Faith Formation for ALL
Faith Formation at Saint Thomas the Apostle really is for all. When I step back to consider the breadth of opportunities we offer for Faith Formation, I find myself grateful for all who make them happen, and I hope our parishioners are aware of what’s available:
Seeds is a ministry for children ages three to five that meets during the 9:00 Mass on Sunday morning. Children gather with adult leaders to learn about Jesus using that week’s Gospel enhanced by prayer, storytelling, music and creative activities in a way that is relevant to their world.
Liturgy of the Word with Children happens during the 9 and 11 Masses twice each month. Children six and older engage the weekly Scripture readings and prayers in an age-appropriate manner and later rejoin their parents in the church for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Faith Formation for Children and Youth is held on Wednesday evenings along with a simple meal and prayer service. Our kids from kindergarten through eighth grade learn about our Catholic Christian faith and reflect on its importance in their lives.
Sacramental Preparation happens in lots of ways, including:
· Baptism Preparation is a single session offered once each month for parents preparing for the Baptism of a child.
· First Reconciliation Preparation (for children in second grade and older) happens mostly on Wednesday evenings during the fall of the year, with the Sacrament being celebrated in December.
· First Communion Preparation (for children in second grade and older) happens mostly on Wednesday evenings during the winter of the year, with the Sacrament being celebrated in May.
· Confirmation Preparation (for youth in ninth grade and older) happens mostly on Sunday evenings with the Sacrament being celebrated in February. We seek to not only pass on the content of our faith, but also to form disciples in community.
· Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults Preparation is for adults seeking to be initiated into the Catholic Church (Baptism and/or Communion and/or Confirmation). This group usually meets on Wednesday evenings, with the process being adapted to the needs of the individuals.
· Marriage Preparation includes some preparation that happens at Saint Thomas the Apostle and some outside the parish, on an individual schedule that meets the needs of each couple.
Faith Formation for Adults opportunities are offered mostly on Wednesday mornings and Wednesday evenings (along with a simple meal and prayer service). Parents of children participating in Faith Formation, along with other adults, are invited to reflect on questions of faith that come with maturity. While adults are encouraged to come each week, if your schedule does not permit weekly attendance, come when you are able. This year, especially, each of our offerings for adults is of limited duration and invites personal reflection on our lived experience of faith.
Youth Ministry offers social and service opportunities designed to help our youth grow in faith and in Christian community. We are presently seeking to hire a part-time youth minister. If you know of a suitable candidate, please contact us.
Once again, I’ll say, The breadth and depth of opportunities for Faith Formation at Saint Thomas the Apostle is extraordinary! Even the list above is not complete. If you’re not participating, you’re really missing out.
If you’d like know more, talk with our staff after Masses this weekend, check out our website: www.stthomasmpls.org or give us a call at the parish office: (612) 922-0041

QUESTION THE WEEK
“Whoever does not carry his own cross and come a!er
me cannot be my disciple.”
- Luke 14: 27
The Lutheran theologian and Holocaust vic!m, Dietrich
Bonhoeffer, wrote about what he called the “cost of
discipleship.” Being a follower of Jesus, being a disci-
ple, demands all of me and calls me to embrace the
crosses that come my way. What has been my “cost of
discipleship,” the cross that I must embrace in order to
fully and completely follow Jesus?

Grief Support Fall Series
September 26-December 12
Every Thursday from 6:30-8pm
St Joan of Arc Parish Center
Dear Parishioners,
There was so much excitement and energy seeing both new and familiar faces back at school this week!
Our students and faculty were thrilled to see the new bathrooms, water fountains and other
improvements made possible by the parishioners of STA.
Our school theme this year is "Helping Others Succeed". We wanted to take this opportunity to thank
YOU for all you do in helping our children thrive in such a caring and Chris#an environment.
Our opening school Mass is next Wednesday, September 11 at 9:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle.
Parishioners are always welcome to join us for school liturgies, special events and school day tours.
Our teachers and I will be at the hospitality table this weekend, if you'd like to take a minute to
introduce yourself. We look forward to mee#ng and thanking you in person for your generosity,
prayers and support of Carondelet Catholic School.
Sincerely, Mary Yamoah
