Alternative Policy Scenario:The Alternative Scenario developed
assesses the impact on the global energy future if counpolicies that they are presently considering or might reasonto implement up to 2030. Key measures include efforts toefficiency and to increase the use of renewables.
In the Alternative Scenario, hydroelectric generation in 2030higher than the 13% projected in the Reference Scenario. Thydro renewables increase much more, from an aggregate 6Reference Scenario to 9% in the Alternative Scenario. The takes place in OECD Europe, driven by the European Unions strenewables. Electricity generation using non-hydro renewabtimes higher in 2030 in the Alternative Scenario than in 2003third higher than in the Reference Scenario.

Definitions
Renewables include the following categories:
Combustible Renewables and Waste* (CRW):
Solid Biomass: Covers organic, non-fossil material of biologmay be used as fuel for heat production or electricity gene
Wood, Wood Waste, Other Solid Waste: Covers purposcrops (poplar, willow etc.), a multitude of woody materials industrial process (wood/paper industry in particular) or pby forestry and agriculture (firewood, wood chips, bark, sachips, black liquor etc.) as well as wastes such as straw, rice poultry litter, crushed grape dregs etc.
Charcoal: Covers the solid residue of the destructive pyrolysis of wood and other vegetal material.
Biogas: Gases composed principally of methane and produced by anaerobic digestion of biomass and combuheat and/or power.
Liquid Biofuels: Bio-based liquid fuel from biomass transfoused in transportation applications.
Municipal Waste (renewables)*: Municipal waste energy c
produced by the residential, commercial and public servincinerated in specific installations to produce heat anrenewable energy portion is defined by the energy valubiodegradable material.
Hydro Power: Potential and kinetic energy of water convertedin hydroelectric plants. It includes large as well as small hydro, size of the plants.
Geothermal Energy: Energy available as heat emitted from wcrust, usually in the form of hot water or steam. It is exploitedfor electricity generation after transformation or directly as heating, agriculture, etc.
