paper supplies indicated in 25-percent increments, while components like the waste toner container, staple cartridge, and photoconductor are labeled as “OK” or “Replace”. Pop up messages are also supported out of box to keep users in the loop on the status of the device, and email notifications can be sent automatically to administrators (max of 3 recipients) when consumables are low or if an error occurs. Moreover, any user can delete addresses from the LDAP address book, but this can be changed for reserve by admins only.
CentreWare Web, which is available for download on Fuji Xerox’s website, is a device management utility with an unclut-tered, customizable interface. Though it lacks drag-and-drop support, the utility makes it easy to execute tasks, thanks in large part to various wizards accessible via the program’s home page. Its monitoring and management features, which cover Fuji Xerox as well as other brands, are strong, and CentreWare Web provides more reporting options than most competing utilities.
Xerox Standard Accounting tracks copies, prints, scans, and faxes and is embedded in the software of the device, meaning no additional third-party applications are required. Setup of different types of accounts is enabled via the web utility. Up to 2,500 user IDs and 500 group accounts are available. Both administrators and users can generate usage reports.

CentreWare Internet Services is easy to navigate, functions are clearly labelled for easy selection, and detailed usage counters and total runtime are provided. The web utility also provides the paper size in each drawer, as well as the amount of paper in each drawer, indicated in 25-percent increments.
Job history information includes job name, user, job status, job type, page count, output destination, host inter-face, and time completed. However, job history cannot be exported from the web user interface. Unfortunately, if the device is in use at the time of programming a destination to the address book, the user will be informed that the task cannot be processed, forcing them to have to program the destination all over again.

The web utility allows for direct printing of files in PDF, PCL, PostScript, TIFF, JPEG, and XPS formats
Loading media into the DocuCentre-V C2263 is a snap. Limit indicators within each drawer are easy to see, and locking guides for both paper length and width prevent shifting.
Step-by-step, dynamic instructions are provided for clearing misfeeds and include text, graphics, and ani-mations. All misfeed areas allow for easy access, and all access points are marked.
Though toner cannot be loaded on the fly, procedures for replacing toner are simple. Users can simply pull out the cartridges from the front of the machine. On-screen instructions for replacing toner are also provided.

WALK-UP EXPERIENCE 7.5
Users can save up to 40 settings for frequently used jobs via the Stored Programming menu on the control panel.
By default, users must navigate through quite a few screens and menus to scan to different types of destinations. There is no support for programming one-touch favorites for scan settings and destinations, but the Job Flow Sheets function lets users scan to multiple destinations from one central location at the control panel.
The optional Scan Delivery Kit enables users to scan paper documents and sort them into forwarding destinations auto-matically. Plus, with the Settings Creation Tool, administrators can assign an original read and file saving method for com-monly-run scan tasks and export them as a ZIP file. The Settings ZIP file can then be imported to a device with CentreWare Internet Services, prompting a button to appear on the Scan Delivery screen by the document type. Up to 10 buttons can be saved and supported formats are PDF, DocuWorks documents, and TIFF.
The job queue is accessed via the Job Status hard key. Users can view all copy, print, and scan jobs in a single list by se-lecting All Jobs, or they can choose to view only specific types of jobs. Print and copy jobs in queue can be moved to the second slot, and jobs cannot be modified further than quantity unless the job was sent from a stored folder on the device.
Searchable PDF is optional via the Scan Kit Advanced, but if opted for, the function does not have its own standalone selec-tion at the control panel to simplify access as seen with competing devices. Instead, users must switch from Image Only to Searchable PDF from a pull-down directory located on a sub-menu within the scan screen.
Scan preview is supported, though it is not automatically set. There is no support for on-screen editing except page rota-tion, and while enlarge view is available with a slider key on the display, there is no support for pinch-to-zoom functionality.
Robust Scan to USB features include a conveniently placed USB port at the front of the device, a menu that auto-populates upon insertion, and preview functionality. Supported file formats include compact, encrypted, and searchable PDF, as well as JPEG, TIFF, DOC, XLS, and XPS formats. Users can also name files and store them into subfolders within the drive.
Only one LDAP server is supported, while other competitors enable several servers, but scan to email and scan to USB menus are nearly identical.
The Services Home screen includes a Simple Copy menu, which enables users to speedily program copy jobs without hav-ing to navigate between different screens.
While Job build for copy mode is very strong, allowing mixed-size original feeding, mixplex changes between batches, and image quality alterations between batches, there is no job build support for scan mode other than mixed-size original feeding.

