In liver cells, over 600 separate reactions occur routinely. ATP is needed to produce energy from food; the energy produced by ATP is used to perform these reactions. 2. The main advantage of having organelles is that these organelles perform one specific function. In the example of Mitochondria, this organelle is a small package of enzymes usually found within the matrix of the organelle or the “ruffles” that it has. Its function is to convert food to energy(ATP). 3. An oxidation reduction reaction is driven by an input of energy. Molecules are reduced when the number of electrons they contain is increased by the addition of hydrogen or loss of oxygen. It can be summarized as X(positive) + Electron→ X. An example of a reduction process is the formation of large complex molecules from small ones. 4. The three steps in aerobic respiration is glycolysis, krebs cycle, and the electron transport system. In glycolysis, glucose breaks down into 2 molecules of pyruvic acid. In krebs cycle, the pyruvic acid is broken down into CO2 in the mitochondria. In the electron transport system, electrons are transferred from the hydrogen molecules to complete and mass produce ATP.