The control panel features a colour touchscreen and menu system that is logically organized and offers above-average overall ease of use. All the most com-monly used features are programmable from the main tab including duplex, paper source, colour, reduction, enlargement, and finishing.
The unit’s on-screen QWERTY keyboard features medium-sized, well-spaced keys that are clearly separated from each other. The keyboard also features dedicated “@” and “.” keys for use in email addresses on the main screen. Both carbon copy and blind carbon copy features are supported. Storing extensions and domains as one-touch keys is not supported.
All available control panel functions are accessible via the Services Home hard key, which includes two screens. The device also features a side panel, available regardless of which menu a user is in, that includes Language, Screen Brightness, Setup, Calibration, Activity Report, Fax Receiving Mode, and Print Mode selections. Easy UI Solution 2.0 enables administrators to create a custom menu with up to 32 service buttons for frequently used workflows.

WORKSTATION EXPERIENCE 7.5
PCL 5/6 is the standard driver with PostScript 3 as an option. Drivers are nearly identical in appearance.
Incompatible settings are not selectable, and the user will be prompted to correct the settings to avoid mistakes. Drivers are bidirectional and can automatically detect paper size and any accessories installed, such as the finisher.
Though no feedback information is provided directly from the print drivers other than media size, a link to the web utility’s consumables information is available after pressing the Status button
Users can store commonly-used jobs via an unlimited number of Saved Settings, but settings cannot be saved from any tab.
No support for job review. Drivers display icons next to selections like paper and duplexing.
Secure Print jobs can be viewed via the Job Status button on the panel, and while five clicks are needed to release a secure print job in default settings, the process is still intuitive overall.
Secure Print jobs do not require a PIN to be deleted from the queue, and username is visible in the secure queue before the user authenticates. However, this can be customized from within queue.
With the exception of quantity, secure print settings cannot be changed prior to release of the job.
The drivers feature six tabs (Paper/Output, Image Options, Colour Options, Layout/ Watermark, Advanced, and Fax), and the most commonly used selections for a typical print job are available on the first tab (Paper/Output). These include job type, paper type, duplex, colour, output method, saved settings, and finishing.

Selections for quantity and collate are programmable from the Advanced tab, though being programmable from the main tab would be ideal. The Advanced tab also features selections for offsetting.
Via Colour Options, the lightness, contrast, and sat-uration of the image can be adjusted in fine incre-ments. Additional image quality adjustments include cyan to red, magenta to green, and yellow to blue.

SUPPORTING TEST DATA
Test Environment: This product was tested in Buyers Lab’s environmentally controlled US test lab, which rep-licates typical office conditions.
Test Equipment: Buyers Lab’s dedicated test network, consisting of Windows 2008 and Microsoft Exchange serv-ers, Windows 7 workstations, 10/100/1000BaseTX network switches and CAT6 cabling.
Test Duration: A single product is tested for two months, five weeks of which consists of a durability test during which the product is run at its manufacturer-rated maximum monthly duty cycle, with 25 percent of the test vol-ume comprised of copy jobs and 75 percent comprised of print jobs. Buyers Lab’s daily test usage is designed to replicate real-world use over an eight-hour workday, and as such includes a mix of various-size documents, sim-plex and duplex modes, and a mix of short, moderate and long run lengths, and on/off cycles, throughout the day. The durability evaluation also includes testing of the document feeder/scanner in simplex and duplex modes for an additional 10 percent of the monthly maximum volume, evenly divided over the course of the test.
Tested Configuration: Fuji Xerox DocuCentre-V C2263 base unit.
Test Procedures: Buyers Lab’s lab testing includes both Buyers Lab proprietary and industry-standard test procedures and documents. In addition to a visual image quality evaluation, optical density of primary colour (CMYK) solid fill output is measured using a densitometer, and colour gamut and consistency are evaluated using a colour spectrophotometer. The reliability test is conducted using Georgia Pacific and Boise paper in the US, and UPM, Data Copy and Mondi paper in the UK. In both labs, 30 percent of the paper is recycled. The media used for image quality testing is Georgia Pacific Printing Paper (24 lb., 96 brightness) in the US and UPM Future ImageTech 100gsm in the UK.
Competitive Group: The analysis in this report compares the tested device to a group of all other currently avail-able like models (e.g., colour vs. colour, copier-based vs. copier-based) in the same speed range (5 ppm up and down from the speed of the tested device) with support for the same media size. For test performance categories, the results are compared with those of currently available tested models in the group, whereas for feature set and pricing, the comparison is made against all currently available models in the group, whether tested or not. The pricing analysis is for devices comparably configured with accessories and the most common options.
Note: This report is based on Buyers Lab testing one representative test sample at a specific point in time. Buyers Lab is not responsible for differences in performance that may be the result of lot-to-lot variation, changes in pro-duction and machine modifications implemented by the manufacturer, service issues or any other reason beyond Buyers Lab’s control. Test unit serial #: 651532.
